- We head out to check our recreational stone crab traps for the new season! Crab season opened October 15, 2020 and Sara and I take our friends Jocelyn and James out for their first crab experience! After hauling and rebaiting them all Sara shows us how to cook them and then we eat them! We wound up with 32 claws for the pull!

When we cook our fresh crab up here in the north west, I season my water with salt, garlic, and even with that some lemon and herbs really make the crab taste good without dip. Just a suggestion.

I love the Keys life style. I was going to move there from Colorado in 85' but met my now wife of 34 years and we eventually moved to Hampton, VA. Lots of Blue Crabs but not Stone Crabs. Sometimes I can get Johnna Cab Claws at the fish market, but Stones are not brought in.

Hek yes nice family yummy crabs
Get some shrimp and crab boil the one's that have bags of season in them. Its seasons better if you open the bag and dump them in. Some don't like to because they say its messy, but taste is more important. Add plenty of salt and you will have the best cajun crab ever. Thats the way we do out blue crab. You will be a crab fan cooked that way. Some people like it dipped in creel seasoning, its like a catsup and horse radish. Try it cajun style, gives em great flavor.

Nick, another great bait to use for the crabtraps is pig's feet. If you don't have access to all the free carcasses you can carry then go to your local grocer or butcher and order a case of pigs feet and they will last a lot longer than fish carcass as well because they're really tough skin but stone crabs LOOOOOOVE pig's feet

Love the videos .. You should get some unique zip ties and use those to keep the top from opening.. This way you can really tell if someone poached the trap or the top just came open when being deployed..

Technically they say you take one take em both gives them a better chance at surviving when the crab has no claws it knows and just buried it self and grows it’s arms when it has on it thinks it’s bad ass still and it fights and loses cause it can’t fight with one soooo idk if you know that but that’s what I heard I still love yalll n the ch and the life lol
I like your stone crab shell cracker, it would be great for red rock crabs here in Washington State.
Put a tyrap around the opening, it takes a minute longer,but that way you know for sure if someone fooled with your traps.I guess 10 claws.

Crazy question, but why wouldn’t you throw the claws in a bucket or a cooler rather than under the gas lines of the engine?
They go in a bucket at the end, we just have so many buckets full of bait it’s one more thing to trip over in the back of the boat so easy to throw them by the engine there in the cool water. Never had anything get on them, from the hydraulic steering lines and fuel line by the engine

That part of the reason for the increased claw size is because the feeder claw is typically smaller and with it the crab can feed better and grow. The two claw science and burying in the mud story is a lie paid for by the industry.
