I love my CTY2, even after seeing all these newer ebikes coming out I still feel like I picked the perfect ebike. It's just such a shame they stagnated and there's nobody to carry the torch, they could've made some awesome new stuff had they kept going in the right direction. R.I.P. James.
What a shame, i hate to see a company like this go out of business. Hopefully, someone might buy up the company's assets along with the brand and keep it going.
Well see
15k miles on mine and still going strong, one of the best decisions I've made financially with the money I saved versus owning a car. Sad to see them go but the path was laid for this with James passing as he was the sole proprietor for Onyx.
RIP James, mad respect, ONYX is a symbol of the glory days of ebikes. one of the pioneers of powerfull bikes. always Wish i backed the kick starter and got that early bird price. I think you're right, they might be kinda rare, collector bikes. It was one of the first cool ebikes. its got that iconic instantly recognizable design. And the rattling wood cover they never seemed to fix.
Good Video! I gave my Onyx to a relative a couple of years ago. BTW... decades ago, I kinduv accidentally burned out at a light because there was loose gravel in the road and a cop pulled me over and said he could have given me a ticket for "Exhibition of Power" as the official state regulated statute.
Everyone in Fresno runs red lights. It’s so bad here that whenever I meet someone who just moved here I tell them to look both ways when the light turns green or they’ll get t-boned.
seriously i don't take off from lights anymore. i used to use them as trees like i'm at the dragstrip and test my reaction time but cant do that anymore
CTY2 🙋🏻♂️ my daily commute when it is not raining. From Jensen to Ashlan/99, I might be the only guy in Fresno with the CTY2😂
I'm gonna miss these guys! Thanks for the controller support when I was still adjusting it!
Hey bro! You know what I just watched this video. I had a Onyx fully modded out. I just sold the bike in March. I found out James passed away which is sad. But I hope everyone that purchased bikes got to get they orders. I really loved my Onyx RCR 1.5 I bought my bike Jan of 2022 but had to get rid of it for financial reasons. The guy I sold it to told me but told me a couple of days later after I sold him the bike. I think if I would have knew that the company was closed I wouldn't have sold it at this time. I would have held it for the same reason you spoke about the bike would have been rare. I had just put a 72450 fardriver in it with hubsinks put statorade in the stock 3000W motor. Which made the bike go 70+mph. Just bought a new custom Swingarm from AL Bows. Had Jason from C.A. hook me up a new battery cover and a new kit that goes along the side. The same one he had on his bike that kit that makes the Onyx RCR look more motorcycle-ish,I had the Powerful 50AH "THIA" battery in the bike from Vic. It's simular to the 60AH battery in the Aniioki A8 Pro Max battery. Had the underglow light kit on it. Tapia Sound did my custom seat. Boy did I like that bike. I wasn't riding much since I had it due to medical issues. So my finances was kind of in the dumps! But if I knew that James had passed away and the company was nomore I sure would have made some type of other moves. I definitely wouldn't had sold that bike at this time. I sure wish I would have known. But it's cool the guy that bought the bike rides alot he do the group rides which he's getting a lot of enjoyment out of it. So I'm not mad! We keep in contact too he's a solid dude from what I know. I just wanted to share a Lil content on my Onyx RCR experience. It's so sad that James passed on. It would really be cool if some kind of way they would be able to keep the Co up and running. But life happens at unexpected times. Maybe the guys at Onyx can get things together with the Co and make more strong bikes! Peace! ✌️
I've started doing the in and out of the garage process myself.
That's wired because Onyx made nice bikes, a future classic, good design from the early days of PEV
Have a CTY2. Going to maintain it was well as possible so I can keep riding it for years
If if you still ride your atlas ; stop by Fresno Schwinn and ask about there romello strip !! A very durable piece of equipment that u can place between your inner tube and tire to prevent punctures !!! $15 dollars for a strip is enough to cover all four tires without having to give up the comfort that the pneumatic tires give you!!! Yes it is more than a tight fit !! Make sure to put a piece of painters tape at the end of the strip before you put the inner tube in !! I “cut” 2 or my tubes bc I assumed that the strip sliced it open and the other two I unintentionally put holes into because I pinched the innertube in between the two piece rim!!
Oh shoot that's some wild as purchased, but I had no idea I remember back when onyx was selling for $899 and up, Also is that a dainese jacket ? 😂
yes thats the name lol vr46 jacket
I love my RCR. Havent had a single with it or the company.
Not surprised. Didn't they have a really short warranty? Like 30 days?
Yeah that was a joke. And that was starting from the day of delivery.
Hey man, if you want your bike to read almost exactly perfect to speed, go In the menu. After that go to gear ratio (GR) and then set it to 7.5.
For the xxx?
@@MrCentralDriver yep, idk what it does but it works pretty damn well lol
i have heard the talaria boys were trying out a 72 v system , but they're have issues so .. maybe hit up powerful lithium ?
powerful lithium doesn't do controllers only batteries
Yeh, it's a shame about James and Onyx going out of business. I remember when they gave Dillon Thompson a free onyx till it fell to bits around Dillon 😅😂 he broke everything
Lol I saw that. Making weird noises. Didn't no it fully broke though
He was why I didn’t get one, they seemed powerful with decent battery life . But the excess issues he had scared me away from them.
I was looking at the LZR, no one else makes an electric dirt jumper.
The camera was fine the entire time did not see no spots really maybe just one spot dot, but it was low so was just fine.
This is news I am just now hearing about.. I've owned the original Onyx RCR since the beginning, with at least 4500 miles on it. Stock 23ah battery and for around 4.5 years, I have been wanting to save up to get the 41ah battery, but now I won't get that chance for a while :(
Powerful lithium has batteries for you.
And Chi too, I believe.
power lithium has batterys and with discounts code: mrcentraldriver
chi batteries got rid of its affiliate program so no more discounts
@@MrCentralDriver oo thank you! Really kind of you :3
@@MrCentralDriver Yeah, I think only employees have codes now. I know "JOE" for a discount that basically cancels out the sales tax.
I would not recommend you shortening, your handle bars, long handle bars, on dirt bikes save the bike when it get knocked over.
Well I'm screwed. I just bought the Ouxi V8 2.0.
What bike are u riding in the vid
Looks like a talaria xxx
I ordered an ebike 4 months ago and still havent recieved it
am i not going to be getting it whatsoever?
onyx is out of business. no you wont
@@MrCentralDriver so did i just waste my money and time
@@anddrrooI had the same issue. Trying to get my card to cancel the charge
Everything happens for a reason that I can assure you what comes around goes around
Hello dear friend keep hold the peace 😅😊
Hello dear friend mine rains 😅😊
💯
the goat
If they are out of business how come the website is still running; was able to add a bike to the cart and stopped when it asked for my payment.
Anyway, here's what happened:

Place an order and see lol
@@MrCentralDriveri placed an order 4 months ago on december 23rd
i havent been able to get a hold on anyone i didnt know he died
will i even be getting my bike or was i just scammed out of my wallet?
Embolism at 37. Not to sound crass, but people who took the jabs without coercion were kind of asking for it. The side effects were known from the beginning. Anyone with an ounce of curiosity or due diligence knew about it.
You need a E-RIDE PRO SS . DO YOU EXPECT TO GET ONE ???😊
I dont think so
i never liked onyx .
i thought had poor quality assurance , they had that the "cool kids bike " vibe like super 73, ..which i also freakin hate . aside from the silly moped/retro looks .73, and onyx weren't any more special than the bike supplied the the E-STARPZ company (i.e. chinese stealth bombers etc. ) in fact i LIKE the bikes from ESTRAPZ MORE than any superseventonyx crap bikes .. lol
They stole $5000 from me. I paid for a rcr in November and never got it. Now they are ghosting me and won't give me my money back.
Nobody is running the company. You need to contact your bank and cancel it
Yea I'm going to call the bank Monday but I doubt they will give me my money back.
Onyx is a good ebike
I don't understand why everyone hates on certain bikes because they claim one speed and doesn't get to that speed. If your going to hate on bike companies for that then you have to hate on everyone of the companies. There are only a few that do what they say. But I never like the onyx either. Just looked like a Targa moped I owned in the early 80s and all they did was put an electric motor on them. And they road like a brick. Not comfortable at all.
Riding in the oil line aka the middle of the road when raining is not the best place to be. That could be a great way to be riding sideways down the road on your side.
the first week of rain yeah but its been raining for days here. the day before this everything was flooded.
Well, there are a lot of options out there that are significantly cheaper, so honestly it only makes sense…
Mr. E... Mystery?
Any third party verification about this out there?
go to the group pages. i posted in the video the statement the new owner made
the extras tho 🤣
Some bad stuff happening in the Ebike world.😒Also be on the lookout for the stolen Biktrix Ebikes. ($500K worth of ebikes stolen shipment gone😔).
I want to sell mine less then 200 miles on it.
How much?
🥺
the RCR has beem a dream bike for a while it sucks that the company went under
There’s better bikes now
@@slimdunkin117 I like the styling and the performance there’s not a lot that can match what I’m looking for
I was never a fan of how their bikes looked...ever! I built a bomber and that thing costed less and a ton faster and little to no maintenance period...and 65mph.
most people don't no how to build a bike though. and most people want a warranty. but also onyx changed the warranty to 30days which was a horrible idea.
@MrCentralDriver I only built it to save on shipping.., it was also since I had other bikes it wasn't that hard to do & they do come put together just heavy AF around 200lbs. I had a warranty also from the manufacturer over 2 yrs they sent me anything I may need. Not all of them are the cool.
Sux Onyx is gone! I like the Talaria xxx the most out of all the bikes you have.
called that forever ago. they just too pricey, people buying surrons and talarias
Damn wonder how this shake things up. I do own a CTY2.
Getting parts will be sourcing yourself
How would one get parts for the cty2 then?
So much for life time limited warranty
Onyx always rubbed me the wrong way too. When they first came out they were selling them as “mopeds” that anyone could safely get on and ride (they’re really low powered motorcycles that just have pedals to get around regulations in some states). Most of their advertisements pictured people on their bikes who weren’t even wearing helmets. Anyway I wanted one… if they would give it blinkers and a taillight people could actually see so it would be safer. Their response was so unprofessional. At one point they even told me I just didn’t know anything about mopeds and maybe I should stick to bicycles. I had been riding actual mopeds from the 70s for decades and knew them very well. I even told them I knew their bike was a “tribute” to a Puch Magnum. They actually went as far as to send me pictures of vintage mopeds with no blinkers. When I pointed out that all those bikes CAME with blinkers from the factory and people just removed them or they broke over the years they got mad and just stopped responding to me. Why would a company fight so hard to not make their product safer? Those things should be standard equipment. Eventually they came out and said if you want blinkers you could order them from Treatland and install them yourself but they were marketing the product as something anyone could get on and ride. So make it a finished product. I shouldn’t have to spend more money and work on it myself before it’s ready. I was kind of shocked at how unprofessional they were. Especially since I told them I wanted to buy one.
Im not surprised at all, with so many newer and cheaper options, it was bound to happen. The ebike market is starting to become saturated. You have to have something really special and reasonably priced to survive in the market
Actually, Onyx's CTY2 and RCR were and still are the cheapest ebikes that can go 50+MPH and keep up with traffic. I've seen the CTY2 go on sale as low as $2500 which is dirt cheap for what you get. I think they just fell off the radar by lack of marketing and lack of new products.
@@DesuVR ohhh okay I thought they were going for almost 4k. I wasn't taking sales prices into consideration
Very woke company that is extremely spiteful. I had a very bad experience with them and they lied about delivering the bike when it wasn’t delivered and they also lied about specs on their mountain bike. No surprise they’re out of business. That company sucked.
onyx is such an L company they treating you like that for stuff thats THIER FAULT i would never buy from that company
Such an L comment.
honestly they were overrated and overpriced.
i like the bikes. just to many quality control issues when i was involved in the community and had 1. mine was all outta wack with alignment and rattles
No!!!!
Doing a charge back is kinda a dick move bro
No it isn't, if a company won't fix the problem then what do they expect. So the customer should be out thousands of dollars and have a bike that doesn't work?
Apparently some do not pay attention very well . Clearly damaged to needing returned . They temporarily went out of business and even ended up taking months to finally respond . Duh, obviously your going to do a chargeback . They finally respond and he says will do what it takes to now fix the issue . They decided to act like a little kid in response . Watch the (whole) video before silly comments 😅
