That ending though. Most suspense I've seen in an AoE2 game.
No kidding, after the cannon galleon fired, got an add. Worst timing ever.
The King has 75HP and wouldn't die to a 40 or 50 dmg cannonball though. Would've automatically ran away when it got hit too.

iirc projectiles do no damage if the unit firing it dies before the projectile reaches the highest point in its flight
@SilverNinetales That happens with trebuchets, cannonballs from any unit do make damage

Wiki reports that Cannon Galleons have 50% accuracy and deal 35 damage. They receive +15 damage against infantry, however, Kings are not infantry. They are "None".

IDEAS FOR MAP IMPROVEMENT: i think this map can be improved if the shoreline is made with a bit more uneaven line and with more places to tuck away and hide. also, make the forest start 1-2- tiles more inland to lessen the impact of first fire ships.
make map have small clearings in the forest, like patchwork, in which the players can chop into.

Actually Fish and Fishes are both correct. One is a counting word. Outside of Counting it's fish.
a quick search on google reveals that experts in the field often use fishes :D
"fiishes" is plural for different KINDS of fishes.

Interesting strats in this scenario. If you rush military (like green),you can wipe most players but then risk weak eco for the final player or two. If you go full eco, then you are 100% relying on luck to not be sniped in the first 20-25 mins in the game (yellow) but afterwards, you can rock it. I imagine more and more players will go military strat (green) in the future cause relying on luck only worked for 1 of the original 7 players in this match. Really fun game.
Also should be noted that as soon as someone hits feudal you don´t put the king into the transport anymore. They mostly did and lost to the navy.
True. It was hilarious watching the other players freak out as those ships went down. lol
And it was mostly fire ships. You could have put the king on land until you hit feudal and then built a tower to protect him. Some of them also had tcs where they could have put the king as soon as they built it.
I guess if the green one did invest something into his economy (like a TC on the mainland) and built constant vills (rule #1 in AoE), then yellow wouldn't had a chance at all.
Going to Feudal as fast as possible also secures your fishing ships and destroy the ships from your enemies. So even if you can't snipe a king you are pretty far ahead in the economy.
Yes green mostly went into millitary which was outrun by yellows better economy. Also he could have had attacked yellows island houses.

This game shows how a nothing map can be exciting in the first 15 minutes. Grim did all the work, Spice was lucky to be last, and quick witted enough to buy stone and get a castle up. Grim's throw was that he didn't bother to TC on land, overconfident in knocking out the other 5 players....All i could hear was the sound track from Jaws....awesome nothing game. No changes...anyone could have tried Grims tactic, it made it exciting, and resulted in an epic underdog win...GG on both sides...entertaining.
If the map were set in Australia, the lakes would flush in the opposite direction.
How did the game last 49 minutes when practically all players were defeated in 21 minutes
The last survivors had time to put up better defenses and thus weren't sniped out so easily...

It is a bug in AoE that if a unit is dead it's already fired projectile will do no damage, so even if the cannon galley's cannonball hit the king since the cannon galley was dead no damage. It's the same bug where trebuchets do no damage if they unpack before the projectile hits target.
Attacks don't do damage if they're dead, just like japanese trebs repacking before impact. Thanks Spiritofthelaw.
I'm so glad you post these to youtube thanks t90 :D. Also I think building TC on your starting island to get the market sell first is actually the best strat also your king will be safe as well

i don't get the hate towards spice. he's obviously a novice player who in my opinion did well to adapt to the situation. ofc it's easy to criticise with spectator's view and high level gameplay in mind, but apart from missing a few things he clearly had a plan and executed it decently.
i also have the feeling that grim stream sniped. he was clearly looking for that king and not trying to just kill the castle with his superior range on those last two canon galleons, whereas spice clearly did not snipe considering he completely missed his king standing outside his castle.
porfirij 100% stream sniper, t90 even called it 5 seconds before he did it "we'll know he's sniping if he goes right around and attacks from the right" which is exactly what happened. I guess he didn't call it out to keep things civil
Yea, Grim is a stream sniper from what I saw.
I don't think he was stream sniping.
First, the castle went almost down, and the king spawned
second, the castle has no flag, so the king remained spawned, and not garrisoned
Third, he noticed through multiple times with vision (you can see the fog of war where he saw the king) that he knew where the king was and knew that Spice had forgotten about him.
I think it's perhaps suspicious? Yes. But not guaranteed or proof. Earlier he clearly saw the king standing there like a derp.
Spice won no matter what, so they can say what they want. There wasn't any streamsniping though because he saw the king back when he lost his fleet to the castle at the last second. Even T90 pointed this out.
I think he saw the king in the first attack, when the king popped out.
Spice king is now my dodgeball idol! if You Can Dodge A Cannonball You Can Dodge A Ball, the 5 D's is strong with this one
Every time I see a Player make the perfect move in a certain situation (e.g. The castle of yellow against the attack) against a big bully, just to then almost fuck it up by forgetting to switch the bully to enemy, a small part of me dies 11
i think this map with a bounty for killing kings would be insane, something like 200 of each resource multiplied by the age you're in would be sick :D
Credit where it's due. The comment about 2 slow maps = fast game was based off of Dux's comment in game where he said "I can't believe combining 2 slow maps made for such a fast game" @ 25:04 of the first video.

We need a global warming version where the water is gradually rising throughout the game. The map needs hills and valleys. Controlling the high ground could prove critical to victory.

Kings weren't the only thing Grim sniped, well deserved ending for a sweaty cheater. Props to Spice for keeping it together and pulling a great comeback when odds were clearly against him.

TC starting Island. Fish for a fast Fuedal. Market, Galleys, and Scouts for a Fuedal victory.
If you skip scouts, you can try to fast castle and knight rush quickly.
These settings beg for early aggression and greatly reward the first person to sell. That player should have the tech advantage to rip through all the coastal pilgrims, then it's taking kings in TC on main island.

You really have just one strat for this map - You make a TC on the island, advance to Feudal fast, build a market, get gold and create a couple of regular galleys, and go for the kings, or if that is not possible, go for the woodcutters.

Their unique tech Kataparuto lets them pack before the shot lands if it is far enough away

I think it's a good idea to build your TC on the starting island, dock, and build fishing ships. That way, you get to the feudal age first, build a market, and get the best prices.
Spice's luck stat too stronk, plz nerf. Just joking, when he actually started to create military, he played fairly well for a beginner and took advantage of Grim's mistakes. But man, he was lucky to have been targeted last. Seeing all the players drop dead in like the first 20 minutes except me would have made me completely lose it and panic way before needing to rush a castle had I been in his shoes. 11

What if whenever a female and a male villager chop the same tree, and the town-center creates a new villager, the male and female villager produce a fetus that travels underneath the ground towards the TC and gets born there?
I think we might be on to something here.
There are some weird assumptions about weapons vs unit class in some games. Anti armor weapons have a lower attack rating vs infantry for instance. If reloading and resupplying were necessary it would make sense to be even more careful about what you attack with what, but it doesn't make sense to ever take more than one hit from a large rock to kill one foot unit. Unless it's a fantasy sci-fi game that has unrealistically powerful units or armor.

Grim didn't need to stream snipe to know about the king. He was getting close enough to the castle to notice it wasn't garrisoned. He could've researched treason at that point.

I'm not sure about the missing part, but the king would have survived regardless of whether or not the cannonball hit him... because in AoE II damage of a projectile is calculated AFTER it lands, not before. Meaning that when he deleted his cannon galleon, the attack became 0.
Halfway through and one player killed everyone but one. That was a ride.

followed up the brolick, and overwhelming first pilgrims nothing game with such a potshot/ weakling game. yellow came to his senses eventually

This map has been fun to watch but honestly the feudal navy rush is too OP here.
This map makes me think of the "France" custom map, but with only trees.

I think if the cannon galleon dies before the cannonball lands, it deals 0 damage. I've had that happen to me with trebuchets anyway.

Does the cannonball act as treb projectile? The jappanese treb can shoot and pack before impact and then it does one damage? And because the cannon galeon died before impact then the projectile carried information of 0 damage?
the reason why the water inland is flowing the same direction as the sea is because the island is sitting on top of pillars like this TTTTTTT an the water flows under it haha
