    In this video I show you what it feels like to touch dark matter! Then I show you what happens if you were to fall into dark matter. Luckily I have a very massive piece of dark matter that somehow doesn't fall to the earth but is conveniently floating near me waiting for me to show you its properties. Then I talk about what dark matter actually is and what it could be made of.

    • @drsquash2003
      @drsquash2003 Před 5 lety +13

      It seems more likely that the "it" is a property of something we actually know exists, but do not fully understand. I know I am not a physicist, but I am familiar with the past. And most often in the past when there were things that were sufficient to explain an observation, they explanation was not actually true (i.e. geocentric orbit, blood letting, spontaneous generation, ect...)
      I simply am skeptical that what we are calling dark matter, is A) Any actual manifestation of what we general understand to be matter. And B) An independent force in and of itself.
      Considering we haven't successfully married our two most prominent theories in physics (general relativity and quantum physics), I predict that we will eventually come to understand the observed effect we are labeling dark matter, as simply a side effect of a currently mostly understood force in the universe.
      Long winded I know, but I hope that makes my point more clear

      @trucid2 Před 5 lety

      @@TheActionLab MOND-like alternatives have not been ruled out either. Those theories have fewer degrees of freedom than just sprinkling dark matter around a galaxy. Occam's razor suggests a likely winner.

    • @toosavageforaname2767
      @toosavageforaname2767 Před 5 lety +2

      Maybe but we can clearly see the effects of dark matter. For example the speed of rotation of galaxies is much faster than what the gravity of normal matter(which we can see and understand) would allow. The galaxy would just rip apart at that speed. So there is something within the galaxy that contributes to a major part of the mass of the galaxy and allows that rotation speed. This was observed in many galaxies. This was actually how it was discovered. It's responsible for 85% of all the gravity in the universe. We don't know anything about it's nature or properties. We just see its effects and we just know it's there. The name dark matter makes it seem we know that it is. It doesn't interact with light like normal matter so it's really hard to detect it. But as usual there are theories out there. Some say it's an unknown particle we don't know about and those particles make up a strange form of "matter" which doesn't interact with light.

      @@marcoprins4880 oh my... its been a year I don’t really remember... but i think different people & different textbooks explain things differently. Some explanation could be clearer than others and some terms used may be more revised and less “layman”... my teacher once told me “if u r a science student u gotta speak like a scientist, not a layman” but i guess looking back he might’ve been using layman terms for simpler explanation... wldve enjoyed it more if he included the proper terms.

My theory is that dark matter is still anti matter. That explain why we can't detect it yet because anti matter reacted with matter. It's canceling each other but in the ways of conservative of energy.

In other words, some observations of the universe might not line up with some parts of cosmological theory and some parts of cosmological theory do not line up with observations made of the universe.
