If I seriously can't play more Pandemic after the campaign on our custom board, I'm not buying it, no matter what they say about "value per play". Confirmation would be very nice - can this be played after the campaign ends?

    +The Dice Tower I do wonder how well this would play with my wife and 2 daughters (age 9 and 11).
    They have played Pandemic with us before, but there does have to be a little hand-holding while playing it, so I'm wondering how well it plays with younger kids.

    • @nickcarriere8402
      @nickcarriere8402 Před 8 lety

      +jcb3393 Do you just play the base game or the expansions with your family? Half of the first game of January is regular plain old Pandemic and then minor additions are slowly added month by month. By the time you hit the summer the game is quite different from basic Pandemic with lots of extra rules and things to keep track of. It's good that it builds off of the last game and you have to make sure you fully understand all the new elements from the previous month. I'm only 1/2 way through but I would expect strategy wise that at this point the game would be a bit complex for children, and I can't comment on the end of the game. I would probably recommend it in a year or two.
      Storywise they'll love it, but following all the changes could be a bit difficult.

    • @jcb3393
      @jcb3393 Před 8 lety

      @JesAndersen Před 8 lety

      +Mauricio Monsalves Pino They said in an earlier video it has an intro for players new to pandemic, where you play some games without triggering the legacy part. I'll assume it would be pretty close to regular pandemic.

    • @nickcarriere8402
      @nickcarriere8402 Před 8 lety +1

      +Phil Sheep If you've played regular Pandemic then you'd know that the game will have to end if you run out of the deck, so play time 60-75 minutes is the longest I'd say. Some months introduce a few slight changes, while others add major changes so there's some variation of about 5-10. Choosing where to start, what characters you'll use, what upgrades to take at the end of the game also adds some time. I'd say in total 60-90 minutes per game is reasonable. Today we played one game in 90 minutes but our less session was 2 games in 2 hours.

    • @philsheep9926
      @philsheep9926 Před 8 lety

      +Nick Carriere Thanks for that - we only got 1 game in during our 1st session, but then we had the overhead of running through the rules and getting into it - a couple of our group have only played the original 1-2 times, a few years ago. I'm sure we can rattle through games a lot quicker, now that we are up to speed.

    If you were playing with a group of 3, would you use just three characters, or use 4 characters and rotate who controls the fourth character?

    • @nickcarriere8402
      @nickcarriere8402 Před 8 lety

      +Keith Kaider 4 hands down. 3 might be ok, but 2 is too easy and overpowered. You may want to change up your team often as new surprises surface and experiencing more character combos is really fun. If you find 4 is too much to keep track of you could just scale it back down to 3, but the game will be easier (start with 9 cards instead of 8, less people you have to trade with, you can use the "better" actions more frequently, etc.)

    I was just wondering if you now play a regular game of Pandemic, do you play it on the customized board?

    • @RetroMaticGamer
      @RetroMaticGamer Před 7 lety +1

      Guideaux Pelagos No. The board makes itself basically unplayable during the last month. I mean, you can technically play on it, but what's left of the game would be way too easy and not fun at all. I won't say why (spoilers), but ultimately there's no game to play after December. I personally am severely disappointed in that; having won in just 14 games, it was a great experience for me, but over way too quickly for the money it cost. I won't be supporting Legacy-style games again.

    • @GuideauxPelagos
      @GuideauxPelagos Před 7 lety

      Thanks for the no spoilers part. ;-) I'm ok with getting the official game again if Legacy turns out to be as much fun as it promises to be. I am not sure to play with 2 or 4 players yet... if I'd play with 2 players...would you suggest each person has 2 charcters or would just 2 characters be better? Cheers!

    • @RetroMaticGamer
      @RetroMaticGamer Před 7 lety

      2 characters is actually easier - with more, the player cards get spread out across multiple hands, making the effort to get the right cards to the right players way easier, so cures happen faster. Plus, if you're like me and think the Medic is vital and OP, he gets to do his thing after every other Infection phase. And to hell with "spoiler warnings" - just don't ever give him the Paramilitary Escort perk EVER. A moment WILL arise when you'll thank me for that advice HARDCORE.

    @nikkis.2066 Před 8 lety

    I'm on the fence about buying this :/. I love the Pandemic games (in particular Pandemic:The Cure is fantastic) and I do like the idea behind huge changes that have a play on the game sessions ahead of it. What keeps me from instantly ordering this is being unable to re-use the game. At least that's what I keep hearing and reading. I understand there isn't a "reset" option as the changes kinda cement the personal experience, but being able to open the game later on and play through the fully customized game would be fantastic. perhaps if the price was a little lower It wouldn't be such a sour note that it's a possible one game use (even if it's over multiple sessions)

    • @dvc1190
      @dvc1190 Před 7 lety

      It's a one shot thing. If you can get a game group together to play through it all, I think it's worth it. Throw out any ideas of using the board after the campaign is done. If the experience of one cohesive campaign playthrough (over 18ish sessions) sounds fun, then go for it. If you haven't bought it already, they reprinted not long ago (before the reprint, copies were going for $100+ in the grey market).

    • @cowgba
      @cowgba Před 8 lety

      I'm actually really hoping that season 2 will be a continuation of the same story started in season 1, rather than a new variation on the same kind of story. It would be especially cool if the seasons progress like seasons in a TV show, with the story growing larger in scope as the series goes on.
      I don't know what happens in the game, but I think it would be cool if, for example, Season 1 ends on a cliffhanger where the players discover that a bioterrorist has been engineering the viruses all along. Then Season 2 could pick up right where Season 1 ends, with the players forming a special task force to hunt down and stop the bioterrorists while still fighting the epidemic. Or maybe at the end of Season 1 a deadly new supervirus appears in a certain country or city and then Season 2 could be about trying to cure that supervirus while trying to slow the spread of the quarantine zone. There are a lot of really cool places I would love to see them take the storyline with future seasons.

    To all the people saying it's bad value, how many board games do you own that you've played more than 15-20 times? In my gaming circle it would take years to play a game that many times, and by then there's newer stuff that may outdate the old games. I would think that I've only played the modern staples (7-wonders, Catan, probably not even my person ticket to ride, etc.) that many times. We do own a lot of games however and prefer variety. Say the game is $60 and you split it 4 ways? How many $15 games do you own that you've played 15-20 times? The Resistance is the only thing that comes to mind. Heck you'll get the 20+ hours of a video game or something of that sort.
    Don't think of it as a game. It's a social activity and EXPERIENCE with a good story line. The game is just tacked on. You go out and do any activity with friends and it'll cost you more than $15 a person. (Fancy meal, movies, drinks, museum even).

  • @Hileo20

    I want to make it clear that you can only play through this game ONCE. I won't spoil anything, but you do break/lose components throughout the 12 months and you can't reset when you finish. The game is amazing and well worth it, but you can't play it again without re-buying the game.

    • @ExBruinsFan
      @ExBruinsFan Před 8 lety

      Indeed, you can make a good game with great value, or a sleazy scam with limited replay value. Charging the price of a new copy for those who want to reset the campaign or play with a different group. Take off your "Please rip me off" sign. Suckers.

That being said, they'll be missing out on a lot by jumping into the middle, and I think it's generally best to stick with the same group from start to finish if you can get everyone to commit for that long.

      +Sam Healey You have been known to threaten punches to the throat! That was a good tackle though, your HS Football coach would be proud.

    VERY disingenuous of Sam to claim that this amounts to a good value, when you have to BUY A NEW COPY to reset the campaign. I am pretty sure that you would not have bought this on your own, Sam. You KNOW it is not a good value.

    These Legacy games are an abomination. Using a very cynical marketing scheme. Damn Rob Daviau for unleashing this plague upon the Earth. I will NEVER buy a game with his name on it.

      Sean Thompson
      Well, the thing that makes these games special (in a GOOD way) is that you design them as you play them. That is a great mechanic, IMO. You don't get that once the campaign is done.
      I think we will eventually see similar games WITH the ability to reset the campaign.
      For now, Daviau has chosen to force a re-purchase to do so. He actually had the nerve to say on BGG that the 'buy another copy' effect wasn't even THOUGHT OF while the game was being developed.

    I wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole. Absolute cash grab.
    60.00 for a disposable board game?
    Pass.

    Nice that this one can be 2 player, much broader opportunity for full play through than Risk:Legacy. Thanks for asking that question.
