    A LOT of where your sidebar sits will be determined by grip, hand size and the shape of the riser, especially the shelf.
    One of my bows needs a LOT of sidebar to “balance” out, others are pretty much straight back.
    Don’t assume that because your last bow had a certain position that worked, that same setup will work on your new bow.
    The target bow was rocking back on the shot…add front weight, or remove rear weight, or rotate back bar down.

  • @ryanderlago
    @ryanderlago Před 6 měsíci +3

    Thanks for all the content,, today’s “balancing the bow” info is so often overlooked and bars are bolted on often as a formality rather than a tool.
    Personally, bow balance isn’t something I paid much attention to until the past 3 years. For me, front bars are useless with back bars making an incredible difference.
    I hunt 60 yards and in and cannot justify having a front bar as a properly tuned back bar alone keeps me steady and accurate to 60.
    Too many videos are focused on “do you need a back bar” whereas in my experience “do you need a front bar”?
    Thx again for everything you do here!🙏

  • @sinepari9160
    @sinepari9160 Před 6 měsíci +2

    I use a 12''/10'' but also add a limb saver s-coil passthrough type on ends for the addition of weights. Adds about 2'' of length and vibe kill. Final is 15.5 front and 12'' rear, the most I'd want to carry into the field. The Quattro Vulcan stabs supposedly have internal vibe control. Whether that is BS or not, I don't know, but it's perfectly leveled at the draw and completely dead in hand. I also always shoot with my quiver on, which takes a bit more rear bar bias.

    May be an unpopular pick because it is a China bow, but the Sanlida Dragon 10 has very impressive specs at a 450 dollar bare bow price. It is marketed as their flagship hunting bow and Sanlida is a legit archery company that does higher end target bows. After walking a mile or two, i noticed the bars the most. (Pretty drastically if i may say)

    Lets be honest, these long bars of destiny are INTIMIDATING!
    I get some looks with my setup, get asked "you hunt with that".
    I have started taking my bars off my bow and letting others try them at the range, 9/10 they end up going inside to the shop and buying a stabilizer..

    Why is it, that an extendable stabilizer ( especially in the hunting field) not been produced. Something in regards of a trekking pole or tripod style. Twist lock, extend, shorten.
    Have the ability to shorten it apon travel/ storage and extend to desired balance point.

    I have heard some pretty reputable archery coaches discuss stabilizers, and I have come to believe what they said is true. You should NOT be trying to use stabilizers to get your bow to hold level, you should be using it to make the bow STAY level upon release. If your bow isn't level while holding it back, there's a problem with your form and what you'll end up with if you do this is you'll be "in tune" (shoot bullet holes through paper) when shooting field points with stabilize weights on, but you would be out of tune without stabilizer weights off... that means the bow is NOT tuned, and you are instead using stabilizers to compensate for improper form. It's better to practice your form and tune your bow without any stabilizer weights on, then add them a little at a time only to help keep the bow more steady from the time the trigger is tripped to the time the arrow has completely left the bow.
    My first few seasons I used my brothers old hand me down Mathews Feathermax. I used only an 8" front bar with only an ounce or two, no back bar, and it shot lights out. That sucker was pinpoint accurate. Tagged a few deer per year with it, and every single time hit the exact spot I was trying to hit. Then I bought my PSE. I quickly discovered that it was much harder to get tuned properly, I needed a back bar, and quite a bit of additional weights. Then I started missing deer... several times over a few seasons. I obviously blamed the bow for all of my problems. Then I started really heavily studying to try to improve my shooting technique. I took off the weights on my stabilizer while fixing my form (advise of one of the gurus I listened to). I learned and practiced proper shooting form. I learned how to properly tune my bow myself (did a complete re-tune on my bow, moves cam shims, etc), & finally set up my bow while using good form, and now things seem to have changed dramatically. My bow holds level withotu any weights, and I was shooting much better and more consistent groups. My flyers are not that far off. Now I use one ounce on my front bar, still have the back bar without any weight on it (because it works better than taking the back bar off), and plan to keep it that way for elk and deer season. It wasn't a problem with my bow, or the stabilizers. It was a problem with using poor form and not getting my bow tuned properly.

Thank you for taking the time and explaining how and why the bars are where they are. MFJJ is the man. The bow yoda. For sure. That should be a T shirt (just saying) much love homies from Long Island NY

      Lol this was a good video but dude Elkshape and Chris Bee both have videos on setting up your stabilizers already. MFJJ is even in the video with Elkshape.

    What would Josh recommend when you build a hybrid bow? Would i go for an in-between on purposely induceing torque and a natural balance? Im in Oklahoma so not a lot of off balace shots.

    Length may matter, but I am of a mind that says....and your mileage may vary,....I don't benefit from having a lot of weigh a long distance from my bow. I have longer, target style stabilizers. I don't have more than 4 oz on the end of a 30 inch rod and 4 oz total on the back of the bow. I have 2 oz on my back bar and 2 oz on the riser. This is a result of shooting the bow for 2 weeks with no weight on the bars.

    I'm not entirely convinced this fits within the price range, but I'd make a case for the PSE Embark, though I believe its MSRP is around $750. The PSE Drive NXT is definitely within that range. Bear dominates this category with compelling options. Now, the real question emerges: Do you opt for a three-year-old used flagship bow or invest in a brand new $650 bow?
