It was the first time I had lived so far from my family. I adjusted fairly well, but sometimes I would get homesick. My husband would tell me that I needed to get out for a while, and he would drive us into Toronto, where we would drive by the U.S. Consulate, so I could see the American flag flying. The Texas flag represents much more than what they described. The Star, the Lone Star represents the one state that at one time was it's own republic. The red and white stripes were intentionally placed with the red stripe on the bottom to represent the blood on the ground that was spilled to defend Texas.

It's Union flag or Union jack. Before 1600, ‘jack’ was used to describe a small flag flown from the mast mounted at the end of the bowsprit. By 1674, this flag was described formally as ‘His Majesty’s Jack’ and in common usage - officially acknowledged - as the Union Jack. During the eighteenth century, the short mast on the bowsprit disappeared, to be replaced by staysails on the stays between bowsprit and foremast. In 1902 an Admiralty Circular announced that either name could be used officially. And in 1908 the UK Parliament approved this verdict, stating that ‘the Union Jack should be regarded as the National flag’.

So he complained that Arkansas had to put the name of the state on the flag.... And then complained about states not putting the name. Speaking for the NY flag is this really a bad thing to have on the flag?
Allegorical figures of Liberty (left) and Justice (right) support the shield and an American eagle spreads its wings above on a world globe. Liberty's left foot treads on a crown, a symbol of freedom from the Kingdom of Great Britain, and holds a staff topped with a Phrygian Cap, a symbol of freedom and the pursuit of liberty. Justice is blindfolded and holds a sword in one hand and a scale in the other, symbolizing impartiality and fairness.
The center shield displays a masted ship and a sloop on the Hudson River (symbols of inland and foreign commerce) bordered by a grassy shore and a mountain range with the sun rising behind it.
Flying a flag for your country is racist? Wha? Why? It's OK to be patriotic when it's suitable to some. But if it bothers some people when they don't want to see it, there's a problem?

If you managed to view every episode of the former, "CBS" sitcom, "The Big Bang Theory", then you know that the fictional character, "Doctor Sheldon Cooper", has his own Web series, "Fun with Flags". So I've heard some of the flag facts before now. He too, is dismissive of flags that just use a seal. The city flag for, Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, used to be such a flag. It matched the doors of the white police cars. I don't know when it happened, but the design was relatively recently redesigned, to be more than that. 🤔
Oklahoma's state flag, is odd! How so? The words are backwards on one side, that's why! They aren't double-sided to be normal looking both ways. Most are sheer enough to see through them on sunny days. Sigh. 😕
