      Cindy....she is no longer here my friend....I'll discuss this in a future video....but long story short we simply were not getting along. Neither of us deserved to argue with each other all the time. I still love her very much, but there comes a time when after 10 breakups and "move outs" ...that I just had to make a decision.....something just wasn't right....I don't know how best to put it....something changed and wasn't right. I wish I had better news

      His region has a ton to do with it. But his program helps a lot too. You can’t do that in a Utah or Wyoming desert environment. That’s why he can have 30+ cows per acre vs in a place like I live, 1 cow would need 30 acres

    Man that field is looking way better then even a year ago.nice work. Also we just had a mink break into our coop and tok out all but 1 rooster. But n the bright side we got the mink today so when we restart our flock or egg birds there will be less danger. Also repaired the coop so I'm hoping we should be good. It took a tiny hole and made it about 3 x the size so it could fit through

    Curious, how often do you put lime on your fields?

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  Před rokem

      I use a product called solucal...it's similar to lime. I target a few acres per year...but if we can get the soil right...and use the animals...we should theoretically not need lime...lime is a patch for a larger problem..no hummus...the urine and manure that comes out of the cow is ph neutral..which should bring the Ph of the soil up

    • @Mammothbaron
      @Mammothbaron Před rokem

      @@StoneyRidgeFarmer love your channel btw. See if your local agricultural university offers soil testing. In West Virginia we had free soil testing and I would send in soil samples and get a report of the soil chemistry. Our clay soils there were very acidic, you can always tell because blackberry’s love acid soil. We would always spread pulverized lime stone (always buy the cheap stuff) and see great results from the plants and chemistry. Many things cause acidification of the soils. Acid rain, organically breaking down, and nitrification from fertilizers. The more organics and fertilizers (cow manure and urine) the more acidification you will experience. The urine maybe neutral coming out, but ph changes once it’s in the soil with bacteria. If you feel like it’s not worth the money, try a test area and apply different doses of lime. Your animals will also appreciate the added calcium for mommy cows who need keep up their minerals for lactating. I highly caution against putting the “recommended” fertilizer dosing that the soil tests call for, usually the amounts are 2x-4x too much. Lime first, and fertilize minimally. I have always preferred to fertilize about half of the recommended amount, and apply 1/4 of the amount I plan to put on each week with a walking spreader. When you apply as lightly and as often as I do, you won’t run into burning or wasting money. It’s great exercise too. After the fields are a month into growth, you don’t need any additional fertilizer, it’s starting to go to seed and you will just waste any extra spreading. You should do this as a video and it will be wildly popular and educational. You have plenty of acreage to show a decent test.
