- Sting performing 'Message In A Bottle' at Live Aid in front of 72,000 people in Wembley Stadium, London on the 13th July, 1985. The event was organised by Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for the Ethiopian famine disaster. Broadcast across the world via one of the largest satellite link-ups of all time, the concerts were seen by around 40% of the global population.

What a performance! He's alone with only a guitar in his hands and delivers one of the most stellar performances live in front of more than 70,000 people!
This is the power of his music! without lasers, lights, fireworks etc. The best is in 2023 his power is almost as strong
The sheer testicular fortitude to play such a hard song on guitar, play it almost flawlessly, sing on top, alone, in front of thousands of people with a sound that gives no room for error. Total respect !!!

What a voice he had in his prime. Could hit such incredibly high notes. Always liked his work with the Police better, although he has certainly had a brilliant solo career.

Sting is amazing. I saw the Police years ago and they were great. This was a fantastic concert with a great cause.
I've seen Sting live probably more than any other artist (three times with The Police) and he always slays!

Can someone please explain why there are so many missing performances from Live Aid (like this one) that aren’t on the dvd set? Ironic how the greatest concert to ever take place isn’t even available on a blu ray format…
When organiser Bob Geldof was persuading artists to take part in the concert, he promised them that it would be a one-off event, never to be seen again. That was the reason why the concert was never recorded in its complete original form, and only secondary television broadcasts were recorded.
Following Geldof's request, ABC erased its own broadcast tapes.
MTV decided to keep recordings of its broadcast but many songs in these tapes were cut short by MTV's ad breaks and presenters Many performances from the US were not shown on the BBC.

The REAL truth is that there was NEVER really going to be a DVD set.The only reason one was produced is that Bob discovered that there were many "pirate" versions of the concert being sold on the Web. I think they only produced a 4 disc Set (with so many missing performances) because they were unsure a bigger one would sell well. In the liner notes of the DVD , they claimed "much of the footage was missing". In Truth , only 2.5 mins of Sade's First track and some of the Who's Performance was missing from the Wembley gig. Hence, it is now being released bit by bit , by the Trust. Many enthusiasts like myself , hope one day , that they will release a FULL Blu ray , being as these days, the technology exists to upscale the original footage to 1080p , with VERY little quality loss. We can only hope.... But I doubt it will ever happen officially..
I have my personal BBC off air recording from the day (6xE180 TDK Tapes) , can you let me know which performances here not shown by the BBC? , as its 16 hours , and apart from the ones I mentioned above , I really did think I had everything...
in the case of led zeppelin, they asked not to appear in the dvd release and in the blu-ray and it's for the best. they were terrible that day. santana/pat methany, i have no idea why they asked to not be on the dvd.
Watched this when I was eighteen. Played it in gigs, have to fake it, I have small hands, but I used to nail it with my F sharp voice, and simple chords ,,now, I'm a register lower, and forty odd ears later....But it wad gold, in its moment.
