Why Your New GMRS Radios Can't Talk To Each Other. GMRS & Using GMRS Radios For Beginners

- In this very short GMRS educational video I explain the phenomenon that can prevent you from testing your GMRS (or ham) radios - causing your radios to appear to not work when talking from one to the other, or when testing a GMRS (or ham) repeater.

After hours of watching Randy, i have realized that this man never blinks!
I tried to check if he blinked. Now my eyes hurt from not blinking. I was afraid he'd slip in a synchronized blink.
@@JackManiacky 🤣
by hell you are right, now I'm scouring months if video to confirm this and my eyes are burning like fire GD it ... I am now confuckulated
That’s because he’s an AI generated BOT.
I went back and watched a few of his vids..no bink
"Hamsplaining." I nearly fell out of my chair.
Yet word I'll be unleashing in the ham radio groups. They STILL don't know what to do when you call them "sad hams."
Wait, you go to ham groups to troll them?
@@jamienoel plenty of people do.
@@jamienoel I am an Extra class license holder. I just don't like sad hams, and think they ruin the ham radio hobby for new people with all their holier-than-thou gatekeeping. So I troll them when they act out. They don't like people like me- I passed Technician and General in one sitting, then later passed Extra- all before I ever got my first ham radio. I have a CB and GMRS sitting on the same desk as my ham radios, and enjoy them all. And they are butthurt over anyone who didn't have to learn code 40 years ago and walk uphill, barefoot, in the snow, both ways to the hamfest...
@@TheREALJosephTurner Okay, gotcha. There are sad people in anything, really. It's a shame, but they exist. I'm new to GMRS, (just recently obtained my license) and while I know much of the technical aspects of it, I've learned some things here. I enjoy this channel and his sense of humor, it's entertaining. Happy ham since 1996.
My wife was watching this with me. She said the adult version of "WTF is wrong with you and your friends?" I said, "in my defense, technically we are just acquaintances." HAHAHAHA
An absolute master at de-confuckulating the airwaves!! Thanks again Randy!
I hate when my mom vacuums while I'm watching hamster pron.
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
Ctrl/Alt/Delete
sir, everything is deleted off this computer... what'd you do?
I was told to reset my computer to fix my internet, so I followed the guide on Google...
oh no...
A very common problem with an often overlooked solution. Most people don't think about radios being too close to each other thanks to the low powered FRS radios.
I've often thought of this issue. I always just move them apart.
THANK YOU!! This happened to me and my daughter just a few weeks ago. We were checking our radios and couldn't figure out why my wife could hear us both but we couldn't hear each other. Another Mystery Solved!
Another option-instead of blasting the signal at 8 watts or 5 watts, try a lower setting like 1 watt.
Didnt work for me. Even at low power and narrow band FRS channel. Only physically moving them apart about 45' got the units to respond to each other.
I did it and it worked
Pfff wattchu talkin bout willis?
Lmao I don’t even own a radio but I love watching this guy anyway! 😂😂😂🤪🤪😂😂😂
For $60 you can have a GMRS license and a UV5G. You’re already here, might as well.
I think this is your BEST video yet - A perfuct explanation !
I'm new to gmrs and experienced this yesterday when we went offroading and met up with a new group. Thank you for splaining to me why my radio wasn't working standing next to the other radio.
I’m glad I found this video just paid for my new GMRS license now waiting for the FCC approval. Now learning more about GMRS I’m intrigued by your opinion and answering questions. Poor sad hams.
it worked ! I reduced tx power, moved the 2nd radio to another room with the volume turned all the way up and i finally heard how my voice sounds like through a repeater. Thank u Randy. Kisses from 🇫🇷
Thank you! I was confuzzled by this very situation when trying to get my GMRS HT to work with the FRS radios at a local dog shelter. Now I know that I am your very favorite viewer.
your tasteful hamster pr0n and muffled passion reference had my laughing so hard I was crying.... lmfao
You, Sir, are a "CZcamsr". What I mean by that is that you absolutely understand the "character / personality" factor or CZcams. I am only slightly interested in this topic; however, I have subscribed because your personality would be interesting / entertaining talking about pretty much anything. Thank you for your skills and information.
I have watched so many of your vids. And this one, with the radios getting so close, especially the hamster/mom scenario, I nearly died laughing. Bravo, sir. Thank you for letting my very new and very dumb self know about this. Had it happen today (3rd day after getting my license and with a new radio). Thought something was wrong with the radio for sure... XD
Thank you for all your awesome and practical information for a "newbie" like me! Your great Randy!
Great explanation of the common problem. i am familiar with frs but i am no expert. iam getting into gmrs and i know i will have alot of learning to do . Thank you.
Good God! I found your channel. I have been using various comms for years, but your videos are the best at explaining things in a super dumbed down "Barney" way that I have never heard before. My hat is off to you sir!
BASIC BUT VERY IMPORTANT INFO...KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK BRO!!! 🙏🏿 COMING TO U FROM BROOKLYN NY
Dzień dobry. Rewelacyjne i proste instrukcje jak radzić sobie z nadajnikami radiowymi. Fenomenalne poczucie humoru przy pełnych profesjonalizmu wypowiedziach. Świetnie się ogląda i chłonie wiedzę. Pozdrawiam serdecznie z Polski!!!
Exactly!
I'd like to have a beer or two with Randy...although It'd likely be coming out my nose from the laughter he causes with his verbology antics! Thank you Randy for the beer mess over my desk and computer!
I do admire how you got certain words to use to be able to use now without being taken off like confuc ulation same to you buddy I love it.
After watching your past videos, I noticed the beretta firearm cleaning Matt, I appreciated that gunsmith here.
Videos are awesome, I will now steal the word “confuckery” 😂 I love it we need you to make videos in the gunsmithing community lol that’s the humor that it needs
The analogy of the hamster porn and mom really hit home for me. Makes total sense now!
Another video with good info to a simple problem
YOU SIR.......ARE THE MAN !!! I LAUGH MY A$$ OFF EVERY TIME WITH YOUR VIDEOS !! YOU ARE A JEDI MASTER IN "SMART ALEC" FORCE !!
I feel honored to be a subscribed follower of you, Sensei, but I now have to order an, "Entitled", T-Shirt, because as your favorite viewer, your opinion does matter! 👌
lol didnt know this was a fresh video til i clicked it. good work
That’s the exact same interference I receive when my wife is too close to me too. Nicely, I ask her to back up some, after that my radio Conversation becomes clear.
You, my ‘friend’, are truly hysterical…thank you for all the sad-ham laughs 😂🤣😁
Great splanation for the newbs randy ! Also extremely hilarious I died laughing when you made that face after saying when your mom 🤣🤣🤣
At the 4:15 mark, are you sure that’s not the “stepmama”? Cough
One of your best videos Randy!
I love your videos, you crack me up, thanks for the knowledge!!
I put on Hamster Videos on VHS and my two radios started working again! Thanks NotARubicon!
Im old fashioned. I just lean out my jeeps window and scream at the top of my lungs 3 or 4 times till i get pissed the other rig cant hear me then proceed to get out and walk over to them.
That What We do in the Shadows poster is amazing
Love these videos.
Funny as hell! “ 🐹 prons and vacuums.”.. the GMRS scene is wild y’all!
Thanks for the wonderful mental images!
Perfecto. Again. Keep’m coming!
Chapter 42 ?? I only paid for 40 chapters... Am I getting charged extra ?
I do not think hamster porn has been covered enough on this channel. Thank you. I've learned I need to break the vacuum.
I always knew that when two radios were too close they couldn’t hear one another, but didn’t understand why.
“Desense.” The equivalent of someone shouting as loudly as possible into your ear, you just become overwhelmed with audio and you can’t make sense of what they said.
Or when you’re at an air show and the planes rushing by you overwhelm any other sound present, you can’t hear anything else.
You did not call me "you, my favorite viewer" and I am very disappointed because it makes me feel spectacular!
Confukled is my new favorite word.
Like the "good old days" of cable TV. Getting ghosting or double image while watching local channels. The signal came through the cable as it's supposed to, but the cable itself acted like an antenna in turn overloading the TV's receiver. back then of course, you could just pop an inline attentuator before the TV and presto! Nice and clear.
GMRS RAGE is a thing?
Get out the coloring book and bring out the puppies!
Thank God I'm already prepared. I have a puppy in my truck all the time.
Phew! During your explanation, I had first imagined a hamster being sucked up by a vacuum cleaner. Glad I was wrong.🐹
When he pitch shifted his voice and the camera went bubble eyed; I fell out of my chair 😜
Thanks!
Thank YOU!
Randy, you are the most awesome splainer ever and a CZcamsr extraordinaire. Bravo for deconfuckulating this anomaly.
Similar problem. Using two Btech V2 gmrs radios about 8 feet from each other, - when using the same "stock" gmrs channel ( same frequency) on both radios they talk to each other fine. But with both radios tuned in to the same llocal gmrs repeater channel l(same tone code also) they can't hear each other. How come it works for close range for non-repeater channels, but not for close range repeater channel? Thanks
Love your t-shirts!
Love it.
I like your name!
Very helpful
I've also experienced many GMRS repeaters that set an input ctcss tone, and claim an output ctcss tone (ideal), but only carry the input tone, in turn shutting out all radios that are properly configured for both. Just something else to consider...
If you run a GMRS repeater, please for the love of god, place a tone on both your input and output. There are waaaay too many idiots on the bands to not have this setup properly.
DAM YOU! I spit coffee all over my keyboard when you said hamster P.
I lost it at “yo momma” 😂
How many of us are here from the comments on the programming video 🙋🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ thanks man. I learned a ton from your series . Much much appreciated . I’m getting unconfuckulated as you speak.
Brother you are too funny, but educational!
Breaker 1-9, good buddy. State pooper coming up your back door... come own. Ye hah!!!
Great channel
I have a question. Is there a standard channel most people use? For instance on CB it was 19. Emergency was 9. Are there standard like that with gmrs? I remember that part was very handy back in the day.
You should watch these two videos:
czcams.com/video/TrpndRwhtPg/video.html
czcams.com/video/C1A_iaY5GaM/video.html
Hamsplaining. Awesome! I'm so gonna use that. (And I'm a ham.)
Forgot to zoom into your pic on the wall behind you. Please edit your ending and add. Thanks!
F’ing love this guy
I confess I had this very issue as a new ham with two HTs. I eventually solved it by putting one in the garage with my phone adjacent to it and recording audio/video of the HT, while I walked around the corner to transmit. Thus with a phone you can engage in ah "solo testing" without revealing your initial ignorance to anyone else.... er... until you comment on a YT video.
I bought a new Midland mxt 575. I can hear others, but they don't respond to me. Im not sure if I don't have the radio set up correctly or there's some other issue. I have a handheld mrs and it receives and I can carry on a conversation with no issues. On the road, I can hear others, but like I stated, they don't respond. I would appreciate your advice.
Thanks You, Roger
My guess is that you are hearing repeater traffic and they will only hear you if you configure your radio to use that repeater.
🤣😂 awesome analogy!!
New viewer binge watching your videos. I died laughing almost immediately because new guys at my work get frustrated all the time for this exact reason until someone explains the talk around feature on our units. Love your content and your videos inspired me to get my grms license. I was originally thinking ham was my only alternative for my use case until I accidentally stumbled on your channel from a chirp video over on hrcc.
love the new term
I'm late to the party on this.
But it's the best as always 😌🤷
What, like, how did this happen? Yes, two radios to close will not be able to communicate, it's also why when setting up your router you can't be right next to it with your phone.
I’ve never had this happen on simplex, and the only time I’ve had it happen on duplex is when my mate was running 25 watts on his his icom 400 pro
Does one have to buy only two gmrs radios? Do they only work in pairs? Or can multiple gmrs radios (same brand) talk to each other (communicate) ?
all GMRS radios can talk with all other GMRS or FRS radios.. You can buy 1, you can buy a pair, or you can buy 10, they will all talk with each other.
“NOISE HOLES” … 😂😂😂
what really works : unplug any wires and blow into them, stick a paperclip into any small hole on the device, and mostly going to the radio store and getting bottles of squelch. Luckily I have several bottles of squelch from supply from when I was in the Army.
"Ham-splaining" 🤣
the hamster porn example really brought it home to me
Didn't know exactly where to ask this, so I'll try here. Have a fairly new Baofeng GM-15 pro. I, just recently, have a situation where it won't transmit to other radios. Definitely not too close. It receives just fine. It's on it's basic setting, nothing really turned on or programed. Any ideas?
"wont transmit", meaning it just beeps and the transmit light does not light up, or, it transmits but the other radio does not receive it?
Closer to the later. There is no beep, and the red light comes on. Tried it on 2 spare more basic Motorolas I have. The Motorolas can talk to each other, and I tried it with a friends FRS (don't know the brand). No beep, red light, but not able to tx through. @@TheNotaRubicon
Anymore info that might be of help? Thx@@TheNotaRubicon
Do GMRS repeaters send a Roger beep or ID after you kerchunk it like a 2m repeater?
If the repeater owner set it up to, yes.
Comedy gold!! For nerds. But really… mom vacuuming. Omg. I Spitup my beer. Holding with both hands
Another good way to test if it is hearing you. If your $25,500 cell phone has video capabilities, set it up to record your receiving radio and walk outside and away from the house and talk into the other radio. Then playback the video to see the quality of the received radio.
Please help first time user. Wouxun GMRS radio can transmit to a FRS radio but can't receive even with DTCS on or off on both units. Thank you.
Double-check to ensure that no DTCS or CTCSS tones are enabled on the radio you are trying to receive on. Then make sure the radios are at least 50 feet apart, and try again.
@@TheNotaRubicon Thank you. Have a nice holidays.
Just passed my Technicians. I’ll m officially a GMRS& SAD HAM!
I need that WWDITS poster.
Oh no step GMRS mom, I’m stuck in the airwaves
Yo mama.....lol I spit coffee everywhere.. i am still laughing. O by the way who gets the cleaning bill? lol
What happens if you adjust the little pots on the circuit board? Or swap antennas for a powered one with a 400mhz to 5ghz range..? Can you trigger the 498 mhz devices and pick up wifi? Lol
Laughing too hard at the example you gave. I'm a new sub to the channel and I appreciate the explanation.
@1:47 The Edit 😂
So I need more farrs but not to much farrs and obstacles can affect my Farrs....got it Thanks Randy
I have the same problem as many of your readers that purchased the UV-9r. It will not transmit on Ch.15. Using your solution to send them back only results in another radio with the same problem. The fix is published in Chinese. With your great status at Boafeng could you get the link in english and publish it?"
Buy a good radio, dude.
