You can debate who has better attributes and be respectful about it- as someone who prefers watching Messi more myself I respect Ronaldo for what he's done, and for how long both him and Messi have done it for. Back in my college days in 2012-2016 you almost watched Real and Barca plunder in 6-7 goals a game and Messi and Ronaldo both used to grab 2-3 goals a game, it was almost a certainty to watch.. and that itself is baffling. Players would be grateful to have a tenth of the stats they have and these 2 are beyond a shred of doubt, 2 of the best footballers we will ever have the honour to watch.

People aka the media narrative will really make you think Ronaldo was JUST stats no if you watched his games every 3 years he changed his game to stay at the top for 20 YEARS! The debate really was over after 2012. If you asked anyone, children or adults during when we had the olympics in London, they'd tell you Messi was easily the best and easily the greatest player that they'd ever seen.
The only reason why people debate it again, is because of CR7's UCL performances after he turned 30, where people will tell you about longevity and 'big moments', but if you watched both of these players, the difference is that Messi loves the ball, he wants to play with it all the time, take on players, make creative passes, score crazy goals, get his team out of trouble. CR7 however, loves to score goals. You would almost never see him in the build up but you'd always see him waiting for that ball in the box and he'd always be there.

Ronaldos stats come from playing in Portugal, England, Spain, Italy and Saudi. With the exception of Portugal league where he was young, he smashed every single league, was revolutionary for Madrid vs a side that was dominant at the time with Messi and really shouldve had an extra ballondo'r.
