I have hee using the secondary pull start on top of engine flywheel. Only takes a minute to take cover off and wrap pull line. Since it’s on my sailboat I only need to start it once to motor into marina I’ve broke 2 of these on my BF5a but really need to make time and correct it.

I had to do the same when mine broke to get back to shore. It caught the rope in the secondary pull start and wound it in. It was lucky I hadn't wrapped the makeshift pull start rope around my wrist else I'd have lost my arm. A repair is essential for safety.

That was quite helpful…… but my cock wheel is not broken but now I figured out that the spring underneath snapped …… so the rope won’t retract anymore …..
