- Each month The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation hosts a Meet the Scientist Webinar featuring a researcher discussing the latest findings related to mental illness. In October, 2018, the Foundation featured Dr. Marina R. Picciotto of Yale University School of Medicine.
Description: Nicotine is the primary addictive component of tobacco. We now know a great deal about the targets for nicotine in the brain and the circuits involved in its behavioral effects. There is also a longstanding association between tobacco smoking, anxiety and depressive disorders. In this presentation, I will discuss studies in mice and humans that have identified the targets and brain areas that are important for the addictive effects of nicotine and how this relates to brain circuits that are impaired in individuals with anxiety and depression.

I found a case where a nicotine patch was used to stop a 5 year old from having 50 seizures a night. She was resistant to medications. We need more research
Go and watch Dr Bryan Ardis documentary he is telling the truth about nicotine you will love this documentary
Wow thank you so much for this.
Oh My word you guys!! Thank you so much for creating this. This is incredible work here. I love the level of detail covered in this video by Dr. Picciotto!! I am absolutely enthralled, and resolutely subscribed to your channel, and wait with bated breath for your release of more. Thank you thank you thank you. this is so much more illuminating and digestible than a lit review!!
So ciggartes can cause or contribute to depression? 😳
Yes more likely. Blocking certain Nicotine receptors contribute as a anti-depression.
Not timeline .
Are there any studies in the works for LSD and quit smoking? LSD and depression?
I have the same question, is LSD effects on study to stop smoking?
Mushrooms helps for depression and alcoholism. Probably smoking too

Why is everything “might” or “we think” when can we get ourselves actually data and not “hypothesis”.
Because our government relies on Australia and Great Britain for results from testing groups of people and physiology. However, we have a difficult culture so that is a big factor, and you will hear, we think this or that because our culture is not a factor in the research. Our government wants us to fail, think of the billions of dollars in taxes that are collected off cigarettes and billions to quit with smoking aides. The same with sugar in our foods and obesity.
@@c_farther5208 it’s the most addictive substance on earth and only Governments sell it or tax it if the authorize it. I definitely see a pattern and its the entire COMMONWEALTH too.
@@john_says_hi This is the correct answer.
@@c_farther5208 How do you kono it is the government and not Tabaco masquerading as Government in relation to taxes
Big business determine what governments do
So the biggest lie is that governments can force whole cities to stay home but they can't stop selling ciggarettes. Can someone explain this to me?
So what I'm understanding is that because these smokers are actively opening and blocking their receptors sometimes they block the amount of ACh in the brain which can cause symptoms if too much ACh is in the brain?
^depression like
So I have suicidal depression and an also hopelessly addicted to nicotine. When i don't have nicotine I go through withdraws to the extreme. If i get antidepressants that would be a good thing?
try nico gum
PLEASE SEE YOUR DOCTOR TO HELP YOU QUIT.
Short answer: probably, yeah.
Yes, the other physical and habitual withdrawals are pretty awful but will stop in time and I think everyone just has to push through that part. But if you're already short on mood chemicals because you have depression, there's WAY more at play here. Again, PLEASE SEE YOUR DOCTOR TO HELP YOU QUIT. I don't want anyone, ever, to have to go through what I did. I've been doing great on 300mg Wellbutrin and lots of phenylalanine, but I came to it very belatedly and besides that's just me.

@@BethanyMeredith Great response. I wish Wellbutrin worked for me... when I tried it for smoking cessation, it worked great for a little while (no cigarette cravings, no depression), but then I had “serum sickness,” which is basically an allergic reaction to medication. I can’t take Wellbutrin! What is phenylalanine?
@@markdaniels7174 Bummer!
Phenylalanine is an amino acid and the raw material for dopamine and norepinephrine, the same chemicals that Wellbutrin affects. I've gotten a lot of mileage from Julia Ross's The Mood Cure; maybe you could too. But of course always talk to your MD...
It does not say that in how many days the nicotine receptor will be completely removed from the brain.
Does it really leave?

I don't want to hear someone on the phone; I can't believe this video is so awful. Thumbs down.
