I then used Resolve to brighten and add color saturation to a semi-drab presentation to VERY nice effect. I also removed some annoying hiss from the audio. Greatest SB matchup ever as well. Defending champion Dallas Cowboys vs the Pittsburgh Steelers dynasty. This was the best Steeler team ever and arguably the best Dallas team of that era. 2 legendary true World Champion squads. Both teams just dominated their conferences down the stretch that year, its hard to think of many years where the 2 SB teams separated themselves this much from the rest of the NFL going in the SB. And the final showdown did not disappoint.

The Cowboys (unfortuntely) almost never wore those blue jersey uniforms. They wore the white at home, and on the road most of their opponents wore the dark home jerseys. I think a few years later (1980) the opponents considered the Dallas blue as bad luck (for the Cowboys) and switched to their home whites to make Dallas wear the blue. Not sure how effective that was.

Atlanta heartbreak in 1978 and 1980. Then blowing a 28-3 lead in a Super Bowl over NE. That Muriel cigar commercial with model/actress Susan Anton was a memory. Almost ANY quarterback would've been better than Haden. If the Rams had drafted a star QB or even traded for one, they would've won a Super Bowl or two in the 70's. They had ALL of the parts, except for a QB who was better than Pat "The Weak Link" Haden.

As a kid growing up in So Cal in the 70s I was obsessed with the Rams. Everything. All the players. the Losses to Dallas and Minnesota every year. High Stress over it. Ive never liked a team as much. Dickerson brought it all back after my heros like Dryer et al started to retire. Once Dickerson was allowed to leave I really started to get angry but Jim Everett saved my fandom. After him, nothing. No feelings especially after they left to go to St Louis. No thrill to even get them back. The 70s were the best time in life. I still cant get over the lack of Super Bowls for that great team and we really should have beaten the Steelers in 14. If you were a kid in the 70s that pulled for the Rams, Im guessing there has been nothing that came close other than the Lakers in the 80s but that was different. The Rams were it.

@@cortchiewelch9492 I remember that year like it was yesterday. 79 team not as good as 78 team. We went 9-7 and the upset of Dallas the week before on the road was as awesome as it got that decade and we got a weak(yeah I know they had a tough defense etc) Tampa Bay team instead of a typical cold weather type game against Minnesota. Winning 9-0 was not overly impressive but got the job done. A fitting end to a very frustrating decade. We had the Steelers 19-17 after 3 quarters and played one of our best games in the Super Bowl. Very frustrating 4th quarter but one of their better games. What a great time to live and see those guys. Actually met Fred Dryer at the end of the year and he signed my 1979 schedule poster personalizing it to me and taking the time to talk to a young fan once he found out my mom was a San Diego State Alumni and just a couple years older than him. The rare time I met a hero and I was glad to do so. Still one of my all time favorite players in any sport. Great man.

I love the recollections shared here in the comments .Bless the RCA Selectavision 400, other home taping machines and those with the foresight that allowed us to view games from the bygone era. A virtual time machine back to fun times- 1978 was special-The anticipation for the two Conference Championship games, Playing all sports outside year round, having my first beautiful girlfriend, (Bless you Lillian), The Posters on our walls, my KISS albums, The NFL Today, Those fantastic Cowboy Blue uniforms and their contrast to the Rams great white jerseys, John Ramsey's booming voice on the P.A., "Crazy Ray" Jones, Gypsy Boots, The Embraceable Ewes with Jenilee Harrision, Loni Anderson, Ken "White Shadow" Howard, The Great HOF and tough Pro Bowl players and the characters....at the time, @ 3:43:50, I was running stride for stride with "Hollywood" Henderson. The Anticipation for Super Bowl XIII...I could go one forever with recollections...
Whatever preconceived notions you have about this game, forget them. This is a great defensive struggle between 2 of the best 3 NFL Teams of the great 1978 season. Perhaps the all-time best season. Even though I have seen this game many times, we have never seen it come to life, in full potential, like this since it's original airing. I watched the enhancement immediately. As Tom Brookshier exclaims to Pat Summerall in the wrap up, "Let's Go get a Cola, alright.." This was a day and broadcast to celebrate.
Now, who has the CBS Sports Spectacular "NFL Cheerleading Classic" reels/tape in their closet? send them Mr. Volsky's way, pronto!

After going 12-4 in 1978 Haden would go 10-12 the next 3 seasons and be out of football. Guess he was too short...LOL Of course Vince Ferragamo caught fire and took the Rams to a Super Bowl in 1979, but Haden basically fizzled by age 28.

As a Cowboys fan, I remember this one very clearly, the Cowboys just totally taking over the game after a 0-0 first half, and despite having to wear their blue jerseys. And Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson walking the talk. Also in watching this game again, it's hard to believe Roger Staubach only played one more season.

As a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, this is my most favorite Dallas Cowboys victory of all time because they won and won big in a truly decisive 28-0 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on the road in the LA Coliseum while wearing their cursed, jinxed road blue jerseys. The very same cursed, jinxed road blue jerseys that Dallas wore three months earlier in an embarrassing 27-13 loss to the Rams in the very same LA Coliseum.

In week 3 of the NFL season the Cowboys went out to L.A. and got rolled by the Rams. The Rams' defense harried Roger Staubach all day, sacking him 3 times and forcing him into 4 INTs. Late in the game he was sacked and angrily responded to the Rams' celebration by saying, "We'll see you f***ing chokers in the playoffs". Yep, St. Roger actually used the f-word.

I was 10 in 78 and lived in Irving just down the road from Texas stadium. That was the year I got to meet Tom Landry and Roger Staubach. Man the world was such a better place back then. My Mom worked for a medical rehabilitation center in Dallas. Every year they had a telethon that aired on local channels. She always answered phones and took pledges so she could be on tv 😂 I always went and hung around to meet famous people 😂 It was 3 or 4 in the morning and I was in a break room by myself when a guy in sunglasses came in and sat down and struck up a conversation with me. We just talked and even split a sandwich. My Mom stuck her head in and asked me if I wanted to meet coach Landry. Of course I was excited and my friend said oh boy you don’t want to miss that. When my Mom and I were walking down the hall she asked me if I knew who that was that I was eating with. I said yeah his name is Roy and he’s a nice guy. Well it was Roy Orbison and I’ve been a big fan ever since 😂

A tale of two seasons in one for the cowboys that year. As defending champs they went from terribly under-preforming to playing like world champions down the stretch. From mid November on they looked practically unbeatable. They wheeled off 8 in a row going into the SB.

Thanks for this. I used to run into Ed too tall Jones and Tony Dorsett in a couple of the more popular Dallas bars in the late 70s and early 80s. It was amazing how truly big Ed Jones was in person. On the other hand Tony was just average a size guy but with muscles. Both were great dudes to talk to. I loved the way they used to broadcast the NFL on CBS and NBC. Football was better back then and it was the main theme. Not the added controversy that seems to be a part of the NFL and broadcasting teams today. People were more humble back then. Plus the commercials were simple and down to earth. Not like the commercials today. Again, thank you for posting these games.

A tremendous tribute to the men who played real football, which is a hand to hand combat sport with rules, played any in weather. Do you have backups Dave? Watching these games and then seeing how many plays would now have penalties called in today’s game. Case in point: the play Haden threw his last int would have been reversed today due to him taking an obvious shot to the head. Turned out to be a huge turn of events, as was only 7-0 at the time, and the int gave the Cowboys a short field to their second TD

Thanks for leaving in the commercials. Some of them (Tuborg Gold and AC Spark Plugs in particular) are so incredibly awful. Not sure why I have no memory of this game. I lived in the Houston area and I recall the Steelers destroying the Oilers earlier that day. But as Texas only had one really good team we were a long time Cowboys family.
