    “Every Filipino is half-Spanish”- not true; although most, probably, claim to be.
    Many Filipinos adopted (or were forced to adopt) the Spanish surnames of their Spanish conquistadores. A Spanish-sounding family name is never a DNA test result that says you have Spanish blood in you.

    • @StrawberryMilkkTeaa
      @StrawberryMilkkTeaa Před 3 lety +9

      Right!? Filipinos LOVE to claim they’re mixed Spanish just because of their Spanish surname. But that couldn’t be farther from the truth as despite being under Spanish colonization for over 300 years, there just wasn’t a huge enough number of Spanish migration to the Philippines during the colonization period. The Spaniards sent mostly people from their, then, New capital - Mexico City. Thousands of Mexicans were sent to the Philippines each year as laborers, soldiers, etc., while only a few “pure” Spanish (less than 1,000) migrated to the Philippines; due to the great distance between Spain and The Philippines, many Spaniards preferred to instead migrate to other Spanish colonies closer to Spain.
      Majority of the population are still primarily Austronesian. An average or typical Filipino will have significantly more percentage of Chinese ancestry than Spanish ancestry, if at all. Fact of the matter is, majority have little to zero trace of European ancestry and it’s evident in their physical appearance. Unlike in most of Latin America where traces of European ancestry is clearly visible in the populations which is evidence of years of CONTINUOUS mixing between the indigenous people and Spaniards. That didn’t happen much with Filipinos and eventually those with European ancestry have diminished more and more. Today, there’s hardly any Filipino that exist now with a significant percentage of European ancestry from the colonial times.
      Also the reason for Filipinos having Spanish surname was a result of the Claveria Decree (ordered by the Spanish governor general at that time) in which Filipinos, by law, were to adopt a Spanish surname, mainly for tax registration purposes. Although of course, intermarriages did happen as well, it wasn’t as common as Filipinos would like to believe, given that the Spaniards looked down on Filipinos. It was more common to rape than to marry a Filipino. It’s such a sad fact that many Filipinos, still today, don’t know much about their own history. Instead, they easily accept and romanticize the idea that they could be partially European as the reason for their Spanish surname.
      Filipinos equate having Spanish or American ancestry as being superior and “beautiful.” That you’re “special.” So they push the idea that many, if not all, Filipinos have Spanish ancestry - I guess to feel better about themselves. An inferior complex brought on by years of Western colonization. Very sad. The funny thing is, majority of Filipinos look like a typical Southeast or East Asian person so when a Filipino makes a claim that ALL or MOST of us are part Spanish, it only serves to make us look bad to foreigners, like we’re all just a bunch of wannabe European. It’s honestly embarrassing.

      And get your facts straight, in today's day and age, people around the world already are mixed-blood! There's no such thing as "pure blood" anymore!

Filipinos are East Asian ancestry as all SEA people are (After the Ice Age the Asian continent broke into Islands like Taiwan & PH etc.) & Austronesian (migrants that came from Fiji & Guam originate from PNG & Australia) tribes in PH have mostly mixed together but Aeta Filipinos etc. still exist. Filipino have their own ancestors who are part of the "Oriental Realm" Indo-Malay-Indo Chinese. When people say "he looks K-POP or J-POP" the correct term is "Original Filipino/Pinoy". When you see a Pinoy with a button/wider nose that is Austronesian blood. Most Filipinos with Spanish Last Names have ZERO Spanish blood & some that have Filipino language last names may still have. Spanish colonization took away their Original character writing/kanji. Filipinos weren't colonized like Latin America Mezo-indiginous-Mestizo had to make Spanish the national language, Filipinos kept their culture, languages only influenced them but they kept all their languages with both East Asian & Austronesian being dominant in the words.

      Irish people do not belong to the UK, to be technical about it. Only the ‘Northern Irish’ belong to the United Kingdom.

    Filipinos are really accepting culture especially if you speak the language. You don't just see full blooded PINOYS like ROBI DOMINGO as tv hosts or especially models. Many Biracial Pinoys part british like Edward Barber & Enrique Gil is German/Spanish on his dad side etc with alot of the beauty queens etc. And since Philippines were colonized by USA over 50 years ago they have been more English influenced which you can see or detect in pinoy slang, neibor Asian countries come to PH to learn English and most pinoys 1st names are English sounding (:
