Oh no. I’m so sorry Geoff. I think your positivity is amazing. I hope the other storm left the farm alone. Luckily only a few branches down here.
Have to be positive or I'd cry! 🤣 glad no major damage with you.
Geoff I am so sorry this has happened to you. I had raccoons get all my silkies too. I am so glad you were able to save some of them. I'm sending you prayers. Even pets are close to the heart. I hope the best for you. and thank you for another video.
Thanks Renee, really appreciate that. And so sorry about your silkies. Sorry that happened to you too!
One thought, now you know how strong the storms can be, the proper chicken shelter could be anchored into the ground and a much better structure made that will keep the foxes away.
It's no joy finding the birds.
I would put the chicken enclosure closer to the greenhouse as an emergency shelter for the birds if necessary. The bushes and trees would break some of the wind.
Farming is one business that entails life and death, it's never easy to lose animals.
At least you're not shoveling a meter of wet snow (a yard deep snow) just to get in the yard.
Spring is coming, you'll be busy.
That farming expression "there's always next year" applies to 2024. May this one be the best yet.
The wind is definitely a huge factor. Unfortunately closer to poly wouldn't necessarily work because it depends on the wind direction; Henk destroyed stuff in garden field, Isha came the opposite direction. So I think I need shorter coops to don't catch so much wind. All the aviaries were fine too, so aviary type pens with smaller coop boxes for protection at night might be a good idea.
As you day, 2024 is the year!
Oh, Geoff! I’m terribly sorry that the storm and foxes did so much damage ☹️
Thank you. Mother Nature!
Your ability to sort out these issues and carry on is really inspiring. You are doing and amazing job!
Thank you so much. That's very generous!
So sorry with all the drama from the storm. I love Jock's green nose, he's such a happy boy
I completely hear you. Why do all the storms happen at night? Always seems to be the way so, like you, I don't really sleep at all; just lay in bed getting really anxious. I'm glad you haven't had damage but that doesn't stop the worry!
Aww! I feel for you Geoff! Bloomin storms!! Sending good vibes and best wishes xx
Thank you 😊
Hey Geoff. We are sensory that you have had this damage and poultry losses. Glad you have such a positive attitude.
You have starter birds for some new rare breed flocks. The sheep and the pigs are looking well. Great idea about cladding the pig area
before the piglets come. We have had very little damage thanks. Glad you are ok. Jacob and Johnny. 🐶
I'm glad you guys are okay up there. That's a blessing!
Thanks Geoff, we are fine thanks. Most of our buildings are stone. A blessing indeed.
It's siling down and very windy here atm.
Jacob. 🧔 and Johnny 🤓 🐶@@BrimwoodFarm
So sorry you have had another setback but glad you can turn it around to a positive new start. Hope you can get all the jobs done you have planned and look forward to the piglets arrival 😊
Have to try and spin it positively or else I think we'd all be in tears 🤣🤣
So sorry this happened Geoff. Glad you're finding the positive in it.
Thanks. Gutted it happened but gotta keep going!
Oh Geoff - I’m so sorry! It’s sickening when the fox gets them. Wish I lived nearby so I could come help.
Big hug!
Just a thought - maybe Omlet would be interested in you as an Ambassador for the walk-in runs?
Thank you. It was such a shock - esp as I lock them up. I wasn't expecting the whole darn coop to get destroyed. And good idea!
Awe Geoff, I feel sick at the thought of what happened. Def can't blame the fox of course but it is very sad. Good luck building a new poultry palace or should I say castle to keep foxy out for good. Hope the next storm isn't as damaging. Take care. Mags
Thanks Mags. Don't think its supposed to be as bad but yes ... poultry castle incoming.
Sorry you've gone through this but thank you for sharing how to change your thinking (finding gratitude in adversety ❤)
Thanks so much!
Bloody hell Geoff I don’t know how you do it.. from a business perspective it didn’t turn out too bad, but saying that heartbreaking to find that mess in the morning. Best foot forward 😀
Thank you! It can seem never ending at times!
😮 Sorry fella.
Imagine if you were OFF site ALL of the time!
If only I lived closer, I'd be there. Is there anyone else around?
Edit to add... your attitude at the end was brilliant 👏
I fully understood the "clean slate" that has been given you!
I've got a couple folk that can come help. Being on site has helped immensely ... yes, it didn't stop the destruction but the fox was still in the field when I went. I've no doubt it would have come back and finished the lot off!
new subscriber from an off grid homestead in Cyprus
Hello Cyprus from a very stormy UK! Hope your weather is treating you a bit better!
Awk sorry to hear Geoff. I do think you definitely have the right attitude is looking at your losses. Nice to have pet chickens but unless they're tilling the soil AND giving eggs better to be gone. I have the rooster brothers. They will stay as long as they do their clearing jobs I need them to do lol.
This is the time if year of the foxes coming close at least it was when I lived in the small village and now I'm out on the farm too and worried they'll get eaten if I'm anything less than diligent in my locking of pens. Only 4 trees down so I've been cutting trees all day today. I hope to sleep well tonight-I'm not a scared-cat, but this was my first storm on the farm... Was a bit freaky. Outhouse did not blow over this time lol
Glad you made it! I agree, not scaredy cat but you can't help laying in bed wondering if anything is being wrecked!
Great you can look on the bright side. This lousy weather is driving us all to distraction.
Isn't it just!
Oh dear Geoff , so sorry for the distress ,, what a nightmare ,, could you perhaps downsize your flock and just have the Rhode island red chickens, ex battery sort so you can sell the eggs at the farm gate ? I’d entice all the birds back into a second hand shed overnight with slabs in the bottom so it doesn’t blow over ,, don’t you get fed up of folk giving you well meaning advice ? 🤣🤣🤣
Glad you’re seeing the positives,
Best wishes, Lisa
I think I'm going to have to keep them all in separate little enclosed runs that won't take off! The shed was extremely heavy as all the tin; I'm very surprised it went over! Too tall I suspect.
Sorry to hear that 😢
Thank you
It's horrible when that happens I don't clip my hens wings anymore to give them a fighting chance they don't get out much so it's not too much of a pain . Storm passed here without too much damage thankfully.you were lucky you'd got most of your breeding birds in when it happened to me last all I had was 11 eggs & no incubator!! 😮
Oh gosh ... that's awful! I'm so thankful I'd moved most of the important birds. 🙏
Im so sorry, that’s the last thing you need to see when you get up first thing in the morning. I’m so glad you had so many safely installed in the barn. I know Fox has to eat and whatnot, but Grrrrrrr that they don’t just take what they need!
Most importantly as I type this I’ve just been outside assessing what damage Jocelyn has done, because she was much worse here that Isha, and I hope she wasn’t as vile on the other side of the country xx
She sounded worse than Isha to be honest, but perhaps all the damage was done as luckily no more occurred. And you're so right about foxes. I don't begrudge them the odd bird here and there; it's natural. But I hate that they come in for a killing frenzy!
Jeez I'm sorry Geoff, but glad there is some silver lining for a new start in 2024 and think the new storm may not be quite as fierce.
No, she's supposed to be a bit gentler thank goodness
HI
Do you still have your old caravan? That could be a good chicken house maybe?
I think it may be a bit past it after goat use unfortunately.
And the weather is modified/controlled so make the best of it 😮 we live in a crazy world.
I feel really stupid for moaning about losing 2 fence panels, sorry mate 😞
Thanks mate. It's all relative though, isn't it? I was saying today I feel bad for moaning when I have food, shelter etc.
😢
Bait a trap or two with those dead birds to get revenge
Yes, this fox has become a total nuisance so will have to deal with it.
omg this is so sad man really sad
I was proper gutted. Poor birds
@@BrimwoodFarm yeah but in a way mother nature allowed you now to focus on rare breed and fresh young birds , still a shame , mibby next coops large triangle frames might stand the winds a bit better but hopefully the worst storms are over and the rest are just angry uk normal weather 🌦️
Sorry for your lost
Thank you
