You need only look at all of the hundreds of town halls Bernie has conducted where he has given the microphone to people in the audience and said "here tell us about your experience". Him and his team have been so great at sharing those experiences and getting people who perhaps felt ashamed to talk of their suffering to think "oh there are other people like me?". @@barrycrawford7326 It would be interesting to know more about who you are. You certainly don't know the difference between communism/socialism and Sen. Sanders' democratic socialism. And you certainly don't know any of Sanders' biography since he was an undergrad activist at the U. of Chicago protesting school segregation in the city, crossing a police line and arrested (the NAACP got him out the next day), organizing the first sit-in in the city (at the university), organizing a busload to DC for MLK's historic March for Jobs and Freedom (with his famous "I have a Dream" speech). To view the You Tube "Bernie & Civil Rights in Chicago" should be educational.
      But Sanders was just starting. This consistent champion of "the little people"-- the leader you dare call "a nobody"--has been a lifelong warrior for civil, economic, environmental, gender, racial, and social justice...and for peace. He was elected to four consecutive terms as mayor of Vermont's largest city. As first a U.S. Representative and now in his 2nd term as Senator, he has been elected as the longest-serving Independent in Congress. His protest against our entry into the Iraq War was constant and stirring. His years of consistent effort to get the first-ever increase of the fed minimum wage is a landmark and moved his bill from zero co-sponsors early on to 30+, when it finally passed the House in 2019. Of course, McConnell (R-KY) has prevented it, and SO MANY other good bills from getting to the floor of the Senate for a vote.
      Along the way Bernie was honored for his service as Man of the Year by two major veteran's associations--the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (in different years). When he ran for president in 2016 he still earned more than 13,000,000 votes as the relatively little-known junior senator from a small northeastern state. DNC
      Chair Debbie Wasserman Shultz at least lost her post for her shenanigans then, and Donna Brazile later apologized to Bernie, but.... Another high-ranking DNC official, Tulsi Gabbard (vice-chair, maybe) earned increasing respect for stepping down from her post in protest of what was done to Bernie...but the damage was done.
      Bernie's record of coalitions, his leadership re the issues most important to the 90%, his campaign energy, historic fundraising success and debate skill should have positioned him to be running for a second term today. Instead, Bernie with his following of national leaders and progressive leaders of the future has devoted himself again, as a true statesman, to educating our nation why Trump must be defeated in Nov., and why Joe Biden MUST prevail.

      Living in a society means you have to make sacrifices for the good of the group. That's the whole reason humans started living in groups and taking care of each other- it not only increased our survival, it allowed us to innovate and developed new technologies and medicine. the last 200-300 years has seen far more advancement of the human race than the hundreds of thousands of years humans lived before then. Having a society just works. If you do not want to make the sacrifices needed to support the people in your society and make sure that they *all* survive and thrive, then you don't get to live in the society. Go move to the woods and live on your own if you don't want your taxes to go towards the wellbeing of the group.
      It has been proven time and time again that it is more effective to put our extra resources together and dole them out to those who need them, than to have every person on their own.
      Can you even name a country that has policies you agree with that you would want to live in? The happiest, richest, safest countries tend to be ones with progressive policies, and I would be surprised if you could name a first world country that has more conservative policies than the U.S.

    I don't need to be American to admire Bernie Sanders, a true patriot that has his people's best interst in his heart. Twice he could've been, twice he was snubbed, yet no shred of bitterness or cynicism but only willingness to build bridge and work things out. I wish we had politicians like him.

    • @esobed1
      @esobed1 Před 4 lety +3

      @@locoloco2703 Since we have a current Administration that is actively trying to rig an election., yes, but under certain conditions. It wont be common citizens burning down the White House however... It will be far more elegant.
      If Trump wins, even by a narrow margin, you will not see leftist militia groups storming state houses... you will see peaceful (at least, unarmed) protest akin to Belarus. The same cannot be said about a narrow margin win by Biden, the Right is more prone to potential organised anti-government violence.
      (Ruby Ridge, ranchers on federal lands a couple of years back, Q anon: classified as a potential terrorist group. Also consider the numerous armed Right wing militias out there as well. Far more organised than BLM could ever dream of being... and unlike BLM, armed to the teeth!)
      However, if Trump looses by a significant margin and tries to stay in power claiming a rigged election...
      He and anyone who would stand with him eventually WILL FACE FEDERAL TROOPS, sanctioned by the oaths taken to defend the Constitution. Troops with both Liberal and Conservative political orientation. This is an already established fact (Powell, Mattis ... numerous others). Formal modern officer training is given with an emphasis on history (the Civil War) along with particular bias towards the rule of LAW. Do not stray too far left or right... and DO NOT violate that Constitution, sacred oaths are not to be played with.
      So, understand, when the average person on the Left makes a joke about smoking the prez out of the White House, it is an obvious joke. But when a sitting President and his supporters makes claims that defy democracy, and then, takes actions flagrantly towards those ends. Somebody will get out of there... one way or, sadly, another.
