After working for an MSP for a year these videos are far more interesting and easier to learn
Lucky you how'd you get in
Same! I work at a Datacenter and we use all these connections so it’s great reminder and great way to solidify your knowledge!
I have access to the network closet at work, I'm gonna go in there and see what I can learn!
Why are punch down blocks used in the first place instead of just plain feed through blocks? Isn't plug and play just easier than punch downs? :E
Guess it's easier to have direct connection instead. Maybe it allows seamless transition to swap to new hardware while keeping the wiring for the area in check.
It depends on the application. Typically punch downs are used to transition from the physical cabling to end user accessibility. It also makes reworking/ rearranging physical infrastructure easier.
When you're wiring a multi-story office building, punch blocks are vital for managing or modifying long runs - especially when you're dealing with dozens (or even hundreds) of connections.
