Harley Davidson handle bar and riser install, 2020 FXBB Street Bob.

  • First of all, I'm sorry I didn't get more of the wiring and the control or grip install. It was a frustrating long process to learn how to run the wires correctly. I used tie wire and electrical tape to run all the wires. It is a lot to run them through the risers I got, don't get discouraged they will fit.
    I got 11 inch Forbidden Motorcycle risers with the heads up display (HUD) in the bar clamp. The bars are also Forbidden Motorcycle but are made by Fly MX.
    With 11 inch risers and 3 inch rise on the bars, the brake line is noticeably tighter, but the only cable or control that needed a extension was the HUD. I got mine from Guerrilla Cables.
    I used Lucky Dave's Bushings, upgrading the bushings is critical for stiffness on taller bars.
    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, if you have any questions ask. I feel like there is a lot I learned that didn't make the video.

    • @harleyhelphintsfxbb3684
      @harleyhelphintsfxbb3684  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yeah, they are the OEM bolts. And yeah I believe I used the tip of the vise grip to get ahold of the smooth part of the bolt so I didn't mess the threads up. When you put them back into your riser set up you don't have to torque them, just a little past snug, the nuts should hold them in place. Hope this helped

    Your bars measure out to 14 inch did you have to buy any extensions?

    • @harleyhelphintsfxbb3684
      @harleyhelphintsfxbb3684  Před 9 měsíci

      The only extension I had to buy was for the hud since it was at the top of the riser. All the cables and switches were long enough. If you do a different riser you can place the hud somewhere where you won't need a extension, but it all depends on your set up

      No stupid questions here man, this page is all for help! Before I swapped my bars I did the same thing. You don't need to take the clamp bolts out just loosen enough to move the bars then re tighten. You'll be able to tell if the bolts back out because your bars will get loose. If they back out you can locktite but I wouldn't worry about it for a small adjustment like that 🤘

      Without looking at it I couldn't be for sure. Double check your battery connections, check the fuse box, make sure all the connections are secure and wires are in the plugs properly. I'd be leaning towards a fuse without knowing. And I hate to bring it up, but there is a chance the wires got pinched and are shorting out on the risers or bars. But double check the connection and make sure everything is in the right spot. Double check the battery has voltage too. Let me know if you do all that I can do some more digging and try to figure it out with you

    I’m doing my bars next week - I ordered 12 inch pull back risers with moto bars that have a 2.5 inch rise so about a total of 14 inch lift. I did order a full cable extension kit for the throttle wire, ABS brake cable, turn signals and HUD. I know I’ll definitely need to use the HUD wire extension, but do you think I could get away with the stock lengths on the rest of the wiring? Or should I just use all the extensions that I got? Just don’t know how confident I am at extending the brake line and throttle cable myself. Any tips?

    • @harleyhelphintsfxbb3684

    • @harleyhelphintsfxbb3684
      @harleyhelphintsfxbb3684  Před 3 lety

      I think you'll be fine not doing your brake line, and the throttle wire extension shouldn't be hard that's a easy system. My blinkers are maxed out with the 11inch rise and moto bars, so depending on your exact setup you will probably need the wire extension just by a little bit. Having too much wire is better than being short, but you can always run the old ones before you open the new packages to see how long it sticks out, I'd recommend the throttle side blinker as a test run. Best hint is be paitant and don't take short cuts. Taking the wire ends off is a pain but it's the only way with this style of riser.

    • @harleyhelphintsfxbb3684
      @harleyhelphintsfxbb3684  Před 2 lety

      Longer than I thought. About 4-5 hours, but I was figuring it out as I went. The hardest park is discounting the wire plugs and re attaching in the same order. Mark your wires and take reference photos. Also don't forget to disconnect your battery, otherwise you'll get codes. Easy to clear the code but it's better just to prevent it. If I had to do it again I'd be able to do it in 2 hours probably

      Double check all your connections, especially the start button. It's easy to get them mixed up. Also here's the video link for clearing codes. There are other comments with the same problem if you scroll through. Hope this helps.

      Hold the cycle button down turn the bike on and let it go through its cycle. Release and diag should display. Press the cycle button and it'll bring up the different sections for codes. If it has a N then there's no code. Press the cycle button to go to the next screen until you find a Y. Press and hold and it'll display to clear. I'll try to find a video for you. It's kind of hard to explain but once you do it it's pretty easy

      Check this. I would clear all the codes then if for whatever reason they come back you have two options. Take all the wires back out and check to see if you pinched one, or two take it to Harley. I cleared my codes at Harley and they never came back. So I could of saved time and cleared them myself. Don't stress, more than likely there's nothing wrong
