    That 12 valve is pulling that no problem keep on going!

    Cool video man, I've got a 99 2500 with a 24v and 5 speed. With 3.55 gears I won't be towing 20K but she'll see 10k sometimes. Have a kubota tractor and double axle tilt trailer. Mines got a 4 inch straight with a tuner, air box delete, and upgraded intake elbow. Planning on 50 hp injectors and a wicked turbo wheel. Thanks for the video, sounds good!

      You can tow 20k with 3.55.

    Cool video, it kind of reminds me of one of DieselPowerTV videos towing with one of his 12v's. You mention stock but it's obviously got some pump tuning though seeing the black smoke! :-)

    • @hoganexcavation1700
      @hoganexcavation1700  Před 5 lety +6

      Austen he makes some awesome towing videos with his. Yes I do believe it has had the pump turned up before I got it judging by the smoke under load. To my knowledge everything else is stock (injectors, turbo, etc)

      Black smoke equals unburnt fuel which is a waste of money.

    • @vcummins
      @vcummins Před 3 lety +1

      Old Diesel engines will blow black smoke to a extent. If you want to have a Diesel engine with hardly any smoke it’s gonna be gutless.

    My question is , hotshotting non-cdl with one of these, looking at a 97 5 speed sucks its only a 2500 and might need to swap in a dually axle but it looks like a good truck. i know it's half the torque of new but its way cheaper.

    Would you swap in another 4500 or would you go to a G56 or NV5600 for towing?

    • @hoganexcavation1700
      @hoganexcavation1700  Před 5 lety +3

      Keith Wolfington I like the 4500 but it’s feels like a long way in between gears and is a good jump when towing. I haven’t looked into a 6 speed swap much but if I needed a new trans and could do it for around the same price I think I would

    • @keithwolfington7013
      @keithwolfington7013 Před 5 lety

      SouthernKyCoalRoller I currently have a 47RE auto and have been heavily considering swapping in a manual transmission. And a NV4500 swap would probably cost me around the same as building up the auto and as far as I can gather would be a stronger and better set up all around.
      Thoughts?

    • @hoganexcavation1700
      @hoganexcavation1700  Před 5 lety +3

      Keith Wolfington my truck was actually originally an auto and was swapped at some point in its life (before I got it). It really depends on what you prefer driving and what you use the truck for. If you don’t mind shifting gears and are looking for pure reliability I would definitely consider the swap, especially if you pull heavy very often. A nv4500 with a good clutch is practically bulletproof. I’m not as educated on the 47s but from what I have heard they can be very reliable when beefed up. I have a friend with a 97 2500 auto who put 5,000 into the trans and has still been nothing but trouble. If you primarily use the truck to daily drive and do a lot of in town driving and not much towing, a built auto may be a good option. With the weight that I tow I wouldn’t trust an auto but if I didn’t tow i wouldn’t have a problem with it

    • @keithwolfington7013
      @keithwolfington7013 Před 5 lety

      SouthernKyCoalRoller see I know the new autos are significantly better. And I know you can go fast and what not with a 47/48RE. However I have no interest in making my 3500 1 ton dually go fast. Furthest concern for me.
      I do a lot more highway/back road driving than city. Though city does happen but it is kind of rare. Or it’s for a short stretch.
      Reliability and towing ability are two of my biggest concerns. I know a well built auto can be great. I know autos have a huge differing on what constitutes built too. Single disc with a shift kit and VB and some say your golden. Other say full built trans costing 4-6000. Even doing a swap to a NV5600 would cost significantly less than that depending on how much one got the trans for.
      I am extremely torn on the subject for a lot of reasons. The biggest on being I have a 24V and while I have a FASS and my VP and I have no worries of it going out. I would love for the VP to by my one major concern. Not an auto shitting the bed.
      I don’t have a lot of experience with a manual. And the majority of it was on a tractor vs being in a vehicle. So if I was to venture down the auto to manual swap path, it would come with a significant amount of learning. Though I do know people who would be more than happy to help me build my proficiency.
      I guess for now I’ll continue to comment on videos trying to get opinions until I finally make my mind up on what I want to do. Because my biggest cross roads right now is replace the auto before it has the chance of going and possibly get money for it. Or replace it when it blows.

      Keith Wolfington I know what ya mean man. Me personally when I’m pulling or driving back roads I wouldn’t trade my 5 speed for nothing. Every now and then when I’m in traffic with it it can get annoying, but that’s not very often. All together I don’t think I’ll own a automatic dodge unless it’s the newer aisin transmission. I also just enjoy shifting. Just have to decide which is best for you

    • @hoganexcavation1700
      @hoganexcavation1700  Před 5 lety +3

      AD101 yes it does. And the nv4500 transmissions have pretty good jumps between gears. More than I would like when pulling heavy. 3rd to 4th is not terrible but 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th is a pretty good jump. I usually rev out to 2500 before shifting when loaded like this

    • @hoganexcavation1700
      @hoganexcavation1700  Před 5 lety +10

      Bailey Miller on roads like these in the video with no middle lines(barely wide enough to pass oncoming traffic), I wouldn’t take it over 35-40. 2 lane roads with lines I probably average around 50 when not curvy. Never over 55. Don’t usually pull this kind of weight on interstates nor do I like to but I have and 65 would be about the max I would be comfortable with on a truck like this. Driving fast with it is not a problem, stopping with it can be.
