Shout out to bassist Gerry McAvoy who accompanied Gallagher throughout his solo career. He had a total rapport with Rory and provided rock solid backing at all times.
I am so grateful that CZcams exists so that a whole new generation of people can discover the greatness of Rory Gallagher...man he was like a comet streaking through the universe...a six string angel screaming down from dimensions that like him, are timeless...
I’m 22 and I found him by accident after listening to the doors on Spotify and I was just mind blown by his songs. I never realised how important he was either and his role in music.
He truly was something else. Just absolutely, totally awesome. Played a lot of what may sound like your typical blues based rock of the time, but he always added something of his own. I notice it now more since I began playing guitar myself. Though in comparison to Rory, I'm not really playing guitar. I'm playing with the guitar. Gotta start somewhere though.
@@crazzybiscuitzz7807 and if you listen to his live recordings here on CZcams you'll quickly realise that he seldomly plays a song the same way twice. It's all in the moment. I saw Rory back in 73 I think. He opend for Deep Purple during the Machine Head tour. He absolutely brought the house down. As a matter of fact after Deep Purple finished their encores the entire audience were screaming for Rory to come back on. Sure enough he did and prceeded to blow his opengl performance away!!! He was approached by the Stones as Brian Jones' replacement, but declined. I'm mostly glad he did, but if he had accepted more people might know him now. Then again it didn't do much for Harvey Mandel, another underrated guitarist who played with them briefly.

I knew of Rory, for a couple of years by then. I had his '72 European tour Album i had bought in 1974. Became a Huge Fan! He blew away Trower and Tull that day, playing on top.of his Amps, and running around on Stage. Very tight band. He had 100,000 people on their feet that day!! Many elite players cite him as a major influence and nobody has anything unkind to say about him... his appreciation of and love for his fans was legendary.
Brings a tear to my eye every time I watch a Rory video, a magician with the strat, can remember last concert of a tour at Newcastle city hall late 70"s, what a night,
I wish we had this time, today. Just having fun together with simple things. Music is balm for the soul. Humanity has evolved into something terrible. R.I.P. Rory Gallagher thank you rory for your wonderful music.
I saw the taste in 67 or 68 at the Woburn or Windsor festival cannot remember exactly but it was their first gig since arriving from Ireland he blew me away still play him now at 72 your never too old to listen to Rory.
I probably hold the record for seeing Rory in concert more times than just about anyone else - maybe 300 shows or probably even more. I also got to know him and he was very, very special. My only regret is that my own kids who were only small at the time never got to see him because they were just too young. I often tell my kids they don't know what they missed - he was really something. When you saw Rory on stage, you just knew that you were in the presence of greatness and frankly, it's very difficult to describe the experience to anyone who never got to see him. He was mesmerising.
I saw Rory Gallagher for the first time at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney 1980, watched his pre show sound check with an audience of 3, ( including the theme from Rawhide ), during the show some guy jumped on stage in the middle of Shadow Play and Rory blocked security from getting hold of him , ( while playing ), he let the guy sing the song and gave him a hug, after that show I bought tickets for the second performance the following week. They remain the two best shows I ever saw.
K Mac I also was privileged to see those gigs as a young man. Absolutely blew your head off. Energy level like I have never ever seen. Crowd was totally engaged and into it from the first note to the last. Brilliant.
Adam Weitzmann you posted this a year ago and I just happened upon this video of the late great Rory Gallagher a few minutes ago. I wanted to tell you that I know what you are saying, the first time I heard Rory I was hooked but the first time I saw him live in 1975 I was in awe of this guitar slinger and his passion for being on the stage in front of an audience and you are correct it is hard to describe to someone who has not experienced it themself.
Rory doesn't need any so called hall of fame ,He is and always will be to all that heard him something that something special that erupts within their lives and provides a sound that is so joyous, so full of life that enraptures their soul. Over 50 years after first seeing him at a concert with Taste I am still so enraptured. Surely that is the mark of a master. I loved you then and even though the years grow long since you left us I love you still. For me you will always be the man.
Was 18 just legal to drive and my dad gave me the car to get a bunch of us to a gig in the National Stadium on SCR Dublin. 50 years ago and I remember as a crazy brilliant night. Rory was a special one.
A Brian May interview with Sammy Hagar brought me here. I am amazed by Rory, never really saw a video, heard a song or two awhile back and never really listened. My mistake, this guy is incredible.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I've never heard of this guy before now but happy to have "discovered" him thanks to an interview with Jimi that I just read. Man, this guy left it all on the stage, wish I had seen it live...
I was born in the late 50s and grew up surrounded by music. My parents listened to what they liked and my mother was a trained pianist. I started playing a real guitar at 10 but switched to bass at 16 or 17 & still play. I remember hearing his name throughout the 70s but never knew anything about him or his music. At 64 i am just now hearing all this. Kinda lame of me wouldn't you agree ? He was definitely THE one unsung hero. I'm just now learning how important he was and still is to many. I definitely have a new favorite guitar player. Oh well. Better late than never. . It was the 70s though and drugs were abundant and there were so many genre's of music. Started playing in a band at 17 and a neighbor of mine my age was heavily into Hendrix. He could play much of his music note for note. He's still in the biz along with very talented brother's and I do not remember him ever mentioning Rory. Strange !
I bought 'Tattoo' in 1974, as a tape, and although I can't remember why, I played it til it fell apart. I'm 71 years young now, and still listening to RG, 10 Years After, John Mayall and so many other great musicians. What a time that was!
I saw him in the early '70s at the Orange Show Pavilion in San Bernardino, CA. He opened for Deep Purple and Fleetwood Mac(before the women joined). Phenomenal guitarist and showman who loved music. Made me smile. Or maybe it was the Mellow Yellow I ate.
Rory and my mother are cousins, a lot of the Gallagher’s are ridiculously talented musicians. My oldest brother is in the category of being a really talented guitarist but never became famous, played Glastonbury once with his band ‘all talk’ in the early 90’s . RIP Rory!

This is what made this guy outstanding, his songs are never played the same way twice. There are always little different things thrown in to keep it fresh, the sign of a true musical genius.
Fucking Incredible. I was LUCKY enough to see Rory one time live. Had front row in front of the stacks. He played for 2 1/2 Hours and the volume perforated my right eardrum. I've seen Motorhead 50x and Never had my eardrums damaged.
Hold on a moment, I'm a real deal Rory &Co. fan and proponent but the one time I seen Motorhead in Cleveland Ohio Dec 1983. I was far away past the back row at the Variety theater and felt the bass bouncing off my chest. They had to pull the plug on them because plaster was falling down from the ceiling. Also played that night were Queensryche and Twisted Sister. 9 years earlier I seen David Bowie but was seated close to the right tower of speakers. My ears rang for many days. My point is how close we are to the tower(s). Imagine being close at Woodstock? RIP Rory!
Greatest musician ever, in my opinion. He really loved what he was doing and it shows in the end result of all his albums and live performances. Rory was a one off who i loved listening to since i was 15 and now i am 59 and still appreciate this great guy - i love this man - genius is a light word-thank god we had musicians like him.
Shin Kicker is perfect to open up a gig. He did this many times. So everybody knew what to exspect for the next 3 hours. 150 percent pedal to the metal. We`ll never forget you for this, Rory.
I miss Rory, wish I got to see him more than the nine times I did... but I got to meet him after seeing him at the Whiskey in LA. Never forget that night RIP my friend.

Always had the time to talk to the fans...Brian May (Queen) has a great story about Rory Gallagher. He could have been a star and chose not to. RIP Mr.Gallagher
I just added this to my playlist to be played at my wake. When I finally "spit the bit", I want all of my friends to rock out! This cut embodies all of that spirit. If I could show someone just one cut of Rory's music, I'd play this.
Rory gallagher was never underrated he was the guitarist that every aspiring guitarist / maestro wanted to be! he left behind a legacy of music that even the most accomplished performers still strive to be even likened to,
Another guitarist possibly the best i have ever seen is Frank Marino check him out he has been around since the early 1970s from Montreal Canada some of his tunes like Babaylon Instrumental Johnny be Goode and many more this man is truly something to see.Take care
This is probably his best live moment, although as a live performer he was untouchable,I just love these 5 minutes,he just loses it,absolute genius, there are so many great live performances by him here, this is just my personal favourite

Don't know where you've been but we were rockin with Rory in Detroit back in 70s! Helluva concert!
Rory played small venues and College towns constantly. Here in Missouri, everybody loved him, we never could figure why he didn't get huge.
my guitar hero forever
Meiner auch!!!!
Me tooo 💯 Rock Star Rory Gallagher 💯
Awesome music 🎶🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
You can see Rory loved that guitar, and it loved him back! RIP The Big One!
Rory didn’t need accolades his music was a gift to the world and being underrated was a blessing for everyone who saw him close up and personal 👍
Rory .....legend and John McAvoy in cruise collection .... LOL
Possibly the greatest of them all.
This absolute masterclass performance by Jesus Gallagher is one of my favourite videos to watch on CZcams
Rory was a complete master of his craft , I was very fortunate to see him live a couple of times and he was the best , I got the feeling I'd witnessed something really special , RIP Rory
Rory the best no one comes close
Ditto saw him twice also. The master, so special.
This is what made this guy outstanding, his songs are never played the same way twice. There are always little different things thrown in to keep it fresh, the sign of a true musical genius.
The lyrics aren't even close to what they're supposed to be but who gives a shit? Best version of Shinkicker, says me.
Incredible!! Truly amazing!! Unmatched!! Gone too soon 😢 Pure talent👍 SO damn good!! Fly high, guitar angel. Rest in power🎸
Awesome performance!
RIP Rory!
I've watched this so many times and it always makes my heart race and puts a big fat smile on my face. WHAT a star
Ich lächle Jeden TAG !!! EVER !!!! RORY THE BEST !!! RIP
Greatest musician ever, in my opinion. He really loved what he was doing and it shows in the end result of all his albums and live performances. Rory was a one off who i loved listening to since i was 15 and now i am 59 and still appreciate this great guy - i love this man - genius is a light word-thank god we had musicians like him.
listening since i was 11 ...57 now still love his music..seen him live in 78 and 82...he was fantastic
He was beautiful... R.I.P., RORY!
I,m just discovering him now ,what a treat for an old rocker like myself ,Alex lifeson talks about him ,thats how I heard of him . That boy can play!
Fantastic. A Mark of the best guitarists is their live work. This is Rory at his best, the song is called shin kicker.
Best guitarist ever
. .that's 100% pure unadulterated , organic , heart felt ROCK N ROLL...thank you for posting this ❤️
No explosions,no strobes, just in your face RnR 😎
Shin Kicker is perfect to open up a gig. He did this many times. So everybody knew what to exspect for the next 3 hours. 150 percent pedal to the metal. We`ll never forget you for this, Rory.
So many best performances
I miss Rory, wish I got to see him more than the nine times I did... but I got to meet him after seeing him at the Whiskey in LA. Never forget that night
RIP my friend.
Because of him i gotme an AC30.. Because of him i gotme a Strat 🥹 Because of him i became a Pro. Because of him i sit now in my place in Torrevieja,Spain and Play until my Fingers hurt ,my Back aches and i sweat!! I am Not gigging anymore..and i am 72 and haven't changed ,Just got old following His and Jeff Beck 's way to squeze every drop of my blood Out of my Strats ☹️
They dont make entertainers like this anymore. A true Journeyman, humble, loved his craft , wouldnt compromise anything and he close to his audience. Always had the time to talk to the fans...Brian May (Queen) has a great story about Rory Gallagher.
He could have been a star and chose not to. RIP Mr.Gallagher
Irish talent at its best
saw the man a couple of times in the famous Glasgow Greens playhouse awesome
I just added this to my playlist to be played at my wake. When I finally "spit the bit", I want all of my friends to rock out! This cut embodies all of that spirit. If I could show someone just one cut of Rory's music, I'd play this.
I just love this guy. He makes you realise what a guitar is for!!!! I can,t keep still when he plays!!!
touched by the hand of God, and in the pantheon of Rock n Roll guitar gods, Rory is deity supreme.
Rory gallagher was never underrated he was the guitarist that every aspiring guitarist / maestro wanted to be! he left behind a legacy of music that even the most accomplished performers still strive to be even likened to,
True, even Jimi Hendrix acknowledged his greatness!
j whitehead 💐🕊😇
Another guitarist possibly the best i have ever seen is Frank Marino check him out he has been around since the early 1970s from Montreal Canada some of his tunes like Babaylon Instrumental Johnny be Goode and many more this man is truly something to see.Take care
I'm from Montreal...seen both...I would hate to have to choose one ...both are/were amazing guitarists
The greatest guitarist no one comes near
I can't fathom someone thumbing down such an electric performance.
Gerry is a beast on the bass
Still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck...pure magic from Rory and the band...cheers.
The greatest guitar-player ever !!!
This is probably his best live moment, although as a live performer he was untouchable,I just love these 5 minutes,he just loses it,absolute genius, there are so many great live performances by him here, this is just my personal favourite
Untouchable,what a performance!
