    I wish I could erase Rory from my memory, just to have the chance to discover his music again. It was a freezing snowy morning when I first listened to Moonchild on the radio. I had skipped my Calculus class and I was having a coffee. The owner of the coffee shop told me the name. "Oh, him? He is Rory..." I went straight to a music shop and bought "Stagestruck" because it had Moonchild on it. I'll never forget tht day in my life.

      @lindadote Před 6 lety +7

      Randico Enrico Gonzalez Jr. .....nah, some of us have *always* known and loved Rory and “fame” is precisely what he steered clear of. Rory did however, tour Europe constantly and had sold in excess of 30 million albums *before* he passed away and *before* newer and renewed interest. It was the States Rory had hoped to crack but he only enjoyed a “cult” following there despite repeated tours. It’s only in recent years that his popularity has increased there but he refused to “sell out” saying he could “write a hit song but did not WANT to”, Rory was the real deal. As for the camera, yes, Rory was the obvious star, you’ll notice his fellow band members stand back, that’s why - it was Rory’s time to shine.

      Now what i need to tell. I was born in Germany came to holland in januari 74. I was pissed back then due to the movement to Holland but than it came on to me .the city was Geleen south of the Netherlands pk..until 86 from 69 they ve had this festival called PINKPOP
      look it up it still exists and even more.
      Due to the fact that the fest gotten bigger and bigger they moved on down south about 40kl. From my place. Fact is that Pinkpop, of which I had the chance being a part of especially thruout the 70ees.lol. man it was magic in 74 .I was just turned 13 and got a ticket from my other
      My first year.you can guess I believe still know the better acts
      One was Rory Gallagher .the place of happening was a normal bikers round up in the cities park.so stage still quite improvised ok.theres a picture on you tube with Rory playing beneath a sheed of linnen with the words
      Pinkpop 74
      Other major acts were cpt.beefheart steelers wheel and others I will never forget in those 70ees years seen all or a lot of the old bands .manfred mann with his nightingales and bombers he Spirit in the night . Thin lizzy van halen you name top bands back than 👌
      Love and light from Holland.oh yes I believe telling that Pinkpop was taken up in the 2000ers years in the guineas book of records the only festival ever kept returning ever-increasing 69

    Montreux Jazz Festival July 5, 1985. One of the best performances I've ever heard. Moonchild is an amazing song, and Rory Gallagher sure knows how to play the guitar. But let's not forget Gerry McAvoy. His bass playing is quite deceptive, sounds simple, but it isn't. He played with Rory for twenty years, and on this recording every note he plays is exactly what should be played. Not too much, not too little. Supertight backing for Rory with Brendan O'Neill on drums.

    He never sought the adulation and limelight. He just wanted to play and enjoy and bring joy to others.
    He is my all time number one just ahead of Johnny Winter who was just an ace behind and then Randy Rhoads.
    He was taken too early.

    Great version of Moonchild. Although Rory sometimes doesn't make the top ten in some global guitarists lists, he is acknowledged by those who followed his career and also by all the other top guitarists. The following comments are attributed to Slash: "He's one of the guitar players I got turned on to at a pretty young age. Nobody else I knew was really too hip to him, at least in Hollywood. But then they were sort of all into Randy Rhoads, anyway. Rory didn't sound like anybody else. There are a million guys who sound like Stevie Ray Vaughan, but I never heard anybody who could really pull off sounding like Rory Gallagher. He had a very individual, independent kind of tone and approach and everything. He's always been a big hero to me."

      I think the best EVER quote was by Jimi Hendrix, back in 1970......who when asked, whats it like to be the best Guitarist in the world, replied......I don't know, go ask Rory Gallagher.......That says it all, methinks........

    • @rockhardrockmetalpop
      @rockhardrockmetalpop Před 6 lety +8

      Those who compile top ten list´s truly don´t know much about guitar playing. There is no such thing as a top ten...thousands of guitarist´s are equal to the task of playing at the ultimate level...Rory was awesome...so much passion and never did he sell out like so many others. R.I.P.

      n13roy ......that’s a myth that has unfortunately taken on a life of its own and is now being documented as fact. The interview where Jimi was asked this is now on CZcams yet still this continues. I’ve heard of at least 3/4 guitarists who Jimi supposedly cited as the best.
