This is profound. I don't know if I would score fully for an ADHD diagnosis, but I suspect I at least have ADD. I can relate to the mind being this "vinyl record skipping a beat", god, it is almost the only thing my mind does, all the time!
And it could be relatable to me being adopted, and from early hours to months of my life being handed over to different foster homes before finding what became my parents (as it has been retold to me). I think this at least drives many of my anxieties today, and only recently have I been able to connect it to also this attention deficit that surely goes back some time (but might also have other origins from other traumas later in life).
Thank you for this enlightening episode Enid, it reminds me that my intuition on this matter actually isn't wrong, but tells me a lot about some troubles I've had.

Hi, Jani R. Thanks for watching and commenting.
It _is_ the case that adopted children seem very much to be at markedly higher risk of having ADHD. (Or of developing it epigenetically, according to more fringe theorists about the disorder such as the -- depending on your point of view -- brilliant and maverick//gonzo physician and author who himself has ADHD, Gabor Maté. There's a citation in Maté's book 'Scattered Minds: The Origins and Healing of Attention Deficit Disorder' that, if I remember correctly, puts that increased likelihood at an astonishing 20x.)
I'm really glad you're getting something out of my foray into ADHD stuff on the channel. I wasn't meaning to 'go here' initially, and am still not entirely sure it was a good idea!
By the way, just to be a pedantic pain in the ass: 'ADD' and 'ADHD' are used more or less interchangeably these days, with the full nomer 'ADHD' being the slightly more current terminology. 'ADD' is still respectably making the rounds, however. The latter means to signify the same disorder as ADHD but with the hyperactivity component no longer or not ever to have been in evidence.
(Though all the core symptoms and the subjective sense of racy, 'all over the place _inside_' mental tempo is the same for each -- the so-called 'combined' subtype per DSM [in which hyperactivity is behaviorally evident in the person via leaping around and/or, ahem, pronounced talkativeness, and 'inattentive' subtype per same [in which the person's disorder has everything else in common with the other except they have a more daydreamy, 'space cadet' presentation].)
