In my high school, there were the cool druggie skater punk metalhead goth kids, of which I was one, and then there were the nerdy goth kids with their anime and D&D and never the two did meet except in passing. Goth is a mindset but also a fashion, nerd is more of... a way of being and acting. We just didn't really get along with those other kids. I mean... we kinda bullied and fucked with them from time to time but it's not like we beat the brakes off them or anything.
And they just kind of kept to themselves/mingled with the quote unquote normal nerdy kids. The stoner metal goth kidd, hell, we got along with everybody. Preps, jocks... I was on the basketball and football teams, in fact.
Anyway, sorry for rambling, tldr ok boomer, etc etc.
Point is if you whine about gatekeeping there's probably an actual reason why somebody who is established in a culture/subculture doesn't want another person in particular interfering with it. You're probably weird, gangly and socially awkward. Work on it and do better.

I disagree. Us Trekkies love ST despite knowing ahead of time that ppl will make fun of us, call us nerds, geeks, etc. But we could care less about what others think, and fly our nerd flags with pride.
Goth ppl’s entire persona is based around the ‘not like other girls’ / ‘you don’t get it cuz you’re not cool like us’ troupe. So I don’t think that really qualifies them as nerds. More like hipsters with a lot of black eyeliner.

Bauhaus did not, in any form or fashion, invent punk rock. Ramones, The Damned, etc. were years before them. And goth shit is very nerdy haha

Also the bands Death, Sex Pistols, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Minor Threat, all had major contributions to Punk and helped it evolve during the late 1970s and early 1980's
Siouxsee and The Banshees would probably be the closest Goth band that influenced Punk Rock as she hung out and was very close with both John Lydon(Johnny Rotten) and Sid Vicious however her band was still uniquely Goth.

I have multiple goth friends who love star trek. I once dated a goth chick who was huge into star trek way more than star wars. She loved Bauhaus, fisting, and Picard. These worlds aren't mutually exclusive anymore. My ex roomy who was goth would listen to Cradle of Filth and play WoW. Sh*t is all over the place nowadays.
She sounded like a keeper dude but yeah people can like other things outside their subcultures I've never understood why people hate on other's happiness or Interests it's wack ribbing each other is one thing but just outright hating is dumb.
I’m a high school teacher. You’d be AMAZED at what is cool now a days. Also anti-bullying has worked to some extent. There is still bullying but it’s not for the weird shit you’re into. It’s just straight bullying for bullying sake.

I've been a D&D nerd all my life but you'd NEVER guess it by looking at me. I'm a gym rat, fashion-smart and since my teens was always seen in clubs and hangin with the "cool kids". Early 20's i did some modeling work. Literally all gfs i had (and my current one actually, lmao) were shocked when i'd mention i like fantasy art and reading Conan and Lovecraft books and shit like that. I also never, ever wear my glasses in public. There's 2 lessons here: Never judge a book by its cover and nothing is what it seems. Everybody is "awkward" in one way or another, some just hide it better than others.

Are you kidding? I"m neither a Star Trek nor a Star Wars nerd, but the 1960s Star Trek series had loads of hot chicks. Where are your eyeballs? Also, football jock boy, I ran cross-country because I was too small for football at the time, and our football team was the best in the city, if not the state. I put on bulk running 10 miles per day 6 days per week, and ended up on the first string because I came in 7th out of 200 in my first race. By the way, at my school the football players respected the cross-country runners, and vice versa. Dork.

I'm 40 years old. I was in a heavy metal band for 8 years and I proudly rocked the full on heavy metal goth look. The spikes, the all black everything, the tats, over 30 piercings...
I would still happily rock this look today if I could, firstly, afford it (that stuff ain't cheap!) and secondly, worked in a field where a military based appearance and dress code were NOT mandatory.

Every group thinks they're better than the others. Goths, Trekkies, jocks, computer geeks. They all have their thing and secretly or openly look down upon the other groups because they don't have the special thing that theyve found. Truth is they just have their own special thing.
