What really bothered me hearing Ke's story is that if his work on Everything Everywhere All at Once is any indication, we as a film loving public were robbed of 20 years of potentially incredible performances.

I feel like Adam isn't getting enough love in the comments. Hearing the way that other actors have talked about him helping them stand up for themselves (Terry Crews for instance) and how he's just a normal dad/guy outside of acting is just amazing. He genuinely cares so much about people
The host totally skipped on him with one of the questions and didn't get enough time to talk.
I feel like it's not too big of a deal? Because he's been on a roundtable before, think of it as a legend returning with different stars 🤷🏾♂️. It kind of does suck but it's great we got to hear from the other guys especially Brendan, Austin and Ke.

There was probably stuff left out of the edit, that maybe he was asked. He also seemed to be very quiet anyway, maybe to give others more room to speak, or maybe he was more comfortable listening.

Colin Farrell and Brendan Fraser are engulfed in this conversation. You can tell when someone is truly listening just by their body language. Brendan is about to cry at points in other people's stories and Colin almost looks childish in his wonder. What cool people.

Colin seems such a self-aware dude. As he ages, I like him more and more as an actor. Such a caring group - watching these guys intently listening to each other and really trying to understand all points of view, is amazing....
I would say the opposite! He seems to be the only one from the six who lacks self awareness. Just talks a lot of Hollywood nonsense like with each sentence he’s trying to say something so profound and clever.

@@petesmart1983 Not anymore. Diversity is being pushed full force and rightfully so. This is not the 40s and America is no longer white. The cinema must reflect that, and Oscars should be given accordingly. Every talented individual deserves and chance to prove themselves worthy.

Ke Huy Quan went from being a refugee as a child, to becoming an Oscar winning actor. He is really very inspiring, and he’s a role model for people who come from impoverished backgrounds. The sky’s the limit, you can do anything if you reach out and take it.
Thanks to the inclusivity politics he won an Oscar.

you can tell Brendan is such an empath. he looked close to tears at certain points listening to everyone’s stories. really enjoyed this round table. one of the best i’ve seen in a long time. no ego, no pride, just people sharing their lives and struggles with pure honesty. it felt therapeutic, for them and for us.

He really is. I knew very little about him and recently watched him being interviewed and i was just so impressed by his humanity and warmth.
I’ve said it before I’ll say it again, Brandon Frasier is too pure for this world, and he must be protected at all costs. It’s a rare gift from the Gods to get a human on this planet that doesn’t hold grudges when he has every right too always looks out for the people around him and only ever exudes humbleness and genuine kindness for others
I'm 48, and he was my celeb crush for over a decade...and he's still just as attractive 30 years later because he's just a great human. Don't know him personally, but it's obvious he's a great man.

@@DYA9091 For a lot of people, it isn't at all about pity per se. For those of us who grew up with his movies, seeing him come back s sorta like running into an old friend at the grocery store.
Colin & Brendan are so obviously into this entire conversation. It’s touching and beautiful. Also the humility shown by Adam as Ke is very special.
i remember when Fright Night came out, you could see it in his eyes in interviews. Dude knew he was getting a chance to come back and he was NOT going to act like he didn't care or that he was owed. He was ready to work cuz he appreciated the work and had seen what it was like to have it taken away.

When Jeremy shared what his therapist said, I had the same reaction everyone in that room did…nothing but value. The drive to push everyone away that Austin spoke about as he dealt with grief and depression…thats whats ive been doing for years. It was important to hear that the difference is he always did one more even when he was full of doubt.

That's kind of the theme of the whole discussion; always assume there's a reason why you should get out of the house, do the thing that scares you. It was a matter of hope against hope in several of their stories.

I think the beauty of this roundtable is how all the actors left their egos behind and opened up to being vulnerable. Talking about their insecurities. And I think this was in part thanks to ke huy quan, who from the beginning set the tone for how the dynamic of the conversation was going to be. His humble and very down to earth way of telling about his life experience, made the atmosphere relaxed and made everyone feel in a safe space to talk not only about the success or situations inside the sets, but also about the fears and moments that influenced their life. Also the interviewer takes part of the reward for this incredible interview, because he was able to navigate topics that can be uncomfortable and delicate for people in a very open but yet respectful way. Bravo!
Colin Farell is so exciting to listen to. He's astonishingly articulate, emotive and engaged that he makes any conversation fascinating.

Ke Huy Quan truly seems like one of the most genuine, humble, and beautiful souls in the world. All these guys are amazing, but Ke and Brendan, in particular, just strike me as so deserving of their success and happiness.
You know what wasn’t at this table? Ego, all of these guys who are at different points in their lives and careers have no ego. It’s refreshing to see, love how authentic and genuine they are. I wish all of them the best of luck and that they remember the advice they all shared. ❤

The fact Spielberg over the course of a most 40 years constantly wrote and sent Key a Christmas gift is incredible. That has to help your confidence, and say you know what I’m gonna do this again and never give up. Key was very inspirational in this.
Legitimately, that was heartwarming and his quote at the end about being patient were my favourite parts of the whole thing

yes i agree, when he first made it big wow he was like a firework and it went right to his head. as with time and maturity he is a deep thinking humble guy now, and its humbling to see all these guys each with their own trials and tribulations
He is on one of the best runs any actor has ever had in history. And I am so glad I am here for it.
I didn't know he had an accent. I didn't know it was him until I saw his name. Last time I paid attention to him, he was experiencing substance abuse, but he looks amazing now!

This felt like a therapy session in the best of ways, thank you to everyone involved with this production from the camera people, the staff, the amazing interviewer who let them all talked and asked such great questions and the actors who were vulnerable with each other and with us.
I was in charge of the marketing campaign for Elvis in the movie theater that I worked as when that movie was coming out and got to see a lot of behind the scene stuff, Austin was always so humble and you can tell he really respected everyone. I saw that movie like 5 times when it came out, each time had me sobbing and made me a massive fan of Elvis and Austin. People were still going in December to watch that movie or rewatch it.
I'll be watching the other movies!
I've only seen a couple of these and I feel changed every time. The creators somehow create the space and collect these amazing humans together who just open up. Each time I'm blown away and happy to see these people are human beings with feelings, doubts, courage, drive, etc.
I grew up with Brendan Fraser as a big action star. Very happy he is back on top.
It’s so sad that we were ROBBED of Brendan and Ke for sooooo long! It’s sad but beautiful at the exact same time. I really hope they both catch fire again, after these roles. Because the world and Hollywood DESPERATELY needs more of all of these guys! Their hearts, love, empathy and humility! Rather than the shallow idiots who have ruined the industry. Would be amazing to see a few movies with all of these brilliant and beautiful people together!

These roundtable discussions are phenomenal. In a world where everything seems empty and hopeless, they give people hope. Just seeing these guys down to earth and expressing their true feelings with the struggles they've been through is such an inspiration.
The juxtaposition of Ke's story and Colin's story is interesting to say the least. The fact that they ended up on the same table - finally embraced by millions of people, allowing them to embrace their craft while still caring about their audience is nothing short of a miracle.

Brendan being here is sweet. And Colin being an intellectual and sharing his thoughts “expectation is a dangerous thing” is such an insightful thought provoking conversation from him. Everyone at this table is great. This is perhaps the best roundtable in a while.
We all have idealistic views of how things will go for us when we're young and nearly everyone goes through the humbling before their 20's are over usually. Those that aren't humbled or don't learn from it are the ones that have major issues for the rest of their life and don't reach their full potential.

This was one of the most beautifully tender, tremendously inspiring, humbly broken conversations amongst men that I have ever had the privilege hear.
i love how kind Colin Farrell is. He's always backing up people around him. :)
At about 26 minutes, Ke starts speaking about his journey back into acting and the industry, and it is mesmerizing. At one point, a few minutes in, there is a shot showing ALL of the actors turning to him with full attention, completely rapt in his story, fully engaged and empathizing with his journey; his uncertainty, his nervousness, his doubts, etc.
What a lovely demonstration of the depth of human stories, their poignancy, and importance. Thank you for showing this.

And how engaged they all were, especially Austin, when he talks about the work he put in, just to get the audition right; a dialogue coach, a movement coach, an acting coach, etc. They ALL got it. And how Brendon, arm over the back of the chair, turns himself fully to listen to Ke. Lovely to see the support they all gave each other.

Most probably because they all grew up watching Goonies & Indiana Jones. He's kinda childhood hero for a whole generation.
I think Ke has demonstrated his willingness to be vulnerable about the challenges in his career, and self-doubt that is so relatable, and that is inviting the roundtable (and everyone he's interviewed with) to lean into truly listening and empathizing. I can feel how much this means to Ke, so I'm rooting for him!

I really loved the camaraderie, how supportive all of them were. Real admiration and respect. Even the body language... It's palpable the resilience in the room... I love all of them
Austin's "this friend" that kept telling him he should play Elvis... Vanessa Hudgens! This was such a great hour of fantastic stories and actors. Loved it!
I remember the interview where Vanessa told that story! They were together for ten years so that’s interesting he said “friend” lol.

I LOVE Colin's honest 'UGH', they're all so sweet and have hade quite a story to tell
I cried hearing how Brendan and Ke reconnect and support each other. Not to mention the amount of gravity and respect Brendan brings to light for the themes of the Whale and the COVID environment it was made. You can tell how into the conversation Colin is, how he even feels comfortable enough to lean onto the table and put his head down. Austin and Jeremy talk so much about respecting the truth of each of their real-life characters to justice. I am amazed at how much care they are giving each other. Amazing group of men.

Man, I seriously just had to hold back tears every time Ke Huy Quan spoke.. Such a humble man, and someone I grew up knowing my whole life. This was a great interview for all parties and just fun and super interesting to watch.
Bringing this specific group of actors together is the perfect blend of people who are all in very different points in their career. Brendan and Ke are making a huge comeback into the industry, Austin and Jermey are breaking into the big leagues with some critical acclaim and Adam and Colin are making shifts with their style of acting. It's a beautiful thing that despite them being at different points they can still all relate through their craft.

I didn’t realize how committed he was to doing his own stunts when he was younger. Makes you wonder if he would have walked away from the craft if he’d treated his body better early on. Regardless his journey is amazing and fascinating
@@CiviTac It wasn’t about his body. Look up what happened to Brendan Fraser man…he’s been through the ringer. Ex-wife drained his accounts. He was blacklisted afterwards and couldn’t get acting jobs anywhere. He tried to speak up about harassment, is why he was blacklisted. All of that during the time his wife was draining his bank accounts from every movie, stunt, and determination he’s ever had in his life. Hopefully now, he can heal and begin his new life the way he wants to. She didn’t “steal” the money, the courts allowed her to take almost all of it. California had very bad laws back then for men in his position, and he wasn’t properly protected from it happening either. The worst case scenario in a divorce, happened to him. Along with worst case scenario for his career as well. After that…there isn’t much left. That can really break you. However, there is probably much more to his story. I hope he gets his own film made about his life & career. It would be magnificent.

How great to see Ke again. As a kid of the 80’s I knew his voice instantly. I always wondered where he went and am so glad he’s back. Same goes for Brendan Fraser, I look forward to seeing what the future holds for them both.
Brendan Fraser seems like such a sweet soul! You can see in his eyes how much kindness means to him and how much he cares about people and their journeys.
Throughout this whole interview, all I can see is Brendan Fraser, and it makes me emotional just seeing how happy he looks now. Thank you The Hollywood Reporter for consistently putting out these roundtables for different types of artists in the industry.

There's never a dull moment with Colin Farrell around. The way he broke down the Alexander fallout in detail was soo hilarious!
Ke's got such a unique past with most of us. Even if we never heard of him, it's a moving story of him getting this role and accomplishing what he did in this movie. But most of us also grew up watching him in such iconic roles that he's a part of our past. It makes it that much better seeing his success.
I've met Ke several times. He's the most real, coolest dude on the planet. So happy for his re-found success, and acknowledgment....... Most deserving, Ke!

I thinK Brendan had early success but was sick of it, and then had Injuries. They all like Austin it seems. He's being quiet and humble. But Austin is very grateful too. He worked very hard and elvis is so loved. His portrayal made me cry at times. I'm 73 and grew up watching elvis so I know. He deserves the Oscar but I think Colin will get it. He has done some great roles. This one in Banshees I'm not too impressed with. It will be for his body of work. Austin is the one who is like a rocket going up. It's like Leo was. His career is going to explode.
When Ke won his Golden Globe, while he was giving his now legendary acceptance speech, the camera panned to some audience reactions and Colin Farrell looked like he was about to cry. I bet this roundtable conversation had a lot to do with that.
His personal name is two words "Ke Huy". His surname is Quan. There is no concept of a "middle name" in East Asian names.
@@RaymondHng it is perfectly acceptable to call the “Ke” as a nickname, at the very least. We have a lot of “John Mark”s in our culture that also have a middle name, but still just call them “John”. I don’t think Mr. Quan really cares, anyway.
@@XX2Media His actual Chinese name is 繼威 which is where his Vietnamese name _Kế Huy_ is transliterated from. 繼威 means "following prestige". If you were to shorten it to _Ke_ , you are shortening the meaning of his name to just "following".
I love Ke’s story, the fact he reunited with Chunk after 25 years & has all of these nominations that he earned… beautiful.

Everyone in the Industry or have met him says that he’s the kindest, humblest, most sincere and giving person they have ever come across. So he would have been a great addition to this terrific group of humans. Plus, even though everyone looks at him as the superstar he is. he’s had his fair share of tragedy and heartbreak in his personal life along with a string of poor movie success at the box. His resurgence didn’t happen until the first John Wick came out. So he would have fit in perfectly and had some great advice/ wisdom to share for the others and the viewers.

This is honestly one of the most wholesome things I've seen.
Every time I hear Brendan talk.... It is so fragile, like he is holding back a lot of emotions. And I have seen it in other clips where he does let his emotions go. I have the feeling that the duality of him returning to Hollywood and the appreciation he is receiving versus the experiences that made turn his back is so emotionally draining that he needs to constantly hold himself in check....
