    You covered it all. I have 1750 miles on my 2020 390 and I giggle every time I ride it. You said it, ride by wire does what you tell it and these bikes do not disappoint. Everything you crave in a motorcycle depends on how quick you can shift these high revving thumpers. I think I've owned about 19 motorcycles - all sizes but the Duke is by far me favorite.

    Beginners bike? Much better than that. I commute 60 miles a day on my 2020 (7500 miles 1 year in) and it never fails to make me smile. Best tool for the job, light, responsive and 78mpg, with two teeth less on rear sprocket and still fast enough for the motorway/traffic light grand-prix and London traffic.......I've been riding bikes since 1987, have bought, sold, swapped more than I care to remember from RD250LCs to VTR1000 Firestorms but this one is a keeper. My BMW F800 hates it as she ends up staying in the garage whilst I play out with the mistress. Same colours, mine has a top box and rack from Givi fitted, which is also excellent.

      Agreed, I've a 2017 and also went -2 teeth on rear sprocket (43T) having since gone +1 (16T) on front sprocket also. In hindsight I should of just gone +1 on front, it being cheaper/easier option.

      Hi there! Thanks for Watching!
      I recon if you test drive a model from 2019-2021 you will be surprised how much smoother it is. Although there was not many changes overall or no major changes perhaps, I think KTM did a very good job of refining and fine-tuning this bike over the years.
      So this one is very smooth ;)
      And yeah, all bikes are lean this days and are a bit twitchy at low RPM so making it a bit reacher would always be an improvement.
      I was teaching my own nephew to ride and this was his very first bike, and no issues at all, like for completely new rider.
      Thanks for feedback man! Appreciate it!

      Street Bikes World SBW Thanks for your speedy reply. I am sorry I incorrectly wrote 2012 when in fact my Duke 390 is a 2021 model. I am surprised you find the throttle response smooth as many reviewers comment about the ON/OFF throttle response. Overall I am very pleased with Duke the only other issue I have is the TFT display has condensation mist behind the screen and on one occasion the display disappeared but returned when I switched the ignition off and on again.

    • @streetbikesworldsbw5570
      @streetbikesworldsbw5570  Před 3 lety +2

      I see, hmm, interesting
      I tested 2020 model actually
      So perhaps 2021 throttle is less refined/ more for emissions....
      Will have to try 2021 and give you feedback
      But considering the overall power of this beast I would probably still call it smooth, some other bikes if they smoother are potentially more like gutless/no torque/weak/low power etc 🙂😉
      And this one has character let's say 😉👍

    • @miketran4289
      @miketran4289 Před 3 lety +5

      I agree 100%! The ride by wire throttle is BAD, It's very twitchy and lags a little which scares the hell out of you sometimes when it kicks in. I'm not a big fan of my KTM due to this as I'm a learner.

    Would you recommend Pirelli Rally Scorpions with an adjustable 46/45/44/43mm(?) WP front fork?
    (I live near lots of dirt roads and want a softer suspension.)

    • @streetbikesworldsbw5570
      @streetbikesworldsbw5570  Před 2 lety

      It would not be my first choice for dirt roads, but with appropriate tyres defiantly can do, and leave the suspension as is, it is soft enough but still good for the road and track, remember when new it is always a bit firmer but will soften a bit more after 2000-3000km. If you determined to change suspension to make it even better off-road then first kill the suspension that you get with the bike and then when time to do maintenance think again if you would rather replace it with something else. But better to get maybe the 390 adventure version if it is quite a bit off-road !

      @@streetbikesworldsbw5570 Firstly thank you for the sound advice.
      My initial reaction was to say that the suspension has softened quite a bit in the first 900 miles, and I have gotten used to balancing a bike that is 0.3" too tall for me. lol. IDK, perhaps I will slap the tires on it first and see how it handles the Rockies, if it bottoms out at all, etc... (I'm not going to break the bike, but I am going to push it.) Heh, had a 2019 for my wife since she found our 675 street triple R too intimidating. I thought the suspension was too soft and the bike was too small for a 200 pound six foot fat ass like me, the brakes were dangerously weak, and the clutch felt wonky and delayed. It was a lot of fun around town, not very good on the freeway going 70+ mph, not too bad for canyon riding at elevation here around salt lake (going up was painfully slow at times), build quality wasn't great, standard seat was awful, I've heard powerparts one is much better. I'm sure it's great compared to its small bike competition, and my impressions are probably affected by having a street triple R and a hyperstrada later at the same time as this little thing, actually it was more fun than the triumph around town, but definitely lacked higher speed stability. Maybe I'll revisit it since a friend just got one (we sold ours because wife decided to quit riding).
    Hoping to swap my hyper for 701 husky or 690 ktm supermoto now, having some second thoughts about 890 duke R (really wasn't a fan of the agricultural and edgy 790 that I test rode) or tuono 660.

      I ended up with a 2020 690 supermoto because it ended up being $2500 less than what the other dealer wanted for the husky which is basically the same bike. Kind of curious to revisit the 390 tbh, a friend just sold his, so I missed out on that one. The one we had felt pretty decent except power was kind of sad going uphill at elevation in the canyons around salt lake city, handling was great, brakes were terrifying at times. 390 is also the best looking duke. It just doesn't feel very substantial or safe, didn't feel great on the freeway at 80mph either.

      Все стандартные трубы плохо звучат, этот даже неплохо в общем.
