How did you learn Vegas?
I've been doing video production since middle school, and in Highschool I started using Movie Studios to edit with. I went to College for Video Production Tech and weren’t happy with the “industry standard” editors I used there. I’ve used VEGAS ever since.

I really appreciate you showing how the new tools work, not just that they exist. Thank you for that (including the not new layer dimensionality which I never used before).
Also if you haven't covered it the change in 20 that allows you to change the format of all text events on a track at once is a big improvement most users missed (it's not obvious how to do that in the text box with the bland gray icon on the right side). A short demonstration on that could be useful to anyone doing subtitles.

Is Vegas Effect improved as well? Is there any improvement for dealing with render passes from 3d rendering softwares?

Do photos show up smaller in video than what they are? My Vegas Pro 16 is doing that. I have vertical images but they are less than have the screen when in video? Im wondering if this version does that too?
Do you install the upgrade "Post Pro 21" in the same folder as the already installed version "Post Pro 20", or in a new folder? Un-Installing the complete previous version is almost imposible, because all the different tools and addons within the package.

Tech dive honest question. Has the crashing improved with vegas 21? Thinking about trying another program cause is so frustrating seeing a crash outta nowhere and loss of data. I would like to stay with vegas but the crashes are making me wanna switch. I currently have vegas 20

Man, Adjustment Events are cool but I have version 20 and I don't think I'm missing out that much, so I am staying with version 20.

is sony vegas still crashing just as randomly as previous ones? i use sony vegas 18 so far and that thing is crashing constantly. i have a very good pc so its not that. i used sony vegas since 13 and the only big issue i have with it is that it keeps crashing and crashing since day one. no matter the version. i am honestly considering to buy davinci resolve pro since that software only crashed once on me. but i dont like the editing timeline in resolve so i am still unsure if its worth to buy it or to buy vegas 21
Can you open Sony Movie Studio Projects (.vf) projects with Sony Vegas (.veg)?
I'm still quite happy with Sony Movie Studio 16 regardless of it crashing ocassionally, which seems to have lessened since I moved from an FX-8350 to a 7950x.
I really don't want, more I want less out of my video editor. less crap in the way, less fristration trying to grab tiny things, less stuff I don't use.
All I use are multotracks, fades on video and audio, and transitions.... but a whole lot of them.
I know Vegas pro will open .vf files and I'm pretty sure I've even done it the other way around too. Version numbers may be an issue of it's too many versions different, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear everything opens up with pro just fine. Yeah I can why you're crashes lessened. Certainly a hardware improvement! The older versions tended to have their issues at high loads and a lot of tracks can do that. Taking the picture off the events can help it, but it's harder to see what you're doing at a glance

having problems where vegas pro 21 isn't utilizing the video card during rendering so render times are 10x longer than vegas 19 for the same projects
Are you selecting the codec template with the relevant video card?
I just bought it on Steam, it doesn't have Mocha (we can just use plug-ins for that manually) but at least they gave us enough tools to edit video and includes Z-depth

Hey man! I have one HUGE question. Does Vegas 21 still lag when working on a extremely huge projects (with many many clips, text, audio and effects)?
I'm currently using Vegas Pro 18 and have to resort to using a new nested timeline per 5 minutes of a ready footage because of that. (or maybe something's just wrong with MY copy of Vegas?)

Don't forget Mocha! A huge addition to VEGAS, it now (all versions except VEGAS Pro Edit) comes with Mocha VEGAS! A game changer for masking and motion tracking.

@danielisapinto841and mocha costs three times more than Vegas Pro with mocha Vegas added to it, so you're still getting a great deal even if you don't need the other apps that are bundled with it.

I guess they still have not added the option the change the color to one WORD in the text yet? We can make one word with different font/size/bold but not color. It is to much editing and takes to long to make a differant word a differant color every 2 or 3 seconds using multiple tracks. I hope one day SOON they do add this option.

I just don't have £200 spare to spend on software. We get Blender for free, but have to pay 100's for Vegas Pro? If they asked a bit less maybe less people would install cracked versions.

I haven't been editing since sony vegas pro 12 when i was still in middle school but i want to get back into it now, what would you guys advice me to do ? Should i leave off sony vegas for the newer editing softwares ?
Listen, sony vegas is simpler and has a more user friendly interface, BUT, after effects and adobe premiere have a gui that is kindoff new to vegas users, but they have more functions than vegas like masking, rotoscope, supports same file formats or more, it has more plugins going for it, better support, and performance is a bit better than vegas

Just came here to see if Vegas Pro still in operation. Use to be crazy about it. One Day it just stopped working and was forced to work in Premiere Pro. I am still with Premiere Pro :)
I was trying to get a free version of Vegas but I couldn’t find anything. I’ve got no choice but to save up and buy 21 😂😭
19 for me was a waste of money , i dont know why but i have an issue where it just crashes (not responding) all the time , i start it up do about 5-10mins of editing and it will crash , alot of time ill start it up move 1 cut clip and crash straight away. been in touch with support for a year now done everything theyve told me to do and nothing has worked, didnt hear from them for about two weeks then get told they dont do support for 19 anymore , cant lie im ****ing ***ed off with them. they told me to do the trail for 21 and see how it is and for past 5 days no issue, so they better give me a deal or somthing cause ive been messed about and wasted money here.

Hmm . . . . I have been using Vegas Pro in versions 17, 18 and now 20 and I'm only staying with it because pretty much every other editing software is subscription only! And I'm not sure I want to spend years trying to learn a new programme. All the versions of Vegas Pro I have used have so many issues and bugs. I have an i9-9900k CPU with 64GB Ram and a NVidia 2080Ti video card on an SSD with Windows 10 - and I have to shut down Vegas Pro and open it again and reload the project just to be able to render anything! And so many crashes !! It's ridiculous to be honest. The latest version 20 when I load a project, it keeps telling me that it can't find a file - but actually it's there and if I just hit "ignore" the project loads fine with all the files!! Go figure! So you'll understand if I'm not crazy about paying out for another version right now! And Matrix software keeps sending me emails about upgrading to Pro 20 - even though I have !! For the moment, I guess I'm staying with Pro 20 because it's what I know how to use and I just have to put up with the crashes and shutdowns. Sorry to talk it all down, but actually the best and most effective editing software I used in the past was MOVIE STUDIO HD !! Ah well . . . . Lee (UK)
Crashes are usually down to media that VEGAS doesn't like x the GPU. Make sure your iGPU is doing decoding in file io and if it's long GOP, variable framerate, etc. convert it with a tool before bringing it into VEGAS.
@@rsmith02 well I’m afraid I have no idea what you mean! The footage is mp4 filetype captured using ShadowPlay in NVidia. Imported into Vegas Pro then edited on the timeline. Graphics card is an NVidia GeForce RTX 2080Ti card

@@fx-studio Yeah but the new masking features are something I could use as it's really bad on 18 and doesn't follow your tracked object like it does in 21.
@@Grid21 Although I have Mocha I rarely use it - AI is just on another level these days.
@@fx-studio Yeah and it's scary as all get out, and only good for 0.1% use cases, like video for masking, for example. Otherwise it's useless.
i upgraded yesterday, wish i hadnt. it takes so much longer to load, and sometimes crashes doing simple tasks. Cant say i had issues with the last two updates on vegas 20 . playback runs flawlessly, no lag when grading etc. only time i ever get playback lag is from reversing a clip. regardless the slow load up and a few crashes now is really annoying especially when i wont ever be using the new transitions, effects or even mocha. I thought 21 would have been an improvement over 20.... nope. hopefully the next patch will fix these issues.

Thank you for your comment. I found v20 to be an improvement over v19 in terms of stability (fewer crashes) although it did take more time to load and I had to increase the assigned RAM size. As you can imagine, stability is extremely important to me. The AI-based mask detection feature is intriguing, but for most of my work it wouldn't matter that much.
When I finally install everything on the new computer (well, a year old already, but I've been busy) I will have a better idea of whether to take a chance on upgrading to v21.
Interesting, I only saw a slower loading time the first times I loaded it now it's the same as 20. For crashes no difference- usually none but sometimes quite a few (it seems to really not like masking with pan/crop with multiple tracks underneath).

By now I Vegas Pro whould have been better, but it is still laggy especially when text is added. Filmora is for better, no lag at all. They never get it right.

The Render speed in 18 is just fine, and I am sure it's even better in 21. It really comes down to ones own computer I think up to this point.
Render speed, while important, how much time does on spend rendering compared to editing?
Magix extended the development team by specialists for the video engine. In the next updates you will see some big improvements in stability and performance.
render speed is no problem for me. im rendering 10 minute films in 5 minutes tops. my issue is the one step forwards, two steps back, then waiting for 3 or 4 patches to get things resolved.

I am planning on updating, but I also wait while others start finding issues. After a patch or two, that is when I buy. But for me, VP20 has been rock solid. I beta test for a major (very major) plugin company and do the testing mainly in Vegas. Not one crash doing wild, crazy, push to the limit effects. But the same can be said for Davinci Resolve Studio 18.5.1. But I much prefer editing in Vegas.

Mine constantly does weird stuff. Specifically with the audio. If I try cutting audio clips I record with OBS it starts not showing my header in the timeline when the video plays, sometimes just locks up and crashes. Especially if I try adding multiple plugins. I think it has something to do with me using an Apollo Twin interface but I really don't know. Would be nice if 21 ran smoother. I have found 20 to be kind of a pita. All these dumb pop ups in the beginning and then one that comes up to tell me the program is crashing. Like what good is that?
