- Hey Scrappers! Josh here with another VEGAS Pro 21 tutorial and in this one I'll be going over the new Smart Mask effect. It's an AI driven way to mask out detected subjects automatically. Essentially it acts as an automatic Rotoscoping tool but not as customizable as it has the potential to be.

Would you be able to update this tutorial for smart mask 2.0? It's wildly different and I can't get it to give me an output, creating the mask wrecks the mask for example
I'm glad to see Vegas get the smart mask feature, I've only recently emigrated to DaVinci because of their smart masking feature, hopefully Vegas will improve as you say in time, but for now, I think I'm going to try and grind it out with Davinci, or i might still use Vegas, and just use certain features in both

Saved me $149 upgrading, stick to Vegas Pro 19 while the smart AI stuff is worked out better. Question: do you know if the Colorizing tool is improved in any way since 19?
The only issue is it doesn’t stay with the cut out like as soon as I scrub the footage it just stays in one spot. It doesn’t stay with the image as the video plays 😢 so it’s pointless
I agree. It's not fully usable in real-world scenarios yet. This is just officially a starting point. It can only get better as time goes on.
2:27 Marvelous. You move the mouse on the main timeline, and the timeline adjustment in the window in the “mask” plugin moves synchronously. It is very comfortable. It doesn’t move there for me, it’s extremely difficult to work. The mask is very poorly defined.
I don't get the rectangle after clicking analyze. Anyone else have this problem? If I continue to the end it does create a mask but without the ability to correct since the outline does not display, the result is all over the place masking face, shoes, arm ramdomly.

hey, just got my xt4, the clips from it wont play in vegas, just the sound, i guess because its mov?

Any idea how to increase the detection box? like its a square and it cuts off edges and doesnt seem to detect outside the box, can't figure out how to adjust.
Any tips for when Vegas Pro 21 crashes when anaylizing Smart Masking and having it track things?

I don't know why they don't use davinci resolve method when you mark what you want to select and it's trying to select the whole thing for you.
They're working on making this effect do just that.

Well apparently VEGAS has fixed that for this version
i9 13900k and rtx 4090 & 64 gb ram & 3-1tb ssd's preview is stutter / lag free even on best quality during preview playback with many effects, and render is blazing fast compared to older versions. Your comment is definately a user hardware issue and not vegas coding.
