    Great video! I love my Guardian Designs wheel, but that Zymexx looks fantastic too.
    The torque specs for the 21 mm nut is 30 - 36 lb.-ft. I also recommend leaving that nut on a few threads when pulling the steering wheel to avoid the risk of popping yourself in the face.

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Před 4 lety

      Thank you! I appreciate the torque spec and that's great advice!

  • @GA-wq8xq

    Remember the Guardian design includes a core so the cost is similar and you get to keep the original wheel.

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Před 4 lety +2

      Fair point there. After much debate, I still chose to send mine back and get the core charge refunded because I know I will never want to use the OEM wheel again (after using the Zymexx wheel, the OEM feels quite bland and disappointing). Also, I likely won't get more value out of selling it private party or keeping it with the car compared to getting the core charge back.

    By the way, do you know how to make it so they the steering wheel has a bit more resistance or heavier. It's a personal opinion but I'm used to cars with heavier steering wheel and I don't like how light the one on the Miata feels when taking consecutive sharp corners of trying to hold a very long corner.

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Před 2 lety

      Get your car aligned to Flyin’ Miata’s specs. It added weight to the steering and made it much more direct/responsive

    How did you get this steering wheel without the 12 o'clock indicator on the wheel? I did not see any options for that

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Před 4 měsíci

      I was talking to them about the wheel and I think they had asked me if I wanted it or not, and I said no. I’d reach out to them and ask!

    Do you know if it’s possible to get a steering wheel for the nd that has heated steering?

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Před 2 lety

      Great question! Theoretically it is possible, but would require wiring in a switch to control it at the least. I'm not sure if any of the aftermarket companies make one with a heating function, and that would be quite a project to do yourself!

    Is this steering wheel noticeably smaller than the stock wheel? I find the OEM wheel too big.

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Před 2 lety +1

      No. There are probably some smaller options but this is the same size as OEM except it is thicker so it feels much nicer in your hands (in my opinion) and it has a flat bottom that does give you a little bit more leg/knee room.

    Hey man how are you? In another video you said you got the zymexx yokohama steering wheel….this is the same one? I cant find it online, do you have a link by any chance? Thanks

      Doing well, thank you! Yes, the one in the video is the Yokohama wheel. You can find it here: zymexx.de/mazda/mx5/nd/interieur-nd/zstyle1-yokohama/

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Před rokem

      Thanks for bringing this to my attention! It’s the Yokohama model steering wheel by Zymexx, as the description says. Here’s an updated link for it: zymexx.de/mazda/mx5/nd/interieur-nd/zstyle2-yokohama/
      There’s 3 variants, the only difference being the color of the stitching. I hope this helps!

    how do you find the new wheel did you consider alcantara>?

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Před 2 lety

      I think I just looked for them online and eventually came across that one. I didn't want alcantara because that material seems to wear and get gross if it's touched by hands or bare skin often.

    What is the point of changing the Steering Wheel?

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Před rokem

      Personal preference. I find the stock wheel to be too thin and has almost no contours for grip. It feels very generic and unfitting of a sports car that’s all about driver engagement. This wheel and others on the market improve the look and feel of the steering wheel. But again, it’s a subjective thing. Some people like the stock wheel and there’s nothing wrong with that. Same thing for any modification really, the purpose is what the owner is looking to achieve with it.

    Interesting video, I have a club. But you have a 30AE so you should leave it as factory speed since it is rare, and should be unmodified.

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Před 4 lety +6

      To each their own. Factory spec is nice, but I'm all for modding my cars and driving them how they're meant to be driven. My car will never be a 'clean' or 'pristine' example so I am okay with modifying it to my taste and enjoying it like that.

  • @qwertzu555
    @qwertzu555 Před 3 lety

    The guy filming himself and prating on endlessly about how it should be done. But when it comes to SHOW how it's done, which is why video is used, he just shows very short clips and even fast forwards. For the difficult parts you better find other instructions.
