I adore The Last Unicorn. I had the movie on VHS as a kid and watched it ao much the tape broke. We even played the theme song at our son's funeral. It's the story that taught me how stories are meant to go.
I got to meet Peter when I was volunteering at Worldcon in 2019 and he was the sweetest, most genuine man you could imagine.

Beagle is a master of his craft. The way he wrote the beginning about the unicorn and time is one of the best ways to describe how an immortal being might think. There is so much sadness to it. Will have to check this out!

Just started reading The Last Unicorn and I'm seeing why people love it so much. It's sweet, moving, funny and wise all in one. Also the descriptions and worldbuilding are fascinating.

My mother read the first paperback edition of _The Last Unicorn_ when it first came out, and I picked up the selfsame volume and read it for myself when I was a teenager, and it's held a special place in my heart ever since. I never knew there were sequels. But I did hear that Peter S. Beagle has an entirely new novel that just came out this May: _I'm Afraid You've got Dragons_

Coming back to this because I didn't know there was a sequel!

Peak Peter Beagle for me is actually Tamsin, in no small part because of sheer awe in the craft: I don't think I could capture the experience of being an awkward American teenage girl that well, and I was one.

I believe the film animators, at least some of them, also did work animating for Studio Ghibli. The design of the unicorn really does look like it came out of a Ghibli film.

Sort of, Rankin Bass outsourced most of their 2D animation to Japanese studios. This included Topcraft which was where Miyazaki made Naussica. When the studio dissolved in 1985 about half the animators formed Studio Ghibli.

I really looked forward to this book, and I was not disappointed. The second story, Sooz, in a strange way reminded me of the last episode of The Leftovers. Because I thought of these two follow-ups in the larger context of The Last Unicorn, it made me recall how that TV series whittled down the number of storylines until you got to the last episode. It makes both the ending of The Leftovers and Sooz feel so melancholic because these much larger stories that came before got bookended by smaller, personal tales.

I had NOT heard about this, but it is finally getting me to buy and hopefully read the original book. I've loved the film all my life, and it's only become more and more poignant as I've gotten older (Molly Grue for life).

I enjoyed this one too, although I was unsure what to expect from a Last Unicorn follow-up! I kind of love that this review went up the same day I happen to be starting Beagle's new book "I'm Afraid You've Got Dragons"! Hope you're doing well :D

I try to get my hands on everything he ever published (one of my favorites being an obscure roadtrip from the 60s, "I see by my outfit", which he signed for me at WorldCon 2019 in Dublin), although it's not easy from Germany (lots of older works being out of print or profetering his terrible ex-manager). This one I skipped being under the false impression it would be stuff I already know (aka Two Hearts and bits of old Unicorn drafts). So I'm delighted to hear about Sooze's new adventure and ordered it immideately. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!

I only came to the move of the Last Unicorn in my 20s, as it was one of the girls I was at uni with's favourite kids film - i'd never heard of it, I don't think it's that well known in the UK. Just from your intro and saying you read the book in your 30s, I'm now inspired to check it out - I kinda assumed that your love of this book came from your childhood too so wondered if I'd passed the age it's worth reading it at, but I forget that there have been a number of children's books i've enjoyed as an adult, but usually those with deeper themes - The Giver springs to mind, as well as The Ocean at the End of the Lane from Gaiman. Thanks, i'll be putting both of these on my list for when I've finished my Masters and can actually read for pleasure again!

I loved the Two Hearts. I thought it was a beautiful way to wrap up those characters. They all went onto more after the book, and we get the sense of how much they did and lived. Yet all things come to an end and this gave us that sense of ending without making me feel like it was the ending of everything. I thought it was appropriate that the girl was then the main character of the next story. The world isn't over, but the first story was, and she carried that feeling of passing the torch I felt well. Her adventure was different but still important to the characters involved, much like the original story. I liked that the vibes were similar but not quite the same. Like a new generation of stories. I always felt like Beagle knows every moment of all the stories, but is sharing only the ones that should be shared.

I got to meet Beagle at a showing. Two of my most prized possessions are signed copies of the BluRay and Novel. I hope it wasn't on the tour where his manager ripped him off. All I know I handed my money directly to the assistant behind him.
Never read this one but I will have to seek it out.

I watched the movie when I was probably too young for it, but loved it. I have the book now, too, but I think I love the graphic novel version best. The artwork is just so gorgeous. I'm eager to read Peter S. Beagle's new book, I'm Afraid You've Got Dragons, at some point in the near future.

I have always thought. That if there ever was a live action movie or movies about this book series.I think if it or they were done in the style of The Chronicles of Narnia or the Lord of the Rings series. That it or they would be a massive success.
