I personally believe that when the rune that "Groudon" was supposed to be born from was just drawn incorrectly and that the slight error caused a horrible mutation, creating a mindless being that hungers for organic matter, assimilating it in a vain attempt to "purify" itself, and that the only bit of Groudon that's actually there is its vague appearance of Groudon. That's just what I think at least.

Maybe if it devoured jirachi and actually digested it it would become a real groudon
The whole virus groudon felt like an homage to the headless forest deity sequence in princess mononoke which was also caused by human greed and selfishness which negatively impacted the environment around it. Trees and animals died whenever the gooey tendrils of the decapitated night walker touched them as it looked for its head. Pokémon basically did a family friendly version of that entire sequence (since nobody died)

I've always loved that the anime was willing to do crazy off-the-wall stuff like this. The idea that a creature like that could exist in the Pokemon world is awesome.

I remember watching that film as a kid and being surprised why virus Groudon was never in the game. It would have an amazing final boss for a post game villian and better represent the environmental message of RSE

According to the ORAS Pokedex. Groudon is 11ft tall. I don't think that's right.
Game and show have different sizes, Groudon is 37ft in the show
The old ruby game's Pokedex has this feature to compare the trainer's and the pokemon's size. And you would look like an ant compared to Groudon.

I guessed that it was because the machine hadn’t finished. Max and ash saved jirachi and butler’s little beacon just stopped, leaving the incomplete pattern of a Groudon, which mutated to the virus Groudon we know

Honestly, I have a weird love of virus Groudon. This monstrosity was just so viscerally wrong and haunted my dreams and imagination for years. I've always been interested in incredible morbid strange things, but man did this make it so much worse Xd

It’s cooler than primal Groudon
This Groudon will forever hold a special place in my heart. A friend of mine once wrote a whole fantasy story about me as a king, my then girlfriend as my queen, my school yard friends as servants, my hobbies making up the primary design of my land, and even some bullies as the antagonists, one of which was able to do what this Groudon did in a very scary part of the climax; spawn tendrils and absorb all my friends, and only I could save them and restore order to the land. I was 10 at the time, so this was an absolute magnum opus to me XD And this Groudon inspired one of the best parts of that story. So thank you, nightmarish hell Groudon! :3

I've been a Pokemon fan for 15 years. *cracks back* ..*mumbles to self* Pokemon is for everyone. I watched this when I was a kid. Im 25. Ive watched every movie, and played every game. I was saddened that they didn't put it into Pokemon Emerald. Or any future Pokemon games.
I remember when I was super little, I used to go to this game store and always get pokemon games. One time the store was playing this pokemon movie, and one of the employees saw me watching it intently and bought it for me. I watched the whole thing at home and loved it, and how terrifying it was. Idk where is now but I'm pretty sure I memorized this movie.
I thought that corrupted monstrosity was a figment of my childhood imagination. Something I must have dreamed up. Seeing it again is...

Yes Virus groudon was definitely bigger than either of Groudon's forms: OG Groudon is only 11 feet high, with primal strangely being only 5 feet higher.
Hell Virus groudon is probably bigger than the gigantamax pokemon, since most of them are under 100 feet, with only a few exceeding it, it was likely around centiskorch's giganta length (which is 250 ft or so)
This movie made Flygon my Ace for over 15 years. When this came out I got it and ruby on my 7th birthday, and the scary Groupon eating everyone terrified me. But seeing the Flygon scenes where it did more than a salamence and pikachu and basically saved the day, made it, and Absol my favorites in every game since.
Somehow, i started thinking about meta/virus groudon again today.
Back when i was a kid, i didn't know that much about Pokémon, at all.
But now, knowing more about it.
This "fake" Groudon is absolutely terrifying from almost every perspective.
The amount of destruction it did in such a small amount of time, i'm not sure if any other mon could've restored all that damage. (Maybe Zygarde could do it, and even finish the fake Groudon with Core Enforcer, but geez.)
Imagine if when False Groudon would have been born in Pokémon: Jirachi-Wish Maker, the real Groudon would have shown up from having been nearby.
Would Groudon and False Groudon have tried to interact with each other or would they have fought each other as soon as they would have met face-to-face?
That would be such a cool fight

when i was younger i actually loved virus groudon. i've always loved weird scary stuff, especially with giant monsters. i also loved armageddemon from the second digimon movie.
i used to call it "Nightmare Groudon". though now i call it "Shin Groudon".

It's highly likely that both this groudon and the uh. corrupted celebi from the celebi movie were heavily inspired by the god in Princess Mononoke, the Studio Ghibli film.

I always thought it was because he used a contamined sample in his rush to be proven right rather than making sure the DNA was pure and complete, resulting in whatever microorganism infecting the sample being used to make the mutant Groudon

There are terrifying creatures in movies or games (like the red bull in "The Last Unicorn" , Hexxus'es 2nd form in Ferngully or Virus Groudon in this movie) that give me the vibes of true fear. I don't know why, but I love that kind of creatures. ❤️

The galarian legendary birds aren't actually related to the original. They're just called Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos because they look like the original. Like Alolan Vulpix. Personally still dislike it, and I don't know how in the world they got Articuno from the Galarian one, but okay. Also sorry if that sounded rude, don't mean to be rude.
1. The anime really shouldn't be taken anywhere close to seriously when it comes to Canon, since they really just do their own thing when it comes to lore. The perfect example of this is the recent season Journeys, since they made Ash's Dracovish a happy-go-lucky pokemon who likes to swim
2. The Galarian birds aren't evil, they're just assholes on a little bit of a powertrip. G-Articuno is cruel and cocky, but it doesn't pick on anything in particular. G-Zapdos is brutal and aggressive, but it only ever picks fights with things stronger than itself. G-Moltres is incredibly destructive and relentless, but only when something provokes it
In any case, the clip with Ekans saying "Pokémon do bad things because master bad" was made many years before Malamar even existed

This give me the "One Piece Movie:Baron Omatsuri And The Secret Island" vibe where the movie is happy story at first and ended up being a tramautized movie

When I saw this movie for the first time, and got to this part, I was so hype to see Groudon finally as I am a massive Godzilla fangirl. And then I saw it do this shit and went "WAIT WHAT".
When you added the Godzilla theme to this thing, I had huge HUGE flashbacks to being a tiny 8 year old watching Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla and having THE SAME REACTION when I saw Fake Godzilla. THANK YOU for providing this nostalgia trip 💙💙💙

Ya know looking back onto this video, I think Giratina's origin forme may have been a part to play to embody evil in groudon, hence the spikes becoming longer and tendril-like and the gooey and evil appearance, akin to Giratina being portrayed as evil in a place where time and space is fked up.
Still would have been cool if there was an arc in gen 3 were you could battle and capture evil groudon

I mean, the anime has questionable scaling(See charizard's size for details), and Groudon in general has always appeared much bigger in the anime than it actually is(According to its dex entry, at least.)
In it's base form, Groudon is 3.5 metres. For people who don't know metric, that's eleven and a half feet.
Comparing this to the Flygon onscreen as you say this, it is MANY times bigger than that, as Flygon is 2 metres(six foot seven.)
I would rather say, that games has questionable calling :P (I mean come on, Furret and Charizard with almost the same size?)
The more gigantic size of groudon in the anime makes much more sense so I would rather say that it's dex entry pictures it as smaller than he actually is.
Also I think that way more people doesn't know feets, inches and all these unintuitive units, than people who don't know metric (they are really such people? I mean metres are standard units, so rather everyone know it (or at least should)

I loved the movie and I found Virus Groudon a super interesting concept but I guess any big gooey monster was rad to me back then- Like True Chaos or whatever it was called in Sonic Adventure.
That thing always scared the shit out of me as a kid. Am glad they kept the cool eyes and mouth in the drawer for primal groudon though.

yknow... this really does beg the question: is it possible to create any other legendary just by obtaining the fossil? and does this imply Groudon was a common species before? because that'd explain legendaries a lot, maybe they were near extinct to the point one or two were alive when humans came around, and humans worshipped them as gods? Idk just spitballing but it's a cool concept, especially when you remember the ultra beasts, giant monstrous things that can decimate regions by themselves, are common species where they live
Groudon is the personification of the land itself, it's a pokemon that'd make no sense there being more then one of...
If anything Groudon was probably destroyed at one point and just respawned with a new body, and it was a shard of the remains of the old body that was used to create Virus Groudon!
@@ExcalibeonSwordofEeveelutions there is most definately multiple of most legendaries in canon, the weather trio arent the personifications of land sky and water, more like just ancient-nigh extinct species of pokemon that have great power and the ability to manipulate elements, in the anime, we've seen multiple regis, lugia, latios and latias, legendary birds, deoxys, rayquaza since we've seen both a green and shiny version, etc
the only legendaries/mythicals i can see there only being a singular individual are effectively gods of elements like time and space and all that jazz (dialga, palkia, giratina, arceus)

2. Trying to apply what occurs in the anime to the games is an immediate loss of credibility points, they are two separate canons so comparing them is like comparing Teen Titans to Teen Titans Go!
@@ExcalibeonSwordofEeveelutions This movie was an anime movie, and no it doesnt contradict anything as religions pop up all the time in the pokemon world worshipping pokemon, and there is a connection from games to anime, ash has been seen in the games (mimikyu pics in usum), and his greninja even appears in the games with battle bond, in usum, its stated that pickachu merch got popular 20 years ago and wouldnt you know it, ash started his journey 20~ years ago
