Rescue-9 hoist training Riverside City Fire Tech Rescue team.

Recently, we trained with the Riverside City Fire department in this scenario involved re-creating an actual call that they had had a couple weeks prior. A homeless woman living in this riverbed went into labor. The firefighters wanted to check and see what the feasibility would be to conduct a hoist operation in the future in the event someone else needs to be hoisted out of this difficult to access river bed. hoisting would’ve been a much quicker and safer option for everyone involved. However, being the true professionals that they are, they managed to safely get the woman to an awaiting ambulance, and off to the hospital. In a very strange turn of events, as the firefighters were waiting on the ground during this training event, a woman approached them and asked them what they were doing, “did someone get hurt?” They explained that they were practicing hoisting in this area because a woman had a baby here a couple weeks prior. The lady then says “hey, that was me!”
