So great! Was just watching your stuff while seeing this notification.
One found footage film I would like you to comment on would be Afflicted. Never watched the movie and I don't think I can, but would like to hear your opinion on it.
FINALLY someone covers this movie. I get why it was "just some movie" of its genre but I particularly liked it, because there ain't no horror like space horror
I love this movie personally I've watched it like four different times
I remember watching this movie, it was great
Seriously, it's a great movie
I just want my left in space to die alone conspiracy theory horror. Plz. I'll take it. Gib me.

Considering its low budget origins, it really does nail the 'look' of 70s apologies era footage. Very well done.
Apologies era?
@@SuperNuclearUnicorn sorry , meant apollo
@@SuperNuclearUnicorn just watch some conspiracist will support the idea it WAS an apology era lol
The budget for production design was well spent.
I was starting to think it WAS cleverly-edited Apollo footage, until I recognized the actor who stayed in the CSM.
My spine tingled with an intense feeling of “F**K THAT” when I saw the rock spider crawling about INSIDE the guy’s space suit. Considering the fact that these suits are supposed to be protecting the men, it’s so horrifying when the danger ends up INSIDE the protection
It is much more terrifying than when the characters remove their helmets because hey assume that having a breathable atmosphere means all is well.
Similar to the scene in life when Calvin breaks the coolant line of one of the suits and the person eventually drowns as the water slowly trickles up to the helmet due to the lack of gravity
The reveal of the dead cosmonaut was incredibly terrifying. It gets you to question why and how. It implies something far more horrifying than the initial discovery of a dead body on the moon.
There's a CZcams video (well it's more of a horror story like you can just listen to it while you're doing other things) called I know why we never returned to the moon series. It sorta does take that the moon isn't so desolate as it seems on the surface and ofc secret government cover ups and all.
Again it's more of a horror audio that you can listen while doing other things
Except that literally makes zero sense
“Cosmonaut”
And I just typed how it would have been better to have that.
1st act: world building+getting there
2nd act: find secret soviet moonbase, witness aliens attack, experiment and partially eat people trough a window
3rd act: find out that that was part of a deal between aliens and soviets
4rd act: survive
@@ChJuHu93 that what you just said almost straight out of the game "Zarya-1: Mystery on the Moon"
I was about to say that NASA is silly for having to go out of their way to debunk the movie. But then I look at the current state of things, with the flat-earthers and people thinking mermaids are real; I can see why they needed to do that.
Tbf mermaids existing is more plausible than the earth being flat

I've honestly always had a soft spot for Apollo 18. Moon spiders are a great idea for monster design and they're kept obscured enough from the viewer to make them really alien and menacing. 👌🏼🌕🕷️
Plus, I love the concept of using real life examples of mimicry that we have on earth and apply it to aliens. On earth, humans have the confidence to think they can deal with any threat (in most cases). Now take the scariest thing about earth animals and apply it to aliens. That confidence just absolutely evaporates
But it was done in the King short story The Mist that was published in 1980. They came out of a rift but the other worldly spider thing has been done before.
Yep.
Yup, big spiders have always creeped me out . So rock spiders that hide, sneak around and eat me? Well, there's my week of nightmares set.
@@skylx0812
Eh it’s rather different in Apollo 18 tho. King’s short story had what was part of an entire extradimensional ecosystem and it’s more so the environment clouding the inhabitants, rather than vice verse as we see in Apollo 18.
Apollo 18 will always have a special place in my heart because when I was a kid back in the late-80s/early-90s I had written a story about moon rocks turning out to be alien spider eggs, which hatched and ran amok in a NASA lab. Seeing someone make a movie years later with a similar premise blew my mind.
I think the scariest part for me was when The commander, Nathan, went on an EVA to assess the damage of the Lunar Module after it failed to take off, and he comes across a weird footprint, and reported “Were witnessing, what could be evidence, of Extra Terrestrial Contact.” then Ben the LM pilot replies “do you know what your saying?”, Nate responds “these tracks are NOT human.”
That scene line sent chills down my spine! It sends a wave of dread when he says that, typically In horror movies when the characters says it’s aliens, it’s feels so cliche, but in Apollo 18 it doesn’t, it feels REAL
Out of all the found footage movies I've seen. This is isn't as bad as most of them. Good plot and is scary in some parts.
It could have been a great movie. It just took too long to get to the point. Instead of going with the "space monsters are killing us" angle, they went with the "everybody's going crazy because they don't know what's happening" routine.
Yep.
Quarantine was the best in my opinion. I haven't watched it since it was released though so maybe time hasn't been kind to it but I remember it being the most tense and creepy found footage movie at the time.
And it’s on the fucking moon
@@longlivegarybusey6409 Grave Encounters was a fun movie. The sequel too. I enjoyed how meta it got.
I actually like spiders and this movie freaked me out. It wasn't that they were spiders but that it was a creature that could exist without water or oxygen was as hard as a rock and could possibly multiply excessively.
This and LIFE are up there with my favorite existential horror....and we need More!
The most confusing part about this movie was the disk-art. It depicted a Human foot-print on the Moon, next to a thin, sharp, almost skeleton-like footprint next to it...was their meant to be a more Humanoid Alien in this movie at some point? because if not, this was the most pure form of movie-clickbait I ever saw. I am fairly certain that the little Moon rocks couldnt have left such massive footrints with their small spider-feet. Anyone else been curious about this?
Not to mention they can also live in an atmosphere, so this species that evolved to live without air isn't bothered by an atmosphere either. And the ending saying some of the recovered "rocks" have gone missing is scary as they could be reproducing on Earth.
@@jakespacepiratee3740 False marketing sadly. I enjoyed the movie for what its worth but I know I'd be turned off by the false marketing if I saw it before the movie.
I honestly don't mind the space rocks myself. The unfortunate truth is I doubt there's a single alien or entity reveal that would have made people happy because at the end of the day the idea of monsters hiding on the moon in plain sight is inherently goofy. I'm just glad they didn't go with alien-robots that can cloak.
@@livingcorpse5664 Rock Lobsters.....the B52's were prophetic!
Ryan's ability to inject humor into something absolutely terrifying, is amazing.
"At that point, I don't care. Burn it all down. - Global warming has fucked us anyway, we might as well have two suns".
I laughed so hard at that it hurt.
I always enjoyed the idea of a space mission gone wrong, and it gets covered up. I love that the aliens are literally the rocks too. Genuinely entertaining concept.
The one thing that drove me CRAZY about this film is it's found footage, they film on 16mm cameras, *spoilers* all the astronauts die and they're very explicit that we Never Went Back to the moon. How did they develop the damn footage!!? Who found it?
Lol, wouldnt be hillourous if it was the Soviets that went up there and found the cameras? Mind it, if the Soviets DID make it to the moon and DID find the cameras there is no way in hell they would be quiet about it.
@@Pikeya you forget Cold War era ussr and us arms race tactics. they 100% would have hid it and made an effort to use them to get a leg up on the space race.
@@turkicnomad5632 unless shitting all over the usa is the leg up.
turkicnomad actually, the Soviet’s saw their space program mostly as a PR thing. They weren’t all that invested in the advancement of science or tech or whatnot, beyond finding cheaper ways to produce nukes. So, I think they absolutely would have used this to destroy American’s faith in their government
I'd just say it's a movie, it's not real.
I've always had a soft spot for this movie, it's horror, it's in space, its made to look like it's in older film and I like the way the audio was done. It's not a great movie but it's fun.
It's definitely one of those. It is very watchable and it is unique. So it scratches an itch other movies can't. Like imagine if the first paranormal activity was the only found footage horror ghost movie. It would be uniquely situated to remain on a watchlist. But that doesn't make any better than it is.
I never watched this film, but I remember the trailer being on the DVD of another film we owned and it absolutely TERRIFIED me as a child. I don't remember it having any mention of rock spiders or anything, I just remember it saying that Apollo 18 was sent up, and there was SOMETHING up there that kept them from coming back. Crazy how that sort of fear sticks with you
I love the creatures in this film because they don't seem like evil monsters, but more just dangerous animals
Like, imagine you're a moon crab that lives off of ice. One day a cosmonaut wandering around in your crater falls over and smashes his helmet open, and you realise these weird bipedal things walking around are full of water. Of course you'd go for the next ones you see!
That's one small step for man. One giant HOYEVER for mankind.
HAHAHA nice
That's exactly what NASA would say!
But seriously, I was 12 years old visiting my step-fathers family in the mountains of NC with my mother. I was thrown under the care of my step-cousin Taylor (18 years old) and his girlfriend at the time for a night. They wanted to go to the movies and actually asked me what I wanted to watch. I've always loved Sci-fi above all, so I said Apollo 18. His girlfriend wasn't down, but he was like a big brother and said, "Hey, he wants to see it, so let's check it out". We went to one of those low-key theaters in a small town that shows 2 movies at any given time and that was that. Even though I was 12 and not 13, we got in. I sit a row ahead of them so they can do young adult things like making out and hand-jobs in the theater, while I was enraptured. I was absolutely blown away at the time and it scared the living hell out of me (I also have arachnophobobia). When we came back to the family house I was in a bit of a terrified trance. My mom, step-dad, Taylor's mom and the rest of the family got upset when they found out what we watched, but I snapped out of it and defended Taylor by saying, "NO! That was awesome. Taylor bought me popcorn, soda and candy. We had fun. I love Apollo 18" and they laid off him. Still one of my favorite movie experiences, especially related to the memory of that whole night.
Now thats a good comment
That pitch black crater scene was very effective at scaring me, and I don't jump easily! Glad I saw it in theaters too!
I'm really impressed with the level of effort in recreating the Apollo mission space suits and Lunar module. maybe they found the costumes and set pieces from Apollo 13 if it's the same studio, but still they even got the hair cuts right and that goes a long way to sell authenticity of the found footage of a period piece. You usually don't see that level effort in found footage movies even if the story is pretty basic.
Honestly this film almost seems like it could work as the foundation for a more Lovecraft inspired film about a small group of researchers on the moon slowly discovering an ancient horror buried there, basically something like Underwater but on the moon with a touch of Alien
Local 58 comes to mind. Except there the moon seems to be a crypt, or portal, or oculus or something.
Like Galaxy of Terror but with an actual budget and also good?
@@TheBfutgreg Never heard of that movie, but I'm gonna say yes
Moons of Madness kinda sounds like that
Moontrap. Except that was more techno than eldritch.
I've always had this heartbroken feeling about both this film and the film underwater, not necessarily because I thought they were underrated classics or anything, but because on paper, these concepts should be amazing, and it really feels like if they got some more time in the oven when it comes to the script and general production, they could have been some of the coolest horror films in recent memory. Underwater especially, I'm really disappointed by how much of a misstep that film was.
Totally agree, went into both with nothing but underdog optimism and was crushingly disappointed by both (and this is coming from a guy who ADORED widely detested dark sci fi moves like Alien3 and Monsters: Dark Continent; they were both unrelentingly miserable to their end and delivered thoroughly convincing artistic statements as far as I'm concerned). Underwater for example, even just tiny artistic choices like ending on a pathetic acoustic pop song when the credits rolled after the tabloid headlines instead of, say, atonal industrial drone (say, like the HBO Chernobyl series soundtrack), utterly killed the mood and tone. These are absolutely basic film-making decisions that I was dumbfounded were chosen (that and the twat with the beany bunny).
@@ReleaseTheCanines Then the fact that the director just shoehorns in the fact that the creature at the end is Cthulhu. Come off it bruh
@@ReleaseTheCanines ahhhhhh so it’s simply another case of someone confusing their own personal opinions and biases with "poor quality". Sorry master filmmaker, sir, that the movies weren’t able to meet your standards, forgive us!
@@TheSCPStudio With all due respect, of course it is just my opinion which is evidenced by the fact that it was I who said it. However the director of Underwater has explicitly stated that that's Cthulhu itself at the end, thereby deeming it a literal piece of "Lovecraftian horror". Lovecraftian horror is defined as "themes of cosmic dread, forbidden and dangerous knowledge, madness, non-human influences on humanity, religion and superstition, fate and inevitability, and the risks associated with scientific discoveries". I don't consider there to be much cosmic dread in ending the film on an instantly-dated and relatively-upbeat contemporary pop song that totally ruins the mood for a film that made efforts to end in cataclysmic horror. Lovecraft fans have for years wanted a big budget genuine Cthulhu mythos movie, something that retains all of Lovecraft's moods of ancient evil and human insignificance; instead we had the Great Old One itself simply snuck into an otherwise mainstream sci-fi horror movie and sadly for the time-being we will still need to keep returning to more schlocky low-budget affairs like Dagon to somewhat channel the vibe of the original stories. IN MY OPINION, irrespective of any other faults I had with it, Underwater should have at the very least ended on a dismal dissonant musical tone as the press clippings appear on screen (something akin to 'The Door' from the Chernobyl soundtrack, or 'The Cellar' from the original Blair Witch Project), to leave the viewer with feelings of dread and terror rather than the almost comical juxtaposition of a bouncy pop song.
There's actually a really good creepy pasta on reddit that it's inspired by this movie that really proves what you said is true.
it's called "I know why we never returned to the Moon", if you guys liked this movie you definitely should give it a shot, there's also a part two that is such as good.
I remember when I was 10 I had various nightmares of me being on the Moon or trapped on a Lunar style Planet.
I hadn't heard of this movie until I randomly saw it on the "dollar movies" theater in my old town.
Had my mom take me to watch it and we both enjoyed it
Still one of my fondest memories lmao
I’m pretty afraid of spiders and honestly? The rock aliens don’t really freak me out because of it. They creep me out because of stuff like “hey they have to feed on stuff to live, but their body suggests they have predators they need to hide from, so what else is up there?”. I won’t dissagree about the spider-in-the-room type feeling the middle part of the movie has, though. Every time they go to sleep you’re going “uh oh. hope dywalien *the rock* johnson doesn’t decide to do anything…”
THAT WAS MY IMMEDIATE THOUGHT TOO 😂 I actually really like spiders, so my first thought was “oh… these guys are SUPER unlucky, but these aliens are probably just little beasties attacking an unknown threat/potential food source, they don’t know any bette- WAIT A MINUTE, WHAT ARE THEY CAMOUFLAGING THEMSELVES FROM!!!! ÓAÒ”
Dwaylien “The Rock” Johnson PFFFFT
"We might as well have two suns!" - I lost it here! Should have sent a couple Aussies up there, they seem to live fine with massive eight legged horrors!
LOL
This one is totally impressive, props to the special effects team to make it look like an authentic 70’s lost footage and a really photorealistic CGI. Could be interesting if this was a prequel for Cloverfield, kinda one of the creatures got to the ocean then feed on sea life until becoming the giant monster that attacked New York
I think the movie life was supposed to be a prequel to Cloverfield
I really recommend giving “I know why we never returned to the moon” by The Dark Somnium a listen (its on CZcams). Its the greatest moon/space horror story never filmed and its perfect for found footage film like this one. I always imagined the events of that story in this films astethic.
Is that the one where they find that portal and the main character has a friend that is disabled that went with through the portal. (I'm trying to be as vague as possible to avoid spoilers). If so, that was a great story, I reckon a follow up could work but it would have to a one off follow up.
@@CurtisMiller1995 No, its also 3 astronauts going to the moon and they also find a derelict russian space ship. BUT things take a paranormal turn and the story goes into a “The Shining on the moon”-type story. Look it up, im getting goosebumps merely writing about it.
Love creepypasta. Yes
I remember that one, it was pretty good
Oh yeah, I remember that one - easily one of the best space horror stories, if for nothing else because the creatures are so damn weird and scary
I think it would have been cool if they made the alien/monster part more ambiguous somehow.
Like present it in away that we don't know if they're really was spiders on the moon or it was all in their heads.
Maybe have one of the astronauts discover a recording on the Soviet Union module talking about how one of their own went crazy talking about aliens. Maybe that or a recording was accidentally left by a engineer, talking about how prior a few of the but not all US astronauts developed "space psychosis" and rambled on for days about monsters on the moon. Even astronauts that never left Earth and only thought they did or something...
I remembered watching this in theaters with my dad thinking this was an actual true story. It was honestly scared to death thinking this was “real” & it terrified me. Yeah, I don’t know why bought into it so much, maybe it was the same part of my brain that made me believe that “The Fourth Kind” was real. But I’ve wisened up to horror “mockumentaries”, but they’re still pretty fun to watch.
Great work Ryan!
A fear of the unknown is programmed into us, and that often means people believe dumb things that they're told are real. It's why social media is a hellscape for any kind of intellectual conversation. Lovecraft had a lot of issues, but he understood what humanity feared, on a primal level.
My personal favorite found-footage horror. It's a great example of how important setting and atmosphere is to selling the concept. It's not over-indulgent, it doesn't overstay its welcome, and most importantly, most of the tension and unease doesn't come from the monsters. It's just scary to be in that location with those characters.
some of those scenes with the spiders are truly the stuff of nightmares- reminds me to when you kill a spider that turned out to be filled with more spiders 😭
Yeah, thats my absolute nightmare; spiders filled with more spiders
I've always thought this was a forgotten gem of the found footage Era. if the atmosphere (pun intended) wasn't so saturated at the time I think this would have been a hit.
There's a foreign found footage film I watched recently called Heilstätten (Haunted Hospital). It was decent and went a few different directions I wasn't expecting.

Once they draw you into the found-footage nature, they can slowly break that without losing you. Adding "cinematic" elements, but if you bought into the found footage conceit at the beginning you can still be tricked into thinking it's still there. IF they don't overdo the enhancements.
Please do an episode on "The Borderlands", its British found footage that is effectively minimal until the end when the truth is finally shown. This one scared me to the core
I absolutely love The Borderlands! Really took me by surprise.
Not gonna lie, I thought you were talking about the Borderlands game series. Which are great games mind you but are the farthest thing from horror (unless we're talking about the horror of working with Randy Pitchford.)

For me, the scariest aspect of space is the idea of hostile aliens or black holes or even a fear of the unknown…
…it’s the isolation.
The “If I drift away, I’m going to die out here.” kind of fear.
…so pretty much the same fear I have of the ocean.
This movie was a fun time. The moon really is an eerie place
Yes! For the longest time I’ve had a vague memory of an ‘Astronaut Horror Movie’ floating around elusively in my mind, but I had thought I made it up or just thought it would be a cool idea. Thank you for elucidating me!
I remember watching this film with my best friend back in 2011, being 12 at the time. I still have fond memories with the film even though critically speaking it wasn't a big success at all. I however enjoyed the film and i will definitely re-watch it in the future, especially after your video Analysis peaked my locked away memory of the films existance!
“There's a reason we've never gone back to the moon” is such a great tagline.
This movie captures space horror aspects perfectly:
Isolation
Hopelessness
And mystery
The first time I watched this was very, very, very late at night (in fact so late it was really more "early") while pretty feverish and ill. I remembered thinking that I kept seeing rocks moving in the background of shots, but not being sure if I was hallucinating (and I'm still not entirely sure, honestly). It really ramped up that quiet, unnamable, dread. I sometimes wonder if the second half is ... "like that" because they were pressured into making it fit the mold of the shaky, glitchy, jump-cut style that was so popular for so long?
This is legitimately one of my favorite films in the found-footage category.
I love found-footage movies but realistically, they can be very difficult to enjoy because of the basic premise. No matter how you slice it, you're watching a final recording of everybody involved. There are never survivors that's why it's called found-footage. That becomes a challenge, especially when the movie takes place in a location that theoretically anybody can access. Look at all of the people that lived where the Blair Witch was filmed, the nonsense they've had to deal with ever since.
This movie however, puts the movie in a location that everybody's aware of, people know about it, but can't access it. I can go and travel to where they filmed the Blair Witch Project, I can travel to Italy to see where they filmed the devil inside, and I can travel through rural Louisiana and come across many locations similar to the final exorcism. I cannot however get any spacecraft and travel to the Moon. The most I could possibly do would be to go to someplace like Kennedy Space Center and view one of the lunar modules.
As far as the addition of audio stingers and so on, I did not find that to be a problem because the movie conceit seems to be that conspiracy theorists have managed to get hold of this footage and are trying to get the truth out. As a hobby, I love to watch and collect things about conspiracies, UFOs and believe me when I tell you that many of the people in that sphere when putting together what they believed to be a truth, they can't resist using musical Stingers and ominous notes.
About the only flaw I really have with the film is that like the devil inside it was tied to exterior sources. I absolutely loathe args and I really detest when a Creator uses them, because most times it's to generate clicks and to provide information that they didn't have the time, budget, or inclination to put in the actual film.
The only one I have ever tolerated is Donnie Darko, and even then that's because the additional material you can find on the website was very brief, easy to access, and included on the DVD release.
I think this film also probably appeals to people more or less based on how old they are. I grew into awareness around the time when the space program was still in high gear, and there was the Cold War to consider. So from a personal life experience I could resonate with some of the elements I was seeing. A younger person might not be able to draw that correlation because the Cold War is Over and the space program has essentially been over for decades. We also have the planet ringed with satellites and much better technology, so a lot of the concedes that you see in this film wouldn't be an issue. No different than seeing a slasher film from the 80s and realizing that a single cell phone would completely kill the plot
I aggrea, especially with movie ARG's, a lot of them fail to pull it off and when that happens it ruins the whole film. And this is coming from someone who is a fan of ARG content (hell my favorite game, inscryption is a multi-game ARG)
I loved how Apollo 18 almost tricked me into actually believing it was real. Very well done and it's for that reason, I had to own a physical copy for my movie collection.
this movie has such a soft spot in my heart, it came out when i was in the sixth grade and my best friend at the time managed to convince her parents to let her watch it. we had a school trip that week and she just told me absolutely everything that happened in the movie to my absolute delight and horror. thanks for unlocking that memory!

I saw this in theater too and I thought it was great! Really great idea, and delivered on being pretty tense! Glad you covered it, it deserves being seen!
I saw this movie while staying the weekend at a friend's house. There were 8 of us watching in the dark at 1 AM with surround sound watching it on a massive TV. It was great.
I have a soft spot for found footage even if it’s not the best 😂 I think one of the most interesting parts of this one (based off the video) is the sense of dread and isolation.
Thanks for these kinds of videos, Ryan! Your channel helped get me into horror movies and enjoy.
As a found footage horror buff this was definitely one of the gems I actually remember!
I've really enjoyed this movie. Great that Ryan is finally talking about it.
And I love just how simple, yet effective it's premise is: Two men go to the moon and discover that they are not alone. Forget about a cabin in the woods or anything like that, the situation just doesn't get more hopeless and scary than that.
I'm so glad I finally found someone to review this movie for the longest time I couldn't find it so I wanted to watch a movie review on it and couldn't find any!
To this day I've only seen bits and pieces but it looks so interesting an intriguing creepy all in 1
Hey, actually got a notification for this vid, nice!
Nice!
It's one of those films which would really benefit from a sequel. I wanted to see more of this story.
An interesting thing to note is that the moon crabs camouflage themselves as rocks. If they're the only life on the moon, why is that necessary? What do they eat? Maybe there's other aliens somewhere else on the moon and they are far worse than the moon crabs, hence the camouflage ability.
This is why a sequel should be made.
I vividly remember seeing the DVD for Apollo 18 at the library when I was young, and, being the dumb kid I was, I thought it was a documentary. Of course, I didn’t watch it, I just saw an astronaut on the cover and thought “oh, that’s real”
I am SO happy someone is finally acknowledging this movie! I absolutely adore it.
I remember seeing this with my brother and his friends. We called the aliens “moon crabs” and then named our group in Rock Band after them haha
Not sure which ff movies you've covered, so here goes: Poughkeepsie Tapes, Devil's (Dyatolov) Pass, Frankenstein Theory, Frankenstein's Army, The Den, Ratter, Taking of Deborah Logan, Ratter, Alien Abduction. McPherson Tape is pretty much the granddaddy of them all. I'm pretty sure you've covered Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity and V/H/S, right, Ryan? :)
the moon is such a perfect setting for a desolate, fear of the unknown horror film, its so close to the abyss of space, and such a large object, but its a claustophobic environment
Oh man I remember one late summer night after returning from work this movie was playing in tv. Grabbed a beer and some food and spent my night watching it.
Great work as always Ryan and thank you from reminding me the good old days.
Something that occured to me is that the creatures resemble moon rocks. The fact that they evolved to look like moon rocks suggests the existence of other predatory life on the moon. That's kind of a terrifying implication.
This channel reinvigorated my love for horror, thanks Ryan 😊
Thanks for watching!
I cannot believe it's been a decade since me and my friends went and saw this movie. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Ryan!
I love this film so much, its slow and calm start compounded with build up of the monsters really is chilling
You gotta do “Life” next. And explain how that was supposed to be a venom horror movie but then turned into its own thing
Glad to see someone talking about this one. Saw it like a year ago and I quit liked it.
I saw this movie in theaters when I was 12 years old. And it scared the living daylights out of me, but since then, it became one of my absolute horror favorite films.
i’m so glad you covered this movie. it’s always freaked me out
I remember my parents renting this movie, I'm guessing they didn't know much about it because they let me watch it with them. I can still recall being absolutely terrified and hating it, but looking back, I agree with Ryan's review.
Oh hi Ryan!
hi!
@@RyanHollinger thanks for covering this film I actually liked it. But can I request a film for you to cover it’s called Prospect it’s not horror but it’s a good film with an amazing soundtrack
Your first 2 videos this year have been 2 of your best. Great stuff.
YESSS FINALLY SOMEONE IS DOING THIS MOVIE JUSTICE!
I saw it in the theater and ever since I’ve loved this gem. I do not understand why it’s so overlooked. It’s such a fun and unique idea, it was executed very well, and honestly furthered my fear of the unknown.
Also knowing how the aliens were hiding or what they looked like makes a second viewing kinda terrifying bc they were pretty much near the creatures the entire time but didn’t even know it.
I saw this in the theater as well and I seriously LOVED it.
This is lowkey a great movie. I loved it. The concept is terrifyingly unique. Absolutely a must watch if you like horror movies.
Yesss this movie was so good, I loved it. It was weird, and stupid, interesting and honestly, creative. Speaking of moons and found footage, would LOVE to see you cover Lunopolis (2010)!
I have a bit of a soft spot for this movie. I watched it with some friends years ago, and we were enjoying it for the most part until the reveal of the space rock monsters. The atmosphere and tone were pretty effective in drawing us all in, but once those rocks came to life, we were all laughing the rest of the movie.
The best part is we have an in-joke within this group. We watched it with subtitles on, and when the swarm of rock monsters appears, the text says "chittering intensifies" so that has been with us for a few years
I first watched this on an illegal streaming site. The copy was one of those that's secretly filmed in the cinema on a shitty camera. It's probably the only time it made a movie better. The experience was kinda cool. The CGI looked real, and it just gave the film a grittier, less polished feel.
I want more moon/space related horror movies, 1 of the most feared things in the world is space. Its empty, dark, lonely, far from home, and its like the deep sea to where we don't know what creatures or things live out there.
Imagine if it turned that the moon itself was actually ALIVE in this movie. Being a living, breathing lovecraftian creature - with the all moon-rock spiders/crabs essentially being the equivalent of red blood cells for this creature.
And that the reason why it ends up attacking the crew of Apollo 18, is because the moon interprets them as “foreign bodies”.
that would honestly be a really neat twist^^
When this came out, I went to see it in an empty theater. It was sad to see no one supporting this movie that I still think to be pretty damn good, but it was also a very fun movie experience I didn't have to really hold back my feelings watching in a private theater experience.
This movie is surprisingly good, as usual Internet critics ripped it because they hate everything they’re told to hate but I highly recommend!
That's woke hollywood for ya
@@JohnWick-vh2qy omg pls stop it with using woke when it isn't applicable lol
@@JohnWick-vh2qy wokeness doesnt exist.
@@JohnWick-vh2qy ... I'm sorry, but how is this film 'woke'?
You know I remember seeing it first and thinking it was stupid. Looking back it wasn't that bad. Kinda of cleaver, far more of an interesting reason we stopped than just America just getting board and deciding to stop after proving its Superiority. And it bothers to explain how we simply just can see the aliens since their rocks and not high tech stuff.
Glad you covered this. This movie is a masterpiece. First time I watched it was on psychedelics, and seeing the spiders morph and warble more than intended on screen gave me palpitations.
The plot is fun, I've always been a fan of "alternate history", especially when it's set up in such a way that it would have had no record and you couldn't prove it didn't happen.
And don't get me started on the cinematography, sound design, and acting.
To be honest, I was a little taken aback hearing you refer to it as "forgotten." I figured this movie'd have a pretty big following.
that vessi ad really immersed me. thanks, well done
I’ve loved this movie for so long I’m so happy someone is finally talking about it
I LOVE space as a setting. Not like, being on alien planets, but just floating in the void of space. Theres a bunch of horror movies that have that one terribe sequal that's just the same thing but 'in space'. But the ones that do space right? Where the horror comes from the seperation, the unfamiliar and the disorientation? ooooooooooo boy. They make Space a 'character' rather than just the setting, which makes it so much more impactful. I demand more space horror.
I saw this in the theater as well! I thought it was pretty good. I remember the ending really getting me because you think he’s gonna actually escape then you see all those rocks in the module and you’re like “oohhh shiiiii”
When I was younger, my dad rented this movie for me thinking it was the documentary about the actual Apollo mission and so I watched this film thinking everything was real and was scarred for life
When I was about 11, I saw the trailer for this movie and it really scared me; I couldn't stop thinking about it for weeks. Glad to see it getting a little bit in the spotlight.
