Hi and welcome to Pan The Organizer, where you and I work together to help you improve different aspects of your life!
It's important to clean your dishwasher to get rid of the dirt, odour, mold and mildew that can buildup over time. You should follow these quick steps every 6 months. Your dishwasher will thank you, and you'll have cleaner dishes and no more cloudy glasses!
Quick new tip, add the vinegar in a measuring cup, and place that on the top rack during the vinegar cycle. As some washing machines perform a "flush" of liquids on startup, if the vinegar is in the bottom it will get flushed right away. So by having it in the measuring cup, it will get dispensed into the wash cycle as the cycle progresses.

That's what I'm talking about straight to the point without giving the history of the dishwasher or your background in Rocket Science. Thank you very much!!!🙂👍
Thanks for not taking an hour to tell me how to do this. I'm trying it now!

Thanks for the comment Sheila! 👍🏻
How did you discover my channel?
I just typed in how to clean my dishwasher myself and a bunch came up. Your's was the shortest so I thought you'd be to the point and you were. I don't need a lecture on why it works. It worked great I might add and saved me time and money. I'm subscribing to your channel right now!
+Sheila Welhoelter
Wow! Thanks for the kind feedback!
And welcome to the Pan TheOrganizer family!
Read my mind
How did it work? Was it clean? Is it still clean till this day?
dont dump the vinegar in. Dishwashers usually run the drain pump before starting the cycle. put the vinegar in a cup standing up inside. plus check the manual to see If there's a cycle that goes straight to wash without rinse eg a medium to rapid cycle
Great advice
How is a cup standing up with vinegar work??? and I presume you meant bottom rack ???
@@Aunt_Bee4738 the water from the dishwasher goes into the bowl of vinegar & splashes it around the dishwasher. If your dishwasher is really bad once u know it's not going to rinse u can put some straight into the bottom as well.
I would suggest just waiting for the drain to finish and the pre-wash fill to start and just dump the vinegar in the tub.
Thank you for being brief and to the point!
Thanks Arun!
I can echo the comments of many: I appreciate the concise and clear instructions. I also am glad to find a method of cleaning my dishwasher without using toxic chemicals, which is extremely important to me. Thank you so much!

Awesome! Glad to have you onboard the Pan TheOrganizer family! :)
Pan TheOrganizer can you put both baking soda n vinegar in at the same time, is that suggested or advised.....thanks
Ace D when you mix them both the reaction will yield mostly water, if I remember well from CHM 1045 it’s more than 90% water. So no

Thanks for the succinct, no-BS video. I've watched a couple more on YT, and they all advocate mixing the vinegar and baking soda in one cycle. Was wondering why you separated the two into two cycles of cleaning. Thanks.
Thanks for the positive feedback! You definitely don’t want to combine the two as that would generate an unwanted chemical reaction.
@@PanTheOrganizerDoes order matter Vinegar first vs baking soda first?
Only video I watched about this subject and I’m off to try it. Since I clean many things with vinegar and baking soda I’m confident this will work like a charm! Thanks

How did you discover my channel?
Pan TheOrganizer I was searching how to clean my Bosch dishwasher and there is a lot of stuff, but none rang through like yours. I made a lot of sense because of the chemistry and the lower cost. In between washes I use Lemi Shine but I wanted to clean the inners because we have really hard water here in Escondido. Thank you.! PS. When I start a cycle I notice that it dumps all of the staging water, so I left the cup on top full of vinegar and during the cycle it filled with water and the vinegar slowly distributed. Another there way is to wait until it's filled then dump the vinegar.
+Fabio Soto

Thank you 🙏🏼 sigh I needed this.
Glad it was helpful!
This is a great video that is down to the point without unnecessary drag. I searched youtube for "How to sanitize Whirlpool dishwashers. Your link was the 7th one. But somehow, I clicked on it first. :-) I have a recommendation regarding the toothbrush and baking soda. It would be too harsh for the rubber surfaces to be rushed with dry baking soda. One can make a paste of it with a little water and rub the paste against the rubber with a microfibre/er towel. Then, a wet microfibre/er towel can remove any residues left on the surfaces. I combined your process and mine and it worked great.
Thanks for the positive feedback! And great tip too Shahram! Have a great day.
Worked really well, dishwasher looks like new. Thanks for the video - appreciate the no nonsense approach
👍🏻
I do this every 2-3 months as we use our dishwasher heavily on a daily basis and it works amazing. I still like to get familiar with taking the filter out and cleaning that as well as letting it sit in vinegar overnight. If you don't let the filter get gunked up it makes everything else simple
How do you take the filter out?
@@daneilkacer4580 it depends on your model. I have a Samsung so under the bottom sprayer you can move the silver tray on top, and you twist the filter right out of the hole. Clean it with a toothbrush and dish soap, and sit it in vinegar all night once you find out how to remove it.
@@daneilkacer4580 AdamDIY on CZcams has a great tutorial on that

how would you do this on a Bosche dishwasher? I cannot find my filter@@LonghornsLegend
I've heard this before but I have seen several other articles that say you should only put the vinegar in a bowl in the top shelf because it can ruin the seals.

Easy clean thanks!! Note to self follow directions. I put the vinegar & baking soda in at the same time. It causes a reaction combined and suds came out the bottom. Clean floor too! :)

Pan I’m super curious how you actually load your dishwasher. For instance, do glasses go on the prongs or between them? A 30 second video would suffice. My husband loads the dishwasher in the most illogical ways and it drives me nuts!

mine pumps out any water left from the last load when i turn it on so pouring the vinegar in first, it just pumps it out. i turn it on and listen for it to start pumping in. when it starts i pour the vinegar in and toss the baking soda around inside then continue.
Same here. First thing that happens when my dishwasher starts is it goes through a drain cycle. I use a dry powder product called Lemi-Shine. Leaves a nice citrus smell when done and cleans really well.
Thanks for the info - concise & to the point. Plus, cost effective Good to know.

Thank you for this quick, simple, quality video. The title doesn't say it but it was exactly what I was looking for--easy household/homemade dishwasher cleaner. Thank you! I've seen lots of recommendations like this too so I'm doing the vinegar part now!
😁👍🏻
@@PanTheOrganizer 😁 It worked well! I did read online tho that Bosch dishwashers recommend their own descaler and cleaner or Finish brands, and in fact discourage using vinegar because it could eat away at the stainless steel and rubber in the dishwasher. I did a cup of vinegar and equal parts water and it didn't even smell like vinegar afterwards. I think I'll try citric acid next time as it chelates steel rather than eats at it, but it may have its own downsides as well
I don’t know if someone pointed this out already. But make sure you clean the filter and the screen in the bottom of the dishwasher. I had my dishwasher for two years and did not know I had to do that. When I pulled out the filter and screen it was really gross! Take a look at your instruction manual for your dishwasher and figure out how to clean the filter.
Thanks
I just did those! Talk a lift all the black gunk and stuff I seen. Thank god 4 u and this comment or I wouldn’t have known 😀
@@Eribradshaw That reminds me it has been six months and I need to clean the dishwasher again!
“EVERY 6 MONTHS”! 😂🤣 🤭. I have “CLEANING” to do😬
Your dishwasher will thank you Mary!
Some websites say to put the vinegar in an upright container on the top rack, and that has never worked for me. This method worked amazingly well! My dishwasher was absolutely disgusting and it was nearly perfectly clean after doing this (there was still some filmy residue on some parts of the rack)! I’m sure if I clean it more often it will do the trick. Thanks!
I usually use finish, I am going to try this method. I alway have white vinegar on hand for other cleaning. As always thank you for your informative video🥰❤️
The first thing a dishwasher does when it is activated is run the sump pump to empty any leftover water in the machine.
So wouldn't this suck out the vinegar ? Shouldn't a person wait until the cycle is running and then add the vinegar to the dishwasher tub with water in it?
You could add the vinegar in a container on the top rack and as the cycle goes through, it will gradually flush the vinegar out and let it do its work.
Ohh. that's brilliant. That did not occur to me.
How did you discover my channel?
I was watching a video of another user on how to clean a front load washing machine and your video for cleaning a dishwasher was listed on the right of the screen and I clicked it.
Use an old glass bowl/jug and place it standing up on the bottom rack. Some machine have an automatic continue so you could pause & open to empty vinegar in after 1 minute of the normal cycle. Most of his vinegar would go straight down the drain.
Thank you for this quick and easy video. I just bought a used portable dishwasher, and I'm running these 2 cycles now to clean it.
