  • Floating War Eagle Creek from Hwy 23 to Hwy 45 is a 13.5-mile float through a beautiful area of Madison County, AR. The duration of this float depends on the flow of the river. For our float, the Hwy 45 gauge read 2.5 ft. At this level, we had pretty good flow. We finished the float in a total of around 7.5 hours. It's a long day float but riverbank camping is allowed, so it would be a good overnighter.
Along the way, we were treated to tons of interesting bluffs, rock formations, and waterfalls. The water and surrounding terrain changes quite a bit throughout the course of the float. There is some flat and stagnant water to paddle through, but also plenty of shoals and clear water to swim in.
The take-out point is on private property, and to gain access to it, we shuttled with OAR War Eagle, who has permission to use the area.
