- This is a 4 mile float on the Little Red River below Greers Ferry Dam near Heber Springs. Cow Shoals is the second public access point (JFK Park is the first) on the Little Red. We did this float on 6/25/23, and started at 1:00 pm, well before the dam releases water. On a hot summer day, this float is a great way to beat the heat! So tranquil! ❤️❤️ some interesting info about the dam too
Man,
I’ve done similar things. 😆
Loaded up to go fishing, get there and don’t have one fishing pole with me 😆
Looks like y’all had a good time 🙏👍🎣
@WholeOtherLevelOutdoors haha, yep, that's exactly what I did! It was a $50 mistake, but at least I have a pretty decent spare paddle now. lol. We still had a good time!
Beautiful! 95% of my vacations for the Last 20 years have been to this river. That said, Dripping Springs access in Pangburn floating down to Ramsey or to the 305 Access is the best part of the river. I mean, umm , nevermind, its awful, don't go, super boring and bland, just terrible, don't waste your time, seriously its hideous. wink wink... Ramsey to 305 has few house or docks. Also, floating during generation is not bad at all, if they are only running one genny. Best of Luck, I hope to float with yall some time! And remember, you could be pulling a 12 hour shift in a chinese iphone plant...... anything has to beat that...
@rajhi29 hahahaha! OK, now I have to go float that section! lol. You're right though, any day on a river beats a day at work (and I've got a pretty easy job). I wasn't trying to be negative on my review of this float. Really just wanted to point out that there are better sections to kayak on the Little Red.
The LRR is a shadow of its former self. I've been fishing it since the mid-'70s. Houses along the river were few, floating docks were fewer, and the best shoals to wade and fish were accessible. Heber Springs realtors, property owners and overpowered boating have ruined the character of the river. There is nothing pristine remaining. ( 0:06 ) The river should have been protected by the powers that be. Instead, it's been plundered. And I’m bitter about it.
