    I really enjoyed your video. I was 8 years old when the bridge collapsed. The bridge fell in 1989. My family and I were on the bridge when the church group got there and we left before they got it going.

      I may have passed you then, I had been fishing there most of the day and came out of the water as they arrived. I remember it was mostly teenage kids and a few adults who passed my truck as I removed my waders. I watched them all go out onto the bridge as I drove off. When I got home and turned on the TV, the news did a special break-in talking about it. As I remember they had started generating and the water was coming up that's why I had to stop fishing which made rescuing them even harder. It was a sad day for sure and one I think about every time I'm there.

I was a bit hesitant to just up and go with no knowledge of the area but after watching your video I am much more inclined to go cause I feel now like I know where to fish without trouble from locals. Thanks for your efforts to help us from out of state.

    So looking at the Trout Fishing Regulations sign I have a few questions you might be able to answer...can you only fish with one fly? So no double nymph rigs?? Also, Can you change out Rod/reels so long as you are only USING one at a time??

    • @ArkansasFishingVideos
      @ArkansasFishingVideos  Před 11 měsíci +1

      No droppers or doubles in the catch and release areas but each area on the river is a little different. You can change out rods and reels as long as you are only fishing one, we had guys and some gals lining the banks like they were cat fishing out there with 2 or more rods at a time. We have had real problems through the years with people snagging Browns during the spawn and instead of breaking them off they played them to the point that the fish died. This is a link (see below) to the state reg and you will find The Little Red info on or around page 35-37. Is there a fly shop in the Heber. Springs area? My wife and I are heading up that way next week. Thanks for the info. Any tips for early April fishing?

    • @ArkansasFishingVideos
      @ArkansasFishingVideos  Před 3 lety +1

      Jay there is a local fly shop it's called the Ozark Angler 659 Wilburn Rd
      Heber Springs, AR 72543 (501)362-3597. I fish sow bugs and midges year round and have pretty good luck, the fly shop will have the colors you need. If you have not already made reservations you may want to wait if you are wade fishing only, the lake is about 2 feet above pool and the corp has been running a generator plus letting about 600 cfs through the flood gates around the clock for the last week. If you have a boat you will be fine but the river is not wadeable with that much water running. The Ark Game and Fish puts out a fishing report every Thursday with pretty accurate information, you can find it here www.agfc.com/en/news/category/fishing-report/ the Little Red will be under the Central Ark section. Good luck to you guys, thanks for watching and the comment!

      @@ArkansasFishingVideos I saw that the flow would be steady from the dam. At what flow will I not be able to wade?

    • @ArkansasFishingVideos
      @ArkansasFishingVideos  Před 3 lety

      In my experience, any water makes it un-wadable. They do not do min flow like on the White River so if they run water it's going to be at least 1 generator which is too much to wade. The lake is still about a foot and a half above the normal pool so my guess is they will keep running water all this week, but maybe you will get lucky and they will shut off some for the weekend but the corp and Southwest Power Pool does what's best for them first. Call the fly shop a day or two before you come up and they will shoot you straight, if the fishing is crap they will tell you. They have guides they work with but I'm not sure the rates for half or full day. On a side note if you read that fishing report I sent a link to do not believe the report from Fish 'N' Stuff that says the water is low and a little colored, I check every day because I want to fish as much as you do and they have been running water every day.

    Thanks for the great video and info on this area! My brother-in-law and i will be there 6/21-6/23 staying at a cabin on the river. first time so glad for the info! Will call down and check the water release schedule a day before. We were planning on taking a canoe in case there are opportunities for it. Do you advise against using one down there with the water fluctuations? Also, have not fly fished much but will bring one. Mostly fish with ultra light spinning. :) thank you. Bob

    • @ArkansasFishingVideos
      @ArkansasFishingVideos  Před 2 lety

      You're welcome, I would definitely download the USACE Little App that will give you the most up to date info on water release. Once you have the app the two place you will want to look is the "Releases" and you will see Greers Ferry Dam listed that will tell you when the turned on or off. Also look at "SWAP Forecast" Greers Ferry is number 15 (you will see what I mean in the app) that will tell you when they plan to turn on and off. It's just listed by days of the week so make sure when you look at the day you check the date to make sure it's the right date and not the week before (again you will see what I mean inside the app). The do stick to that schedule pretty close sometimes they may turn on a few minutes earlier but for the most parts it correct. As far as a canoe goes that would depend on your skill level, the Red is not water water for sure but two units running is a lot of water and a fast float. I never recommend anchoring but you can paddle up and float fish back down through the long pools and of course wear a PFD. Give the fly rod a try but ultra light tackle can be just as much fun. Thanks for watching and good luck on your trip!

    • @ArkansasFishingVideos
      @ArkansasFishingVideos  Před rokem +1

      I believe the lake is still up from all the rain, so I would probably try down at the old swinging bridge because they are probably going to be running water. Depending on the water you may have to tight-line it. If not I would try trout magnets under a lite leader and cork. If you get lucky and they are not running water, try up at the dam near the pipes. Hope all that helps. Good luck and dress warm sounds like it's going to be a cold weekend.

      I just looked at the app and they are running water until midnight tonight then shutting off until 9am tomorrow (but could be earlier), you should be able to wade in at the JFK for a few hours if you get there early. I always start with a sow bug of some sort in grey or cream color, I can almost always catch at least one with that combo. Just listen for the horn because the water comes up fast that close to the dam, so have an exit plan or path up the bank. Good luck and thanks for watching!
