  • My friends Balde and Renetta Silva of Toby Beau performed at Louie's Backyard at South Padre Island last night. They had a No 1 hit in the 70's called My Angel Baby. They now play a month at Louie's and the rest of the year, they are the main star act on a cruise line off of Hawaii.

We took a Hawaiian Island cruise on the Pride of America aat the beginning of June , and saw in the program that Toby Beau would be performing. I remembered their hit "My Angel Baby" from the late '70s, but knew nothing else about the band. I was totally blown away, especially by Balde Silva's vocal range, by how good a guitar player he is, and by the tremendous versatility of both Balde and his wife Renetta. Onbe would think that they had a six or seven person band! One of the highlights of our cruise!

I saw these kids down at SPI Hilton and Holiday Inn.
They were the best at the Bahia Mar.
Elizabeth was always there with her boom box recording.
    Santa Santa colita de raña.

Thanks for adding this. I had forgotten all about these guys. I graduated high school in 1978, and they were big then. A lot of radio play and they sold a lot of albums in Michigan, at least in my area. Glad to see them still playing music. They sound very good, look like they are still having fun, which is the most important thing.

Great song. When i think of the song Angel Baby i always think of the song
Sad Eyes by Robert John. Both came out the same time in the late 70s and were memorable songs.

Great song, and so nice to see them give a nod to, "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye", the obvious inspiration for, "My Angel Baby".

well, went on the 3/13-3/20 cruise on the NCL Pride of America...I am so fortunate that they JUST came back that week from a vacation! Had them sign my album cover of their colossal hit in 1978 after the Eagles tribute!.
They do a great tribute to the Eagles, Beatles, along with their own show in the ship's Hollywood Theatre...hope their new country song becomes a big hit! Good luck to them!

glad to see a lot of others went on the NFL Pride of America cruise...did you know there used to be 3 NCL cruise ships around the island (which was I know overkill, so they had to move the other two to elsewhere in the world). There was the Pride of Aloha (went on that cruise in 07 with my brother) and Pride of Hawaii.

The producer working with Robert John called him in California, & told him I have a song you need to model a new song after, get to the studio. This was the song that became 'Sad Eyes', which was the number 5 top selling single of 1979.

Wow they still sound good. At least they sing it just like the single. I don't like when singers sing their popular songs in a different way.

No high note? Oh well.. it's *the high point of the song as pretty as it is. But I'd be surprised if he managed it, even when this video was taken.
