Billy was an absolute Beatle. They were like children around him when recording as he was such an accomplished musician when he worked with them all those years ago. God bless him
@Mike G -- There is a reason beyond just the greatness of the song: George actually wrote -- and gave away - "My Sweet Lord" to Billy Preston in 1970, who put out his own much more Gospel style version as a single that year. And yet... Billy, Eric Clapton, Ringo, Gary Wright and others ended up playing on Harrison's release of the song that same year. Meaning Preston was involved from the very beginning. He also worked with the Beatles off and on for years, as well as the Rolling Stones and others. A versatile, much loved artist. So he deserved to enjoy this last tribute to his friend George.
I'm from gen z, and I freaking love this song, as well as the beatles and george (he's always been my favourite beatle) Preston's voice on this cover is amazing, rip to both george and billy ❤🕊
That was an all star tribute. George’s Son looks just like him, Paul, Ringo, and Eric Clapton was great! In the beginning , they used to call Billy the 5th Beetle because with his talent and friendship, he blended right in. Loved the song.
If you don't count Pete,, Actually he's the 5th Beatle. Jeff Lynne 6th. Jeff's better than all of em together. He n Georgie playing banjos is priceless.
Murray the K from WINS in NYC was the first Fifth (not in the band) Beatle. He went on the 1964 US tour and mentioned being the fifth beatle constantly . Not sure if he was the emcee but wouldn't be surprised. First time I ever heard the term.

Paul playing Piano, Ringo playing Drums, George's son playing guitar looking just like him. So heavenly. It is also weird on the amount of talented friends George had.
@@yagesh287 Billy Preston wasn't an actual Beatle, but played with them, and other artists, often. Billy was an R&B/funk/gospel artist of the 1960s and 1970s. He had some great songs, and backed many of the artists of the day. "Nothing From Nothing" is one of my favorites. Look it up. 😁
I listen to this song at least once a month for years now. It makes my heart sad to know so many have gone now, but overall it is such an inspiring song. Miss the Beatles...
This version reaches you because you feel that spiritual connection that George had with his beliefs, if it were not for the parts singing the Haré Krishna, it could pass as a religious song
Billy just radiates with Love here as he did every time he preformed! Makes me sad that I never got to see him Live, loved All his music since I was 10 years old!!
As much as I love George Harrison performing this himself, Billy Preston's version brings me to tears! George left us 19 years ago today! He's up there singing with Billy!
I was singing along with this one and when I got to the first Hare Krishna I sobbed and got tears to my eyes. The love for the lord transcends all boundaries; language, culture, and time
It’s true but lit like a lot of victims billy was one himself. Sexualy abused as a child. Who knows what torment these people suffer. It’s like a cycle of abuse. Remember billy for being a great musician. Perhaps his failings were not his fault.
I remember Billy being in the 2nd version of the Sergeant Pepper movie. I really love this song, though. George Harrison and Billy, amazing musicians. I know about Billy and the abuse etc. That's a big batch of imperfect! But it's also a sickness and him being abused is not his fault. People do what they know, even if, logically, they know it's wrong. I read he was honestly remorseful. There are sicknesses that aren't likely to be curbed with any treatment but imprisonment. It's horrible. However, I choose to look at the good he did in his life. He was an amazing musician and with this gift he did good in the world. He made people happy and made others want to be worthy of life. Yes, he did terrible things, but the man is gone from this world. I am not excusing anything he did, but only saying we can look upon the good as a bit of repayment for the pain he caused.
Billy's voice in this performance is the most soft and wonderful voice I've heard in a very long time. George must be sitting up there in heaven crying tears of joy.
@@DaveBallOW Autotune!!!!??? WTF - He's not near that at all. Autotune always give that kind of artificial aftereffect, but Preston doesn't need that. That's obvious!
I read many comments about the production of this glorious song but not much about the message. Sure, one can get caught up in the magnitude of the performance but remember how sweet the Lord really is. God bless you all!
Billy did the original recording of this a few months before George recorded it. I didn't like Billy's first recording but this one is brilliant only bettered by George's.

The entire ensemble for all the songs played for the 2002 Concert for George is truly mind-blowing and with all those icons up on the stage - the music is at another level. It's very rare that live performances trump the official versions, but this concert is an exception. Never tire of listening.
No, he did not ! The LORD JESUS CHRIST is not Hare Krishna.... and all the other false gods! Listen to the backing singers .... what are saying, Hare Rana, Hare Krishna, Guru Vishnu, guru devo, parabahma, guru nahama etc. These are all names of false gods. Cannot and will never be The Gospel... the Gospel is about the LORD JESUS CHRIST. Sounds good but not good.
I’m an atheist but I’m a big fan of the song, studying religions to understand them and have nothing wrong with religion since they’re amazing charitable organizations. I just don’t like it when others push their religious beliefs onto others and are inconsiderate to other beliefs.

I just want to note how Mr. Preston got everyone up on their feet here. He absolutely preached this song. I hope that George was somewhere he could see this, because I expect he would have loved it.
He let the audience know that this is a moment. It took them a while but they figured it out because he waited for them. Good observation, I wish I was there!
A recording of the entire concert should be kept in a safe place so that the day there are no more humans on earth, whoever finds it can think despite everything, there were beauty and love and moments worth living.

My father died of Leukemia in 2016. I miss him so much I wish I would have spent more time with him.
I didn't know who I had until he was gone. I play this song over his grave with flowing tears as I can't wait to see him again.
When you watch the Get Back docs you realize just how key Billy Preston was to bringing that session together. He was the glue. So great
His nickname was the 5th Beetle for a reason. 🤗

There was always something so beautiful about Billy. George knew how to pick his friends.

Favorite song of all time. Plan on having this song played at my own funeral.

A master piece by Georges Harrison RIP. What ever is your religion, the spirituality of this song is deeper than the ocean. I'm a muslim and can't have enough of it.
I love your mindful.
That's shirk lol

Otro fenómeno.
I am not a religious man.
But this brings tears to my eyes.
How on earth you cannot be moved by this song is beyond me .
And the dislikes not worth mentioning
don't need to believe in one god to be sensible, it's in our nature
Don't be religious, be spiritual, that's when you find the divine meaning.
And now Billy is jamming with George and John in heaven. And God, the biggest Beatle fan of all, is enjoying and singing along with them.
@shame fitzsimons - I'm the same! 51 years old, tears streaming. Why is that? Religious? Me? No. Spiritual maybe? Something in this brings out my love for other humans.
Hey man, don't gotta be religious to believe in god. There is something much greater than us and there are people out there that can show it to us
They say George Harrison infringed on the Shirelles’ “He So Fine”. Well, the public worldwide loved it. “My Sweet Lord” was the biggest selling song in America in 1970 - topping charts internationally! Song Of The Year at the 1971 Grammy Awards. Finally, l want to see the Lord, one day! Enough said…
Still here, thank God almighty.
This was when i was a kid, thankful to have lived through the greatest music ever.
My mother was in the kitchen. She always had the radio playing. We lived on a farm Michigan. I think it was January of 1964, and I was 16. She told me to come listen to the radio. It was the Beatles singing the song, 'I Want to Hold Your Hand'. I have been a Beatles fan ever since. I own many records and albums. God rest his soul.
Please also listen to cover Live Sensational One of the Best by Federico Perlingieri and sung by Trevor Jackson... This is good too....

Haha me too. My father sent this to me this morn. He's a big Clapton fan from back in the day- I'm 30 and my first concert was Clapton; I just got into Preston and he sent me this cause he's quarantined and bored out of his mind. So very nice.
MrTenyearsafter07 that’s awesome 👍🏻 and I would love to see Clapton live, so you’re lucky! It’s crazy how we discover or rediscover the best music in times like this
Billy Preston wasn't just going through the motions... he really enjoyed singing that. Great version!
Yes indeed!!! I'm speechless. The tears are flowing
THE BEST TO BEST,O FIVE BEATLE
Yes Mike....he is singing this from his heart... nkt just a song but about the lord... and very very sweet and the lord
I agree with you grew up with all his music 79 yrs old still love his music
Hopefully some kids from gen z will be able to understand and appreciate an absolute masterpiece like this ♥️
I'm from gen z, and I freaking love this song, as well as the beatles and george (he's always been my favourite beatle) Preston's voice on this cover is amazing, rip to both george and billy ❤🕊

That was an all star tribute. George’s Son looks just like him, Paul, Ringo, and Eric Clapton was great! In the beginning , they used to call Billy the 5th Beetle because with his talent and friendship, he blended right in. Loved the song.
Jeff Lynne !
I loved the way Ravi Shankar called Dhani his grandson... So special
thought they called George Martin the 5th Beatle.. Billy Preston is the 6th Beatle then
If you don't count Pete,, Actually he's the 5th Beatle.
