  • This video identifies a gold ingot, from the historic Blewett Mining District, in Washington State. This video uses 360 degree photography. Note that this ingot actually does not contain solid gold. It is all lead--except for a thin facade of gold (the sample contains wear that shows the lead within the ingot). Additionally, the weight seems a bit off from the 52 ounces on the ingot. I weighed it, and it is closer to four pounds (you don't want to make a similar mistake if the ingot was actually gold)!
Blewett no longer exists as a town. It is located at relatively high valley, on the eastern side of the Cascade Range Mountains. It is located between the cities of Cle Elum and Wenatchee--near Blewett Pass.
Gold was discovered in area of Blewett around 1860. Initial placer deposits were traced to nearby bedrock deposits. However, after 1910, only limited gold mining continued thereafter.
Hello Rock People! This is Dave the Geology Dude. Please be aware that the only way to really learn rock identification, is to have hands-on experience. This is because visual experiences alone do not show properties like hardness, acid reactivity, density, and the range of variables that are common to each rock type. Hello Rock People! This is Dave the Geology Dude! There is more to this video than just a spinning "gold" ingot (which is actually lead). There are detailed notes in the description area. If you want more, other rock identification videos are on my CZcams homepage. Check them out, or leave a comment here.

Only if that were a solid bar of gold 🤤.
Very neat story by the way. I always enjoy the long form whenever you have the time. Thanks Dave!

Yes. He had reasons not to trust outsiders, but obviously I wasn’t interested in his gold-ha ha-so then I was okay!

Hey Dave, I saw your video featured on Channel Makers, well done on earning a spot 🙂
    I see you’ve acted on Nate’s advice already, you’re a fast mover!
Keep up the great work, I like your narrated videos 😊
I may be wrong, but I’ve viewed the large foreign audience as a representation of CZcams’s user base e.g for ages most of my audience were from India, but India has over a billion people, so that fits 😊

Great to hear from you Jason! I'm looking forward to seeing your new CZcams channel develop! You have a lot of knowledge to contribute.
Yes, the exposure/suggestions from Nate is great! Later today, I will post the link for Nate, and my discussion regarding Nate's video (under the Community tab for GeologyDude). My plans are to do more of the longer videos this year. I had already started that before Nate's video published, and I have 3- or 4 others that are more than half done....
Yes, India is #2 on my audience list (after USA). But English-speaking countries are way down the GeologyDude audience list: Canada is #9, Australia is #15, and England #16 (all of these are 1% or less total views). So, I will continue to publish un-narrated #shorts, like last year too--to accommodate that large audience. The #shorts video also will serve as a convenient reference to borrow from--as reminder visuals to include in my future longer videos.

@@iPhoneVideoWithJason yes it is exciting to approach 500, but as you know, every new subscriber is noticed and appreciated for small channels
