You all know Amebix, who were one of the first to play crust punk mixed with thrash metal (and even proto-black metal). Here's my favourite ballad by them - "Coming Home", a very beautiful and sad song.
"I just buried a friend" wonderful... bought this album however many years ago on a random recomendation.... I know this album is considered the *downwards slope* of the band, but there are some great great songs on it.
Lyrics: I just buried a friend He had come to the end But I can't help feeling that it needn't have been Caught in the flak There was no turning back So he gave up his life for some psychopath's dream So we're leaving the front Having taken the brunt Now we're tired of the slaughter in some foreign land So the leaders of the war They fight alone on the shore Our mutiny over they are left on the sand We stand as one We are an army now of many thousand strong They stand alone To fight for ravaged land to gain their worthless throne The boys are coming home I see within my mind A vast and lonely plain Great armies meet in no man's land To clench their hands in friendship For the first time The dark tide is ebbing A mass of tired humanity drifting toward the dawn We are coming home Source: Musixmatch Songwriters: Miller Christian / Miller Robert
No labels needed for Amebix they are/were Amebix waste your time with your comparisons etc but it really is a wasted effort.. Now in 2018 we have Tau Cross, no labels needed, they are Tau Cross, waste your time with your comparisons but really it is a wasted effort. Authenticity Quality Class no more to say.
You can definitely see how this inspired Bathory, maybe even moreso than Venom although I could see that too. (I also do not consider Venom as "Black Metal",they might have coined the term but the Swedish and Norwegian Language Definitions of said genre are very removed from them and also far more important as a whole. I think Venom themselves even said that what they were doing was a different thing.)
I'm kind of new to Amebix, in a strange way. Nearing 30 and have known about them for years, but just starting to recognize their greatness. A bit embarrassing, as i'm a huge Neurosis fan. So statements like that confuse me, until recently didn't they just have two albums? How can a second and, until last year, last album be a downward slope? Isn't this album just a much as part of their career that made them so infamous? Thanks for any replies.
All Amebix is good Amebix, even the Sonic Mass LP. When Monolith came out, it did not appease the punk following they had, but it was an ultimately natural progression their sound was going, and ended up being a unique sound for them, as their preceding albums were. The exact same can be said for the Sonic Mass LP. Shame it got shunned and resulted in the finite breakup of the band. All good things need to end eventually, after all
In my times (yeah, you can age me with carbon 14), there don´t exist labels, just punk or metal, maybe punk metal finally, but not labels as the fucking industry tried to pack the music to make it more "sellable"... when the labels appears, liberty of expression desappears. Sorry for my bad english...jajajajajaja
Funny thing is, they are certainly not Atheists by any means. Watch the documentary, if you got half a brain you will get it. Certainly do not want to label them, but they are on a serious metaphysical journey, and a very adult and interesting one.
No Gods, No masters.
This is darker than dark
one of my favorite songs they did...the lyrics are very moving ..
There is no pidgeonholing the Amebix.... they mean so much to so many for lots of reasons. The truth is a lemon meringue!
Sounds from the soul. Thank you Amebix. Sail hatan
I praise God, but I agree with the first two parts.
a gem a pasterpiece and a band that should be known to the masses
Simply A Masterpiece.
This is the very first time that I've ever heard this song. Damn, I'm hooked. Thx for the post!!
REST IN POWER TO ALL MY FALLEN BROTHERS: VICENTE; JOYA; RATGRINDER; TOPO and the rest

totally unique
Total fucking feeling.
Lyrics:
I just buried a friend
He had come to the end
But I can't help feeling that it needn't have been
Caught in the flak
There was no turning back
So he gave up his life for some psychopath's dream
So we're leaving the front
Having taken the brunt
Now we're tired of the slaughter in some foreign land
So the leaders of the war
They fight alone on the shore
Our mutiny over they are left on the sand
We stand as one
We are an army now of many thousand strong
They stand alone
To fight for ravaged land to gain their worthless throne
The boys are coming home
I see within my mind
A vast and lonely plain
Great armies meet in no man's land
To clench their hands in friendship
For the first time
The dark tide is ebbing
A mass of tired humanity drifting toward the dawn
We are coming home

@@danielpinheiro6375 similar bands in general. Arguably The First Two real Black Metal bands.
Lol, not Quorthon's voice, but his viking metal style sounds.

Overall, I liked Arise! a little better, but by god this song is fucking great
He really does sound so much like Lemmy during this song, not that that is a bad thing. I mean..it's fucking Lemmy.
Lemme was a legend but he was wayyyyy overrated musically...the baron is much better..imo..

I wish swordsmith never inhaled this shit which eventually has messed up his head.
