Unyts is among the leading procurement organizations in the United States, and is one of the only eight centers nationwide to house organ, tissue and eye procurement in one location. With the addition of Community Blood Service, Unyts has become the first organization of its kind nationwide. Unyts operates as a non-profit serving the eight counties of Western New York and works to assist donor families, coordinate the donation process and increase knowledge and awareness within the community regarding transplantation.
In the United States there are nearly 124,000 individuals waiting for transplants and many thousands more in need of tissue and corneal transplants. Sadly, an average of 22 people die each day because an organ was not made available for transplant.
Just as the Gift of Life can take the form of a life-saving organ, it can also take the form of a critical blood transfusion, and Unyts is the organization offering Western New Yorkers the opportunity to save and enhance the lives of neighbors. One pint of blood can save up to three lives and one in seven people entering a hospital needs blood.
Since beginning collections in June 2007, Unyts has become the primary supplier of blood products for ECMC, Kaleida Health, and all the hospitals in Niagara and Wyoming Counties. Our local hospitals need to maintain an adequate supply of blood for emergency situations and it is up to Unyts and the generosity of our donors to help provide safe levels of blood inventory.

Unyts’ Save James campaign will motivate the unregistered to sign up as organ, eye and tissue donors. It will inspire conversation among loved ones about organ donation.
The campaign will move those who have never given before to donate blood. It will prompt lapsed and infrequent blood donors to give again.
It will re-energize those who already support Unyts’ mission, encouraging them to increase their efforts.
Mimicking the check-off format of an organ donor signup form, this concept implies that saving someone’s life is as simple and straightforward as checking off a “Yes / No” box-a tiny action with a huge impact. Showing its subjects in their comfort zones, “Save James” presents individuals whom the viewer can relate to in everyday life. Its subjects are fathers, brothers, daughters, best friends, sports enthusiasts, pet owners-they could be anyone you know and care about; they’re dying, and they need organs now. “Save James” puts this crisis in context, with faces and names at the forefront instead of statistics. This prompting the viewer to sit up and take notice of this concept’s direct call to action that is nearly impossible to say “no” to.
