If you're wondering why this video ended rather abruptly, that's a good question. I'd like to claim it was because UFO's landed or zombies showed up in the parking lot, but the truth is, Adam and I started talking about guitars and after a while, we forgot what we were supposed to be talking about. I shit you not. It's an occupational hazard of sorts. If you understand this phenomenon, you're in the right place and you've found your people.

Get a couple musicians together and it’s bound to turn into a gear conversation 😂

I did, and he welcomed me. How cool he played with Tracy Chapman, I love her music. Fave: Revolution.
Thank you both for the interview, and I wish everyone a healthy, good day.😊

I totally get that, Otis. I am a huge guitar nerd, having more enthusiasm than actual technical knowledge. And my friends, especially my musician friends, know that if they want to sidetrack me and get me excited and droning on about music and guitar trivia, all they have to do is ask a question or start talking about guitars.
I think, in a way (a good way, IMO), the zombies did land in UFOs in the hotel parking lot. And they had guitars and stuff...

That's what makes your interviews work Otis, I'm sure it gets messy from a production standpoint but it's the real thing and that's what people really need and want these days.

OMG! I knew Adam during this period and his stories about recording with Tracy were THE news of the week. It was amazing to watch Adam adapt to this crazy shift in his career, even though it sounded like it was far from smooth sailing.

I didn't realize that was Adam playing the solo on Gimme One reason. I always knew him as Noah's guitar player but my god is that a GREAT guitar solo!

I remember right after he got that gig, Adam dropped by to say hi and show me a new Taylor guitar. I was impressed, even back then they cost a lot of money. He said something about how the artist deal for gear was the only reason he could afford it. It was very interesting to get a glimpse of what it took to be a pro back then. I wonder if he still has that guitar. I remember him mentioning the retainer and some of the other details mentioned in this video. I remember another local guitarist I knew in passing who was also trying out for the Chapman gig and didn't get it so I heard about this story unfolding from two perspectives. Adam was picked, I'm sure, because he knew when to play and when not to play and he could create a good lead line on the fly. Also he was such a gentle soul. I wasn't a close friend, we had mutual friends more than anything but it was always good to see him and to hear about his progress, and to see him play. I learned so much about playing just by being able to see Adam Levy on guitar up close.

Off topic here. I’ve been listening to these podcasts for about a year without knowing anything about Otis Gibbs. Thinking he is a studio player guy or something. A few weeks ago he mentioned his songs. So finally played on Spotify. Great stuff!
When do you play here in town next?

Love the Charlie Hunter reference. Such a fantastic player. Caught a couple of shows he did while touring with John Scofield and was blown away.

Cool thing about the Boss SE-50 (and SE-70) is that the drives are analog, with the circuitry on the main board inside the unit, everything else digital. The guitar synths on that are great too, very warm and retro vs. the buzzy sound of Roland/Boss's more recent synth pedals. Plus vocoder, I mean... super fun units. Built very well.
I have the SE-70 and the TU-50 half space tuner in a rack with a Digitech GSP-2101 (w PPC upgrade for the second CPU). That processor had delay/reverb trails when changing presets back in the 90s! No tap tempo though. I dont gig it but I look at it!

    i enjoyed Tracy albums...
but when we went to see her live,..i was not blown away...it fellt like i was listening to her albums...
no jamming, no solos, no improv...,
it was fine music, but when i see folks live, i like to see them take risks, and stretch things out..
tracy just played her songs just like on the albums...
i wont go see her again...
but like i said, i like her catchy sincere tunes...
