  • Douglas Murray joins the Spectator's Freddy Gray to discuss free speech in Britain following the sentences handed down after the riots, how the use of the term 'far-right' had become a tool to attack the working class in Britain and how Douglas himself became a victim of online hate.

That's the least of it, sticks and stones are far more painful as is the loss of liberty for no good reason. It makes me sick that people are all parroting the line that protest is inexcusable when it turns violent. I'm not convinced the violence wasn't orchestrated. Interesting the first to be locked up we're delinquent kids who were rio -ting and were labelled as 'far right ' Most don't know right from wrong, never mind left from right!! So where were the far right thugs? They settled on low-hanging fruit to make their point. Says it all, really.

Being called "Far-Right" is a compliment. George Washington was far right wing. He helped create the most limited Govt in Human History. This absurd idea a Socialist from Germany in the 30's is "far-right" is comical. No socialist of any flavor is "right-wing." Its one of the dumbest Marxist lies ever vended.

Recent events have made me absolutely appalled by what is going on in the UK. Not only are citizens there not allowed to express their concerns regarding the problems of mass immigration, but a simple comment or posting a meme on social media warrants a jail sentence for several weeks in Stalinist esque speedy show trials. It's unbelievably tyrannical. My father was a Royal Marine in WW2 and he was lucky to get through it when many of his mates did not. He saw and had to do terrible things in France and the Far East. He was a 'people person' after the war and was renown for helping people.
He brought up my brothers and myself to have respect and a sense of 'doing the right thing', that so many people also had after the war. He also had a now so-called flaw that was also shared by many people of the time too, he hated the Germans for what they did in the war in europe, when everything they did was revealed and became known about.
A relative of mine also went mad after guarding the groaning bodies (due to trapped gases escaping through their mouths) piled high in Belsen concentration camp, so the roaming dogs wouldn't eat them in the night.
All my family and millions of other family's knew the horror of the nazi's after WW2. We were all brought up with it so it would never happen again. So when I see "someone" walking past my house and trying to look into my garage/property to see if there is something worth having that they have not been 'given' already by the government, why am I called a far-right nazi for wanting a safe neighbourhood to live in?
I and millions of others know full well what it is to be a nazi and what they represent, yet somehow the far left are more like them than any of us.

I suggest that Stasi Starmer, should take cautious note of January 22, 1905. This is the day when the Russian czar, Nicholas II, ordered his elite Cossacks to open fire on his citizens who were protesting peacefully, which culminated with them massacring up to 200 people, and is referred to as Bloody Sunday. The outcome of this wanton carnage is that it lit the fuse, which would eventually terminate with the Bolsheviks arresting the Czar, and his family, and executing them soon after.
Similarly, Dear Stasi, I will also suggest that you reference the fates of Benito Mussolini, April 28, 1945, and Nicolae Ceausescu, Christmas Day, 1989?
With that said, don’t for a moment take what I write as being a threat to Stasi Starmer. What, in fact, I, a student of history for 54 years, is advising this simpleton, and the members of his cabinet - who have been instrumental with ruthlessly implementing vengeful retributions upon rioters - is that your rabid actions with oppressing the masses, will inevitably come back upon you with a grave ferocity.
Of course, those people involved with attempting to burn down the hotel being used to house those interlopers, is not merely unquestionably indefensible, but barbaric. However, when it comes to the scores of people who have pleaded guilty for posting ‘whatever’ it might have been on social media channels, they have received outlandish sentences of between 12 months, and up to 2 years imprisonment. All of which is something straight out of Huxley’s, ‘A Brave New World’, or Orwell’s, ‘1984’! And this is particularly so for a number of teenagers, youths, and il-educated beings who wouldn’t know the difference between a misdemeanor and a court with a judge and jury.
Clearly, Stasi Starmer, and his cabinet, along with the judiciary are all educated enough to be at least tacitly aware of what has happened to tyrants in the annals of time, when the populations they’ve oppressed rise up and exact their revenges? And the three parties I’ve nominated with Nicholas II, Mussolini, and Ceausescu, are but a trio of a multitude of callous autocrats who suffered ghastly retributions.
Tragically, British society is already a sociological cataclysm: and is way past any chance of deliverance. But if Stasi Stamer, and his repugnant tyrannical cohorts imagine for a moment that, by jailing people (again, except for those who took part in seriously detrimental violations) for posting something on social media, or being aggressive in a demonstration will summarily get the populace to prostrate themselves, and submit to dictatorial oppression implemented by law-enforcement at the behest of the government, then you are all dead wrong.
In closing, I can guarantee right here and now that, those people you have flung into prisons, in cahoots with their many millions of ardent sympathizers, will inevitably rise up against you, and take their revenge upon the oppressors.

There was a time when the British didn't need the equivalent of the protection of the US 1st Amendment. We just had real liberty to speak which didn't need legal protection. Not now. Dear me no.more. It's been a slow creep over many years until right now, when there's a reason why people need to speak their true inner feelings and we aren't going to be allowed to do so.

A great monologue. I am a 68 year old pensioner who is very unhappy with the way our country is being diminished. Why am I now being classed as "f4r right"? Just because I don't agree with the general narrative doesn't mean I am far r1ght! I just don't with one side that is being debated!

Same as you 68 years old.
Only around 10 % in society are pushing this nonsense. But at the moment they are in power and pushing the narrative.
