Kathopanishad is a unique Upanishad which starts with a Katha (story) of young Nachiketa, who is ready to face the Lord of Death in his quest for Truth to know what lies beyond death. He asks the very pertinent and philosophical question, “Is there or is there not, and if there is, what is it?”
In short, this teaching is an extravaganza of spiritual knowledge and meditation that guides a student step by step to the glorious state of immortality, peace and bliss.

Having explained the existence (sat) and consciousness (chaitanya) in prior sessions, Swamiji explores more on chaitanya in this discourse. What happens in the dream state? What gets projected in the dream? Which light is enabling this projection? Swamiji walks thru this inquiry (svapna vicharam!) to demonstrate how the projection of jiva (impressions of mind accumulated over time and lifetimes)is enabled by the presence of chaitanya. 'This, indeed ,is THAT'! Swamiji, then moves on to illustrate how to see the ONE in many forms. Its the ONE fire that takes various forms of objects with which it gets associated with (iron rod, iron ball) but it's independent of the forms and objects. Its the ONE air that assumes the forms of objects which get inflated (air balloons) but it's independent of the forms and objects. This principle holds good for space and water as well. Similarly, its the ONE consciousness that's in several forms in conditioned state and independent of forms in transcendental state! The next topic should be very interesting!
