As a former fighter, I could see in Gvozdyk's eyes before the tenth round that he just didnt think he could not only NOT win the fight but last the distance. I think for the first time in his boxing career he felt something he hadnt before...that no matter what he did, Beterbiev kept coming and was not slowing down, but he knew he certainly was, and that is an awful feeling...not to mention he was getting hurt in there and seemingly, his punches had no effect on Beterbiev, who is just incredibly strong and durable and very underrated with respect to his boxing skills. Sometimes just sometimes mind you, you just dont have it, whether it be you or opponent or combination of both, and nobody except the fighter knows , except for the eyes...and his eyes told the whole story that night.

Nothing wrong with quitting when you’ve had enough. Folding on a bad hand. Only thing wrong is feeling pressured to move on for somebody else who won’t be there when you’re in the hospital or gone. Because the fact of the matter is no fan is worth losing your life to. Especially when they themselves will never understand what it takes to get in the ring. Boxing fans are so critical but that’s the extent they’ll be, a critic sitting at home projecting themselves on their favorite fighter and that’s worse than being a quitter.

Gvozdyk did not quit at all
He kept fighting and each time he got dropped and was asked, if he wanted to continue, he said yes
Quitting is more like what some of Lomachenko's opponents did (Walters, Rigondeux) as they literaly said no mas. They did not suffer bad injuries from the fight and those weren't physical beatdowns.
The fight beaten out of someone or had enough is exactly what happened here in the Gvozdyk vs Beterbiev fight. This can happen to any fighter, no matter how much heart they have.

This is a common misnomer about the Ali/Frazier fight in Manila. Ali' story is told by Thomas Hauser: that he could have quit at that time, that he felt like it but he never did because he never would. It is the same as Leonard speaking of his fight with Hagler, how he felt like quitting after round 9 but never did, because he never would. This whole Ali analogy has been blown into something it is not and Max really should stop using it.
To end, I will counter with Dundee's own words, the main man in Ali's corner, he was not going to quit, he never said he would, he never mentioned it. No one from Ali's corner has ever backed up Hausers words.

Maybe he was worried he could suffer the same fate he himself inflicted on Stevenson two fights previous. I’m glad gvodzyk is ok he’s a great fighter he just lacked stamina durability or maybe he didn’t lack these things but beterbiev punched them out of him well never know great fight really enjoyed and was worth the 12 quid I paid to watch it.

All fighters deserve the benefit of the doubt always. Victor Ortiz, I remember him saying after a fight basically I don’t like getting hit in the face like this, so what, but he was criticized heavily. Pennington vs Nunes in the UFC Pennington was criticized heavily when she didn’t want to continue the fight. Where is the line between tough|weak?? Guess what there is no line every fighter is different and deserves us, the spectators our utmost respect.

I think he could have knocked out Canelo: he decided not to do it. Boxing is the art of hit without getting hit. That said Hagler is the greatest to me: when you got hit you need the chin. When Hagler got old he started to rely too much on the chin. And this shorten careers: worst thing in boxing. The fans have to understand it.

He didn't quit, he got beat up.
And the Ref made the right decision to stop the bout.
You were wrong to say he quit and it is that type of talk that causes boxing tragedies to happen.

Pretty sure the ref called it off after he got put down for the third time.
Think you need to watch it again.

BL4CK KN1G8T he stayed down cuz he’d had enough, and the ref had to come to his rescue. I’d advice you rewatch.
