  • Cities are getting hotter and hotter each and every year. Heatwaves are more common than ever, and citizens are struggling to cope with the excessive heat. Many of them find refuge in the humble air conditioner, but urban planning and architecture solutions could help mitigate the heat, as well.
In this video, we'll explore the methods of how urban planning and architecture could make heatwaves more bearable.

I believe Winnipeg is even better comparison than Vancouver, as it also sits above that 50 lat. line. The climate there is way more continental though, they dont have gulf stream and no mountains in the north so the result is a bit chillier in winter.... just my note.
I think you might be interested in taking a look at The Eastgate Centre in Harare, Zimbabwe as that is a quite newly built building where the architect had to face difficult conditions. They couldnt afford to actively AC the whole building (its huge) so he came up with design based on a termite mound basically. There is a nice video explaining the air flow and how he managed to cool the inside without just slamming AC units in every corner. Your examples of some of the arabic house designs reminded me of that.
Also Vitruvius in his books of architecture talks a lot about the right city layout/direction of streets, etc. Might be an interesting topic.
    Keep up the good work.

Btw, I would love to see a video that dives specificely into the Czech high speed rail that is being planned and built. There are some info that the trains will be uisng the TGV concept (by Alstom) and I saw this great presentation about the whole project, even though its 2 years old. It gives a nice insight.
