thank you for calling out the greenwashing on this! it is one of my biggest pet peeves of clothing companies, and really appreciate the time you spent on this!
Do we not think she is green washing herself by giving so much money to these dodgy companies? She could easily call out these companies without buying from them. She's essentially promoting them...
Claiming to be sustainable and then shipping in 5 separate plastic bags... and also putting each item into individual plastic bags.. ugh! I love your focus on sustainability and calling out greenwashing :)
Or using mixed fabrics, petroleum based fabrics…
(BTW if Mia if you’re potentially reading this or anyone who doesn’t to know all the main problems with recycled [petroleum-based] fabrics)
They STILL aren’t easily recyclable when turned into clothing compared to a larger item like a plastic bottle etc. as you can’t just take it to your municipal recycling bin
They STILL aren’t recyclable if they are darker colours as they can’t be dyed or have the colour stripped (it’s the same with regular plastics)
Lastly, they STILL still shed the same amount of microplastic fibres into the water supply when washed
Recycled Petroleum Based Products are only to stop NEW resources from used. It is still better than virgin materials and petroleum but, especially ‘wardrobe basics’ should not need to contain petroleum products especially at the higher price points.
So, anyone reading this should just know what Recycled Petroleum Products do and what they still fall short on.
(BTW Mia if you’re reading this, take note just in case your amazing clothes don’t have those downsides before they’re released ❤️)

Mia, I just want to say thank you for caring about size ranges in clothing. As someone who's been plus size for basically my entire life, it's nice to be able to watch a straight sized CZcamsr discuss clothing brands in a well-researched, nuanced way without then having to spend 20 minutes on a website figuring out if they have a plus size section. You're truly a gem.
So true! Will also add for anyone curious, there is not a sinlg eplus size model for any of the photos, so it's impossibel to tell what the clothes look like on a bigger body
I buy my clothes from a small business in the UK called Be You Lifestyle Boutique. Their clothes are great, Italian made and fit a range of sizes. They use their staff as models and they give the measurements of their clothing in the description. If you buy their shoes you have to subtract 2 from your North American shoe size. I have gotten some great deals on shoes and boots from them too

Video concept: I ABSOLUTELY love thrifting but can’t always go because I have two kids and work a full time job. Every piece in my closet is thrifted, I never knew about ThredUP until you talked about them. I am obsessed. I have already sold to them and bought from them. I was thinking the other day, I would love to see you do a full video on maybe different categories of clothing and with a price cap and do a full 8 days worth of outfits all thrifted from ThredUP. Neither Mia nor her followers have claimed that they will never ever buy clothes that are not 100% ethical and sustainable, sometimes the budget does not allow it, other times you simply like something and want that item. These videos are a response to the request of the followers, who want to know more about these brands, maybe some will decide not to buy anymore from that brand, others may see the tried-on pieces and decide that it is still worth buying (I have fast-fashion clothes, like H&M, 15 years old and I still wear them, they look flawless if you know how to choose classic cuts, good materials and take care of them, not all these clothes are of bad quality). As she said at the beginning, sustainable means something different for everyone, some are extremely strict and don't buy anything that doesn't meet their 100 rules, others are more flexible, others are just starting to make a change in their life and they want to know more about the things that they should pay attention to when choosing a brand.

Honestly, I never felt so welcome in a community on a channel as well as with the filmer, even if I'm silent. An aura of calm, warm sunshine jut washes over me, and life feels like home , just wanted to say this as I've felt this way consistenly for years, it's pretty special what you brig to the platform ❤
Random tidbit I learned in my textiles class, Linen is actually a fabric weave and not a fabric material. It's a loose weave that can be made from cotton, silk, flax, ramie and a lot of other materials or blends. Most clothing companies will just put the actual material composition but a lot of higher end brands note the weave as well and write like cotton linen or flax linen etc. Other weaves like that are like twill or crepe, like they can be made from a lot of different materials and sometimes their weaves are only noted in the marketing and not on the tag.
That's so cool! I've learned something interesting today. 🤓 Looking into it, our word linen derives from the Latin name of a flax plant linum and is also related to other English words including "line" like a straight line (so maybe linen fibers were like early rulers lol). Since linen/flax fibers are stiffer and don't have as much stretch as some other textiles, it makes sense to me that a weave style that's straight up and down in both directions (warp and weft) would come to be labeled after that fiber.
My brain is like, no, you're wrong, but honestly, it makes sense.
lol right? and originally all linen was made of flax, not even cotton! I think anything labeled as french linen still is. We have linen samples in our text books and the flax one is so scratchy lol.

The official definition of trolling is: "Trolling is when someone post or comments online to deliberately upset others.". Which in no way applies to my comment. But the answers I've gotten to my question could be classified like that. "Use your brain!", basically calling me stupid. "You are a troll." False accusation. She could have just reviewed the ethics and sustainability and then instead find the same clothes from a thrift store or sustainable brand, as she has done before.

I have yet to see a Chinese clothing brand that’s even remotely sustainable. They target the western/European audience and have to lie about being sustainable and ethical because consumers expect it.
