- SSOs track record of starting and then cancelling stuff out of the blue is nothing new. But waiting six months to let us know about a cancelled project, that's a little crazy. Is there more going on?

The candle is a backhanded insult to the players. Like "Watch, these players will buy anything we put out there. Even a gross, smelly horse poop and armpit candle. They'll keep buying the horses and clothes and tack, no problem."
No, no we're not gonna just buy whatever they throw at us. But they are so desperate and delusional they will try anything.

As if parents are gona buy does candles for there kids. Yhea as if a candle is the first thing a 12 year old wants for there bday. And the safety. Come on I’m not gona let a 12 year old alone in a room with a candle on. Because let’s be fair as a teen we love fire and like to see how far we can go with out burning the house down. Very responsible.
To be honest I've got somewhat grossed by the ideas for these candles... I understand they want something horse related by the smells ideas literally maked me drop my stuff in the middle of a mall 😫

Honestly I have been hurting ever since Hidden Entertainment vanished. When I was a 7 year old in 2005 and got the first Starshine Legacy game in a package from the book club my mom had me subscribed to, I looked at the back of the cartridge and thought to myself "Wow that game looks dumb" and then I ended up being absolutely captured by how different, thrilling and mysterious that game was from all the other horse games I had played.
The games were slightly scary sometimes but that's exactly what made them so good and exciting to play. Every time I got past the scary chase sequences I was so proud of myself and generally speaking, kids aren't as sensitive to "scary" media as one might think.
With SSO, right in the beginning, it'll tell you "mark the GED gear", "write down the GED machinery" "but DON'T GET CAUGHT" meanwhile you'll be able to do it literally in front of the workers faces and nothing will happen. There is no threat. There is no risk - there is no fun. As excited and utterly thrilled as I was back in 2011 to find out that Star Stable would continue as an Online game - I was skeptical at first because the single player Star Stable games were weird in a way in which…Mr. Sands was your tutor all of a sudden and nothing was connected to the SSL story anymore? But then I was pleasantly surprised that it seemed to pick up on the OG SSL story again.
As to the old Soul Rider and Soul Horse designs,
Starshine was anxious, he was weak, about to be put to sleep, but with his friend Lisa he was able to come back to strength. Lisa was frustrated about moving to Jorvik at first.
She was more of a punk, which I was already starting to develop interest in. She was very scared of getting back into horseback riding, which I very much related to at the time.
Turning Alex into a slob and a lesbian because she was a tomboy leaves…a bad taste in my mouth honestly. Like they’re talking about being tolerant and all that and then hit the nail on the head with the stereotyping.
Anne was pretty arrogant and I never liked her because of that, but I am still pretty upset they removed her snobby attitude because having her be “perfect” feels shallow and underlines the fact that the Soul Riders are this irrefutable “sisterhood”.
Linda...I don’t have much to say about her visual design change but I liked her previous clothing style more and also I thought the pony tail suited her better.
What happened with Jessica 😭 Seriously what's with the ethnicity changing, it feels so weird. At least give my girl her killer goth suit and pony tail back.
The candles are ridiculous. I feel sorry for the SSO Community managers. They have to take all the slack and it’s not even their fault.
Hidden Entertainment didn't vanish, they merged into Star Stable Entertainment as the company and rights were bought out. All these people were fired from 2017 to recently.
Couldn’t agree more with everything you said here. As someone who’s also grown up with the old SSL games and additional lore (comics etc.), it’s just painful to watch this game evolve nowadays. I think SSO is a Perfect example that “new” doesn’t always equal “better”. But then again, they’ve been in denial about all of their problems since at least 2017..
This is literally making me fume. When i found out about it, i just could not believe this actually happened. Its like they are desperately trying to delete everything that SSO once was, the story, the style, the music. Even soul riders arent the same anymore, especially Lisa. They praise women creators, artists and writers, yet they fire, and hush hush at that!!!, one of the most loved creators, other than Nomi, that make sso what sso is...
I'll say it again, i applaud you for doing what you do, because for me, who has played since 2014... i give up, i have no strength anymore. Im yelling in a void at this point. I fully support those, who are still fighting for it, you are doing the work i wish i could still do myself
I hate the fact that so many players feel like this. No one should feel like this about a game they love. I'm happy my videos mean something to you! I just wish SSO will do better! They've been trying, but so many missteps have been taken, it feels like we just keep going backwards! Let's hope they get it right, soon! ♥

I've also given up. This game is not gonna live for much longer no matter what the white knights say. I stopped caring when they released the candle.

As someone with experience in PR and marketing, I agree that the marketing is so strange. To me, it seems like there's a lack of communication between the developers and the marketing team, and I suspect there's also a lack of quality market research. Market research can be expensive, but without it the marketing team will basically be fumbling in the dark.
Either they're making room for a big push to refocus and turn things around, or it's 'Tank the company Speedrun- any %'.

I feel so bad for these people, I personally adored the books and comics and their art and writing was so amazing. The fact the SSO hid this from us for 6 MONTHS is appalling and makes me wonder what else they could be hiding. I've been playing the game for three years as a star rider and I'm finally seeing the light, this game just isn't worth my interest anymore. Thank you Rattle for your videos (I think I've watched them all now) because they really did help me see the light. You deserve such amazing things, you're making this community's voice heard, so thank you. (Sorry if I've commented twice, I don't think it worked the first time haha)
Part of me really wants them to fail now. It’s time for bigger and better things that they are just jumping on too little too late when they’ve already lost the trust of their player base. They are like the rockstar of the horse game world 😂

this is the first time im hearing of elli and helena being fired ☹️ that's so upsetting dude. as much as i'm not really a fan of the new story you can tell they at least cared for it and put their best into their respective art. i really hope their careers take of in whatever direction they go next, they deserved so much better. the fact this was swept under the rug and that most people haven't heard of it is very distasteful, people loved their works :/
I wonder if they keep hiring new marketing teams and that's partially why they seem all over the place. It also comes across as they wanted to expand their brand by dipping into books, music, shows, etc. but they tried to do too many things at once and they didn't have the funding or the workforce to do it. So they pulled artists away from the game in order to fill gaps in other teams like the animated series and that's why the updates were so lackluster in those years. This is all theoretical of course but I'd really like to get inside the minds of the SSE execs and know what exactly the strategy was.
I'm honestly not shocked that Star stable is tightening their belts and running out of money when you look at how the offices/studio are set up. The life-sized statues, the tack on the wall, all the extra shit they never needed to just develop their game. I have to look at their workforce and it reminds me of Twitter before the mass firing. This is not adult babysitting or a place to hangout, this is a job. Hardly anything of substance has been accomplished there because the funds arent being utilized properly. Spending 10's of thousands of dollars making the employees feel like theyre in a Star Stable amusement park, but the game itself is falling apart.
Exactly. We spend money on this game, expecting for them to actually develop it but instead they're just buying useless sh*t to make work for the employees more fun. And just *now* that other amazing horse games are being released they pay more attention to their players who have supported them for years .-. They got away with exploiting the players for long enough.
My standards for games and companies are so low at this point whenever I play a game who's devs are generous and actually listen to the players I go like :o

The tack doesn't really bother me. It's not like they have 3000 euros saddles on the wall there. I once sold a saddle for 50 euros. Another one for 500. Second hand tack (and this isn't new tack, I can tell you) isn't that expensive tbh. Also, I believe they use those as an example when they create new tack in game. I can only applaud that.
The rest I do agree with though.
On the generation 4 thing, I think that what they're aiming for is making a horse creation system we've all been asking for but in the style of the newest gen 3 models. We'll likely be actually able to pick our coats, markings, mane and eye colors! But it will look the same as gen 3 just with more option and creativity. I'm excited for it and so I'm gonna buy mustangs when they come out and the like anyways because I really want mustangs.
the least they could do is replace our gen 3 with gen 4 because i do not have the patience to train 50 horses from scratch again
bruh the 4th generation horse thing was the last drop for me. no way i’ll re-buy and re-train all of my horses, i’ve played this game for 11 years i’m not too keen on starting over again and again.
It's extremely disappointing to see the road that sso is heading down on, as a player who has been playing since around 2012-2013 it's SAD to see how they are choosing to ignore their players. Like yes they do SOMETIMES listen but it's just not enough, players won't buy candles but they would buy keychains, stickers, etc but they chose to focus their time and money on something that not everyone is going to take interest in. Maybe there might be some people who will buy it but what is the point of going through all this time and energy making a candle.....don't get me wrong they can make candles but what about the game that is their large source of revenue?
It just seems that sso is predicting their own downfall at this point and it's sad to see, I get why they release so many horses than they did years ago and it's to keep the company from not crumbling but when they are focusing on random useless crap it just seems like it's inevitable that this game will keep going downhill.

While yes I agree, not many people are willing to buy a candle that smells like horse armpit? Like I totally understand selling candles with smells from areas in the game but come on, I wouldn’t want my house/room to smell like horses. I understand some people might not everyone wants to.
But then again they could have had more opportunities making keychains or plushies or something rather than a candle yanno?
Oh, dear. With all these videos, I start feeling more and more dread for the path of SSO.
I want them to get better and DO better (and to be fair, they are trying to an extend), I love the events, and even though they release many, I still get excited when they show a new horse getting made or updated. (Or when I come across a spoiler for one) Even if it is a hit or miss with gaits and style.
For the love of everything, I hope someone in the company will open their eyes and be able to shake some sense into their managment, because I don't want to lose this game just yet.
We've already lost it. It's time to move on. It's sad and hurts, but there are better things out there.
Tbh I think it’s because it isn’t bringing in the big bucks like SSO. Sorta how Rockstar left RDO and continue to update GTA. They’re making more money from one game and aren’t making as much with the other sources of income. So instead of continuing something that brings back less, they focus on something that brings in more. Regardless of what their base wants.
I’ve come to realize SSO is I’ll only ever do the bare minimum to keep us satisfied because people are still buying star coins, they’ve got the formula and they don’t intend for it to change. We can scream all we want while they line their pockets.
I've been saying this for so long and 100% agree - SSO has absolutely no reason to change anything they're doing because players are still buying star coins regularly. You can't be mad or frustrated about the state of the game and keep handing them your wallet every time a double star coin weekend rolls around.

I honestly wish they hadn't changed the characters, the story and the world so much. The lore is fucked, the characters are fucked, the rules of world are fucked. There is ZERO direction to this IP. There are too many people within SSE who feel their version of the story or characters is superior to the originals. That is a PROBLEM. It means the pride of the individual making these changes is more important than the pride in the product that they're giving us. SSE has too many cooks in the kitchen that do not know the original recipes. I want the ORIGINAL lore and characters and Jorvik from Starshine Legacy. SSL had direction, a clear story and well defined characters. It had potential to grow into something greater than it is now, given the right people were given the reins and weren't full of themselves. Instead, it's been put in the hands of those who just want to turn a profit; they do not care about lore continuity, character growth or developing an immersive world. I do not see Lisa, Linda, Anne nor Alex as they are currently; they are nothing more than shells of their former selves, whittled down to stereotypes. SSO is a MOCKERY of SSL and it will continue to be until the servers shut down.
Maybe im just a hardcore originals fan, but it just irks me when the history changes without any proper explanation. It comes off as lazy and disorganized, like throwing pasta at the wall to see what sticks.
I FEEL this... I was a huge fan of SSL when I was a young kid. While I never minded the characters getting visual updates, it's the way they just completely changed everything about them that hurts. I always loved Lisa's punk rock style and I wish they'd just kept that part of her in her new design instead of reinventing her as a cowgirl.
God you just hit the nail on the head, I agree with every word and you have articulated why SSL is miles above SSO perfectly despite being an old game with old assets that was created on a fraction of the budget that SSO has. Thank you for writing this comment.
@@surfinaway15 I specialize in character design, so that's likely why the abrupt design changes rubbed me the wrong way so much. I loved, LOVED their og designs and its very obvious that passion was put into them. I'm currently working on versions where they're just aged up and subtly more mature.. not gone through identity crisis. Fundamental parts like eye and skin color, personality traits and backstory, it is difficult to change those parts without proper explanation. Why did Alex's and Lisa's eye colors change? Why did Jessica's (or Jay, lol) skin go from white to black and her entire get up changed? Why is Linda chunkier and less focused on learning about Jorvik and more on fantasy worlds like Canter Ella? Why did Lisa do a 180 genre change into country and get an entirely different looking father. Yes, even Carl, her dad is entirely different now. We get no explanation (besides Jessica's name change, also dumb) and we're simply expected to shut up and deal with it. I can't deal with it and thats why Im making my own og aged up designs.
Hit the nail on the head. SSL were amazing. SSO lore and story WAS amazing: now it’s a confused shambles that doesn’t make sense to the OG players.

At this point it’s almost too late for them to take a turn.. They’ve messed up sooo many times now, and continue to disappoint their fan base. As much as i once loved this game, I’m slowly hoping to see their downfall, just so they know how badly they messed up and can’t ever get back what they had. As someone who loves books and especially comics, this was really a huge let down.
I remember that they also had a phone game called "Star Stable Rush" or something like that but they never released it

I love your videos so much. I've been playing SSO for about 5 years, and witnessing the downfall of this game that I once called my favorite or the best game I've ever played, has been heartbreaking. I never understood why the game was falling apart until you uncovered the truth and revealed secrets.

Wait 😭 I really enjoyed Wildsong, I’m so sad they decided to drop it, especially because the storyline seemed to good! What is going on, are they running out of money? They basically dropped ALL of their side stuff ): all side games, the books, comics and even the show..
I loved the comics! I always looked forward for another one and knowing that this happened a long time ago just hurts the soul. I have had my ups and downs with SSO but this. This is the worst they have done. So disappointed!

Literally what I've been say since this dumpfire started; I would literally not care if they shut down the game for three months just to effing fix everything!!! Yeah prolly realistically they wouldn't be able to shut down for a few months because of money. But damn. I don't even play the game anymore and it's only getting WORSE.
For the horses it's what I started to do. For the moment I'm with the belgian ( the most realistic sport horse for me) and I'll wait for a new gen to find a new one. SCs are either saved, either used to make a good wardrobe.

Honestly it’s sad and frustrating how many projects Star Stable cancelled on a whim! Also, I wish when I knew what Project Curie was actually up to before it got cancelled or at least told us after. Still can’t believe they let go of books but green lit their weird weird candles that nobody asked for. For older generation horses I’m just buying them because their cheap compared to other horses in SSO and for Collectibility ( I like to collect things ). When it comes to them announcing gen 4 horses that’s kinda frustrating for me knowing not even all the gen 2 breeds aren’t updated to gen 3 yet ( at least I don’t think all have been updated yet ) not to mention I DON’T want to know the cost of gen 4 are going to be

I love the game very much but sso terrible communication with us epspeicly negative things. And they make promises they don't keep most of time or not as great as they make be. I loved loved their books so much 📚 .always edge if my seat,enjoy them deeply, I always wanted more of them. Now I wont be getting them its sad, I hope they do reconsider, I hope our voices can be loud enough like in past be heard, because of us make changes for better. I just feel like they're taking misstep after misstep... I can't believe they're this delusional. They kill off everything that has actual sentimental value therefore making the game feel soulless and empty. They wiped away everything that once gave a reason to players who enjoyed star stable for what it was to keep coming back with hope. No more books, no more comics that made the game feel alive after they took away the original story. Middle fingers all across the board for more mature and story driven players.
Idk man. As a kid I always thought "oh I'm going to play star stable until I get old. I want to know how the story ends."
Who would've thought things could slip away from us at such speed. I mean I suppose I wasn't wrong when I thought the story would end with me getting all wrinkly and old but because of how little we get a year and.. it's not even the story I'd want to hear the end of anymore. Disappointing.

SSO is my comfort game, as I'm sure it is for many others. It's really the only game I've been regularly playing for years, I don't know what I'll do if it keeps getting worse. I am really hoping that SSO gets itself together and rises back up from this horrible downfall.
I'd get it if they had to "freeze" the employment of the ones writng lore for lack of budget, if they planned to hire some more programmers to fix bugs and such. But trading lore of candes is completely absurd. It's like they don't want to succeed. All they have to do is listen to the fans and act accordingly. Simple concept, one would think.

The game is an absolute *mess* (has been for years but oh well .-.) and what do they do? Bring out a HORSE SCENTED CANDLE. Like seriously, wtf?

What does this have to do with their GAME. When I saw the post I was just confused and thought my mind was playing tricks because of lack of sleep or something. Who would spend money on this?
Please make a video on the horse. Progression update. The bugs are off the charts. They are some of the worst bugs I have seen in years. Horses are getting teleported across the map. People who call for their horses are not able to get their horses. And then when they dismount off the horse, they disappear underneath the map. All the horses in the home stable go missing. They Follow the player in endless circles even if the player isn’t moving. Random sparkly noise is constantly flooding the game. And people expect this company to be able to remodel the character. I don’t believe it.
The half hearted attempt to ‘reconnect’ with the players with the new mustang colours was really hurt me. Maybe if they asked what we wanted in future updates, what bugs were destroying the game, and just generally actually facing their audience instead of hiding behind fake smiles used to grab small children and their parents wallets. They need to know their players are smart and will know when they avoid or mislead. Anyway, I hope they look at their broken game and understand that if my game is panicking when I run through steves, they need to rethink the games future.
Them canceling the books and comics makes sense as to why we've never gotten any other language translations for the second trilogy I'm bilingual and I bought the first trilogy of books in both English and German why? Sometimes some things do get lost in translation and I like to see if I'm reading the exact same story because sometimes an English book and German book of the same tittle can be different its less of an issue now but older books you could read the same words but the tone or theme could be much different I found it quite fascinating. I really liked the first 3 sso books in both languages and I'm MAD sso has never given us any new translations!. and whats annoying is if I go on there website I see they have the book covers in English but not the story! I would pay for a fan translation

ONe can only buy so many horses when the players aren't .. on. Another example of their players dropping is WoW.... they are drawing out their content to a patch a week now because fewer and fewer players are sticking around online playing and they are trying to focus on PLAYER RETENTION - how LONG can you keep players playing in the game, playing the content. It's why I think SSO are giving snippets of races here and there, one or two quests that may lead to more in the future.. but it doesn't keep players PLAYING and being ON. This brings me now to the other factor of why they are changing up their entire PLAYING style, and UI. Passive exp for BEING ON AND PLAYING means more players are online, in the game, to make it seem like the game is still doing well. it's a metrics thing.. for the corporations to look at in the long run to see how well a game still plays before they invest more into it.

12:45 the marketing department should focus on making the game better not making all those weird collabs... They cannot put their money where it's needed and i despise them for it. There are game makers all over the world and they CAN make their games better because they want more people to play it and give them MONEY. If sso wants money they should earn it by MAKING IT BETTER!!!

I could be wrong about this, but I think the reason they can't fix all of the bugs is because the community is still divided on what it wants. Some people probably wouldn't mind if one or two of the weekly updates were just various bug fixes, but others would complain. If they were do fix these bugs, that would be the way to do it. Instead of pushing out a heavy update, then trying to scramble-fix the bugs before you start working on the next update. A week just doesn't seem like enough to make a brand-new update and fix the current bugs. That being said, people get pissy when SSO recycles an old update, so they can't seem to win. I mean, that's probably why they're doing the Guillermo races so often. It's much easier to churn out a new race that will keep players occupied for a bit, then spend the rest of your time fixing bugs. But every time I see a an old update, I hear people complaining about how it isn't enough. I completely agree that their marketing team is making...interesting choices, but I think the bugs is just something that we as a community need to come together on. If we join forces and tell them that what we want is a few large bug fixes, they might listen.

I think gen 4 should just be scrapped, no need to remake horses that look good. That said I do think some older gen 3s like the curly, marwari etc could use an update, my idea is that they make a new model like the newer ones and let it be TOGGLEABLE, that way you wouldn't need to re-buy a horse. I have a heidrun and I love her to bits but I don't ride her because she can't wear anything and the animations gotta go. So if they updated the older gen 3 models and made them in the current style and just have a toggle for it, like magic coats, I think it could be a good call and no need for gen 4, of course this is far fetched and I fully know that but I wish that it's what they would do

Does anyone remember the shop SSO had years ago you could get hats, tops and jackets (if you were a skinny bi*ch) even notebooks and pens, and charm bracelets and you got to pick a horse head, a riding boot, a Rosette and I can't remember the others,
That did not last long, lol I got one of the charm bracelets when I got my lifetime years ago with 10,000 sc, it was all in a deal for £70, Now SSO does not even do the 10,000sc deal for a Lifetime anymore, just 1200sc
It probably is because of the New and better horse game coming out that SSO is starting somewhat fixed things,
No going to lie I HATED it when they put JoJo in the game, I was like she got nothing to do with horses, why not bring in someone that is a horse rider or horse like H&M All In (I think that's how his name goes) that was so much more better than some singer,
I did not even know SSO had books and stuff, I know about the show (never watched it not my thing) but that is shocking how they just kick them and act like it's all fine.
Looking back on things does anyone else feel like things have changed since that Matilda I liked her.
This is starting to make me think of Bethesda’s final fall from grace with Fallout 76. (For anyone who doesn’t know about that, Internet Historian has a great video.) And the sad thing is SSO isn’t even as big of a company, yet they’re still just as detached. One can only hope they’re kicking these projects because they realized the effort needs to go to fixing the game, but I doubt it.

okey if sso is saying 'soon' it will not be there in 5 months . in januari they said i would get my sadle an bride soon, i had to email them 3x and send them over 10 DM's on insta (they did ask for a DM with details) and than i got the same answer as in januari....
