  • Also Cutting Open Old Filter After 147000 Miles.
    The fuel filter was getting on a bit, it is the original one from new.
    In this video I show how to replace the filter in a step by step guide, then I cut open both a new filter and a old one to compare the elements, as Bmw state the diesel fuel filter is a lifetime filter, although how long is a "lifetime", with some really interesting results.
    Most Bmw models use one of two filters, including 1Series, 2 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series and 7 Series.
    This car is a 318 d and is identical to the 320 d.
    Thanks for watching.

    Did my F10 520d a year ago... fortunately was supplied with correct filter lol didn’t know they are supposedly a “life” filter though?! Shocking difference in quality though, but that first (wrong) filter was a “budget” Frame one!

    Ant, there are numerous vids on YT about FRAM filters being of poor quality. I now always pay a couple of pound extra and insist on Bosch filters from Euro Car Parts whenever I service our cars. :)

    • @aaanton11
      @aaanton11  Před 4 lety

      There was a big difference in the quality of the two filters, I think Bmw original fuel filters are made by Mahle, I would like to cut open a Bosch to see if it lives up to the brand, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

    Hi pal. What year is your car? Mine is a 2011 318d e91 and I'm not sure if my fuel filter will be the the same as the one that came from your car, the one with the male end or the wrong filter you bought with the female end? Thank you

    I don't think you should be cranking that without diesel in the hpfp, it can cause damage as the diesel lubricates it. You should be priming the low pressure pump with Ediabas software available free online. Don't get me wrong I have done the same when I didn't know any better but its not the proper way.

    • @aaanton11
      @aaanton11  Před 4 lety +1

      The system primes on ignition, so the high pressure fuel pump wont run dry, the air generally gets stuck post pump, Thanks for the great information👍🏻👍🏻🛠

    • @d6893
      @d6893 Před rokem

      If you do it via ediabas it will force the low pressure delivery pump (the one in the fuel tank) to run for like 30 seconds without the engine turning, then the computer would tell you to start the engine and the software will make it run at a high idle (2000 rpm iirc) for about another minute. That surely works better in evacuating the air bubbles than just cycling the ignition which makes the fuel delivery pump run for say about only two seconds every time…
